Perhaps he has an annual card and wants to get his moneys worth, I saw Peter Rabbit by myself. Maybe he’s a film buff or he’s bored and wanted to get out or he just get like seeing it

SapporoBaby · 02/06/2025 17:21

God forbid a man wants to watch a recreation of a Disney classic - that could have been one of his or his kid’s childhood favourite - on an afternoon.

He’s at the cinema minding his own business not wanking behind the bushes. Are you always so judgemental and holier than thou?

The sex offenders that I can think of, that might have visited the cinema to watch lilo and stitch, would have been going to take advantage of the dark environment where they could busy themselves while watching the movie and kids enjoying it.

I'm aware most men aren't like this. But I've never met an adult man who I am aware of that has been to watch kids movies by himself for any reason other than an inappropriate one.

As I said though, my work history has skewed my opinion and so has my lack of friendships with men who would enjoy these things.

Edited

NameChangerPopstar same here

even if it is in their conditions to not visit places where young children will be (playground etc) they still do

normanprice62 · 02/06/2025 17:22

I'm 37 and I saw it on my own and thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn't care a less what anyone thinks. It's bizarre you would remotely care.

I don't think the cinema is weird, a lot of people have a subscription so will watch any film. I do find lone men in swimming baths creepy though, especially on packed Saturday afternoons in the area where loads of kids are, just standing at the edge in the water watching what's going 😐

Gettingbysomehow · 02/06/2025 17:22

Smoulderdash · 02/06/2025 14:19

@Littlebluecreature would you think it was weird if he was female?

I’m asking because I’m trying to pluck up the courage to go to the cinema solo (unsure which film..) following the recent breakdown of my marriage. Maybe I’ll be judged though?!

What are you going to watch? Little kiddies film? If so yes I do think it's a bit weird. If I really wanted to watch something like that I'd wait until it was out online. Not weird if it's an adult movie or Marvel or something.

CompleteOvaryAction · 02/06/2025 17:24

Yes, everyone knows that an adult man doing anything alone in public must be a paedophile.
Same as a woman on her own in a pub - definitely selling it (or asking for it).
🙄

But again, surely if that was even the case, they'd pick a better time than 2pm on a school day? As OP said, hardly anyone was there.

SapporoBaby · 02/06/2025 17:26

@Gettingbysomehowhow is it a little kiddies film? It’s Disney… and the original came out when people in their 30s were children. There are lots of adult fans of this specific film.

It’s not a ‘little kiddies’ film 🙄

It might shock you to know that Disney and other animated movie makers spend a lot of time to make the movie enjoyable on several levels. There are jokes for kids and there are jokes that resonate more with adults.

If only kids should see the movie, you shouldn’t be in the cinema either. Wait til it comes on DVD and watch it with your ‘little kiddy’ on the sofa.

Sounds like an ideal time for what they may be after

JillMW · 02/06/2025 17:27

My husband once took my daughter and her friend. He dropped off to sleep. They took the opportunity to nip out and play in the foyer ( I know!! Yes they had asked to go!). He woke up when the lights came on to find all the seats around him empty whilst the rest of the cinema was full. I can imagine all the mums and nanas shuffling along the seats to move away from him 😂

What may they 'be after'? That makes no sense.

Yeah maybe. If it’s a film they’re bloody obsessed with (like the one on this thread) that I didn’t get to watch with them (cos they watched it with their dad) and I want to be able to actually have some idea of what it was like and can join in all their chitter chatter about it.. It’s sad I’d be judged for something like that.

How? Only 2 families in total so barely any kids there and obviously stands out more because it is so quiet.

As opposed to last week when it was half term, likely full of kids and he wouldn't have stood out so easily.

Isobel201 · 02/06/2025 17:30

if I'm honest, I'm not bothered about seeing this one because its just a live action remake, but yabu anybody of any age can still be interested in disney and its films.

I do not think the time matters

its that children are there and they are not being watched by those trying to monitor them

Feathers72829292 · 02/06/2025 17:31

I have an odeon unlimited pass and when I’ve taken annual leave with not much to do I often resort to watching whatever’s on at the cinema as opposed to sitting in all day. My pass also costs £19.99 a month and a single ticket is about £18.50 so if there’s not more than one film I actually want to see in any month I’ll watch anything so I’ve got my moneys worth.

SabrinaSt · 02/06/2025 17:31

My BIL (in his 30s) works in the film industry (specifically for a Disney adjacent company) and goes to premieres/screenings etc for work but never really gets to watch the film at them - he still needs to see the films shortly after release so his work pays for an Odeon Limitless subscription and he’s often at kids films on his own (when he can’t borrow mine to take with him!).

Littlebluecreature · 02/06/2025 14:14

Ok wasn’t trying to be awful at all, wasn’t judging him, feel bad now.
I love going to the cinema on my own, it was just the kids thing, that’s all

You were judging him though, weren’t you? With the laughing emoji and saying it was odd.

You have no idea what other people’s experiences are, so just focus on your own family.

Really? Do you know men that would enjoy going to watch a kids movie?

I don't know any adult men that I can think of who would enjoy going to watch a kids movie at the cinema on their own.

I have however, met several child sex offenders of the years who have enjoyed such things, as well as sitting in playparks by themself and going to places like trampoline parks on their own.

It is possibly just my social circle and my work history that has formed my opinion! But I'm surprised at how many posters seem to think that adult men going to watch kids movies is normal and they have friends that do it :)

There are loads and loads of things that are aimed at kids, but which adults enjoy as well.

Colouring books for adults are a huge market now. Yes, they have more intricate designs, but it's still an activity that is primarily aimed at young children developing their hand-eye co-ordination and keeping them occupied. You could probably say the same about wordsearch puzzles as well.

Bouncy castles for hen/stag dos - or other all-adult parties - are popular too.

Lego for adults is massive, as is Disney and Harry Potter. What about things like the unparalleled fantastic Wallace & Gromit - am I somehow wrong or suspicious as a nearly 50yo adult to love it, just because it's also extremely popular with children of all ages?

I think we need to accept that, just because an activity is primarily aimed at a child audience or user-base, it doesn't mean that a lot of adults won't also enjoy it - and the vast majority of them will not be perverts.

😂

Caramilky · 02/06/2025 17:33

When I was going to book peppa pig in the cinema for my kids there was loads of seats booked as one single person, I assume an adult as can’t see a teen going to watch it, thought it was odd but none of my business lilo and stitch seems less odd than peppa pig though
