Why has the 'funny' reaction gone???

MyLimeGuide · 02/06/2025 10:44

I always react 'funny' to funny comments, as there are a lot of comedians on this site, why has this been removed? Any ideas? Are we happy about this?
Question, should the 'funny' reaction come back? Or AIBU To want light humour?

the laugh emotion
that is good it is gone, it was often used in a nasty way

People were butt hurt when making ludicrous statements that people found them funny. It's been commented on a few times, but tbf plenty of people will also make errors / slip of the screen when using the emojis.

Then those people should have the courage of their convictions and laugh openly. Using an emoji other posters can’t see is just cowardly.

Most of us do. The emojis aren't misused just because you don't like the responses.

If they just made the reactions public that would be far better than removing laughing altogether.

Absolutely. I’ve never understood why they’re hidden from everyone apart from the original poster.

Because it was being used passive aggressively to silently mock posts and inappropriately on sensitive posts. It's not Facebook, we don't need a laugh. We don't need anything apart from agree IMO.

Yeah, I guess some do but as usual the morons have ruined it for everyone else. And I disagree that we don't need a laugh!

I've been crying with laughter at an old thread and it's such a lovely thing, to genuinely share humour. I think it would have been better if the OP, before publishing the first post, had the option to disable the laugh emoji for anyone commenting on their thread so if they're posting about politics or bereavement they could turn it off but if they're having a light-hearted chat about a TV programme, for example, it could be left on.

Edit: spelling

Yes its confusing! Ive been on a thread where a poster kept 'agreeing' with everything i said then wrote me a really mean message?!

Yes!! We must put this idea to HQ 👌

Because some posters felt it would show some MNetters's posts to be more 'popular', and it would make others feel bad if theirs didn't get as many 'likes' and 'thanks' 🙄

It can be quite hard to remember we're talking about grown ups here.

MNHQ must feel like they're dealing with a nursery at times.

rosemarble · 02/06/2025 11:43

Great....so the bullies have spoilt it for the rest of us.

It's like the whole class being given a detention because the teacher can't find the culprit.

This is a great idea.

Could you suggest it on the thread in Site Stuff so MNHQ see it? Flowers

Anyone using a laughing emoji when referring to someone else suffering a bereavement needs to take a good long look at themselves.

Not2identifying · 02/06/2025 11:46

Will do. Am on my way out now but will post on 'site stuff' later. I suspect my suggestion will require more work than simply removing it from the list of options...

EstherGreenwood63 · 02/06/2025 11:48

The mra/incels liked it. Sucks for them. 🤣😂😄😁

Xiaoxiong · 02/06/2025 11:49

I understand why it didn't really work. It's too difficult to distinguish online between "laughing with" and "laughing at", if it's just one emoji. It's much easier in real life.

lnks · 02/06/2025 11:49

Laughing was used on one of my posts when I was talking about the difficulties faced by disabled people and why their benefits shouldn't be reduced.

People were actually laughing at those with a disability.

That’s shocking. I’m glad it’s gone. The people who are upset about it are probably those who misused it.

That's awful of course. And whoever did that is behaving horribly. But also clearly so unpleasant that their reaction should be totally ignored. Anyone who laughs at disabilities is a twat. Do we really need to let their attempts at belittling win and remove something from everyone?

Fargo79 · 02/06/2025 11:54

SpunkySquid · 02/06/2025 10:52

Using a laughing reaction is bullying? Wow some people have such thin skin. How do they cope in the real world?

Some people are sensitive, yes. It's not a choice. People who use "people have such thin skin" to justify or excuse being unpleasant and rude need to understand that it's their behaviour that's the problem.

Butchyrestingface · 02/06/2025 11:56

I've had people react with a mocking 😂 at posts of mine. That's okay. I'm a big girl. I can cope.

I don't understand why reactions are private in the first place. Keep the 😂 reaction and make them all public.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 02/06/2025 11:57

Oh no - I liked the laughing emoji

I'd love it back, along with a thumbs down option

Serpentstooth · 02/06/2025 11:58

Has Bigly's mob invaded Mumsnet? Free speech for everyone as long as I agree with it? I am not amused.

Topsyturvy78 · 02/06/2025 11:59

I don't know I'm sure I used it just this morning.

I think it was removed early this morning, because I’m fairly sure it was there and then gone in the time I took me to respond on two threads.
