Why has the 'funny' reaction gone???

MyLimeGuide · 02/06/2025 10:44

I always react 'funny' to funny comments, as there are a lot of comedians on this site, why has this been removed? Any ideas? Are we happy about this?
Question, should the 'funny' reaction come back? Or AIBU To want light humour?

I wouldn’t mind if none of them were hidden actually; I’m happy to thank, love or agree in public.

I’d prefer it.

I wouldn't. Visible reacts would instantly create popularity contests.

I'm sorry the 😂button's gone, too.

Or the chronically over-sensitive have ruined it for you?

What do you mean by "chronically oversensitive"? Are you talking about people who actually are sensitive and are genuinely upset by being mocked, or are you saying that there are people who aren't actually upset by it but are objecting anyway (what is usually referred to as "pearl clutching")?

Fargo79 · 02/06/2025 12:35

Having visible likes just encourages people to perform for likes. It also discourages people from disagreeing to heavily liked points of view.

This is a really, really good point @OooPourUsACupLove.

I hadn't given it much thought before but yes, I can totally see that visible likes would stifle unique or marginal viewpoints.

That's a disgrace. What about if someone posts something you dont agree with but you still find the wording is funny? I think that's ok?!

That scenario would be hard to communicate effectively in any single reaction but is an ideal situation to say something constructive and bridge-building like "I don't agree with you but that was genuinely funny, thank you for lightening the mood".

That is exactly my intention when I have done that.

In my experience on MN if someone is feral and going out of their way to be nasty the crowd of goodies will conquer!

Sometimes the nasty people believe they are the goodies, especially on the political forums.

If a person has convinced themselves everyone who thinks differently to them is "a Nazi" they certainly aren't going to feel bad about being nasty to them. In fact they probably feel it would be wrong not to!

I think if the reactions were made viewable to everyone it would have been more sensible.

Those that'd use them to target individuals would be less inclined if they knew other would know they'd done it.

I agree with you

Ha ha I know those people!! It's hard to ignore morons sometimes especially when they are so consistent in their moronaties!

The laugh emoji was here for such a short time I’m sure everyone will revert to what they did before without any difficulty.

I don’t agree that making it public would be a popularity contest because you’re either funny or you’re not!

NotSoSlimShadee · 02/06/2025 12:57

I’m pretty sure I used it yesterday when a poster was describing a collective sing along to an explicit song whilst on a terrible holiday. There was no other emoji suitable for that story 😂

If you aren’t ashamed of the way you use it. I can’t see it matters: just post an emoji.

Great....so the bullies have spoilt it for the rest of us.

It's like the whole class being given a detention because the teacher can't find the culprit.

Except MNHQ know exactly who the culprits were!

I still don't blame them forgetting rid of it though to avoid all the reports!
