in wanting to ram my neighbour’s leaf blower where the sun doesn’t shine?

I know I’m tired, menopausal, in chronic pain and I also have an infection from where I had a tooth removed so I’m extra grumpy right now but hear me out.

My across the fence neighbour is using his leaf-blower yet again, yes 8:45pm on a Friday night he has nothing better to do than suck up leaves from his garden. 9am Sunday morning he is at it, one warm sunny day he was either leaf-blowing or pressure washing ALL day. The thing is there’s a small under 2 year old who lives next door to him and another baby across from him why would you do this?

He also whinges about my and the other neighbours trees, mine are cherry blossoms do even though we have trimmed them so none of them are close to his fence sometimes for that one week in May some of the cherry blossom gets in his garden. He also does annoying things like water his garden whilst I have a dry washing out in the evening, wetting my washing. He also has a large dog he locks out the house and the poor thing barks at the patio doors. Oh and then I hear him and his wife screaming at each other all the time. He sounds obnoxious.

But it’s the leaf/blowing that grinds my gears, he needs to get another hobby!

I would ask to borrow it 😀 partly (mostly) because I could use one right now, but then I could keep it for a couple of days and get a break!

MidLifeWoman · 30/05/2025 20:56

Are you my neighbour? Next door is bloody obsessed with his leaf blower! I can understand why people turn to murder…

Ionacat · 30/05/2025 20:57

Think we must have a similar neighbour - he has a large leaf blower which is not only used to blow leaves but dry the cars when he’s washed them as well. It always seems to be just as we’re sitting down to enjoy the garden and last bits of sun and so annoying. We did think as neighbours we might club together to buy him a rake! And perhaps he might get the message that way!

Purplegiraffe345 · 31/05/2025 08:13

Leaf blowers are so annoying! They’ve become toys for people now it’s very sad!

I really wish they would get banned.

MagpiePi · 31/05/2025 08:21

When I’m president of the world anyone who uses a leaf blower will indeed have it rammed where the sun don’t shine.

Mine too. And if its not the leaf blower (what leaves at this time of year?), its the pressure washer, the loudest grass mower in history, or multi-decibel chain saw. He actually has a collection of the noisiest power tools ever.

What I would give for the noise of a humble leaf blower! My neighbour spent all winter cutting down trees and branches and has a massive house size pile of them. She has purchased a diesel generated wood chipper and spends every weekend feeding branches through the fucking thing.
It starts up around 10 am
CHUGACHUGACHUGACHUGACHUCHUCUCUCUCUUCUCCUUCUC
Branch goes in
CHHHHWWEEEAAAAAAAAWWWAAAAAASSSCCGGHHH

Repeat until sundown with a short break for lunch. She wears ear defenders while doing it it is THAT loud. In 6 weekends she’s barely made a dent and I’m ready to feed her though the cocking machine.

Whatafustercluck · 31/05/2025 10:39

Oops. I use a leaf blower, but i don't think I'm an antisocial leaf blower user. Between the hours of 9 and 5 is OK isn't it? And certainly not for extended periods.

Whatifitallgoesright · 31/05/2025 10:45

Its just not fair that people who appear to hate nature have big gardens. They don't deserve them.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 31/05/2025 10:48

I absolutely feel your pain, my neighbor is a jet washer, I mean wtf does he find to jet wash, constantly???

Redpeach · 31/05/2025 10:53

What do leaf blowers actually do, just blow leaves into piles?

Consider getting a solicitor to write a letter complaining about nuisance. "Nuisance" in its legal meaning is something that prevents another person having the quiet enjoyment of their home. That might make her a bit more aware of need to be considerate.

Also, have you looked into whether the trees were/are protected, either by Tree Preservation Orders or by being in a conservation area? Can be checked out with local council. If protected and the work is being done without council permission, she's breaking the law, and work should stop, also she should get a fine.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 31/05/2025 11:05

Your neighbours sound incredibly annoying but I'm not sure what the problem is with occasional, appropriate leafblower use. We're surrounded by large trees and if we didn't do something about the leaves in autumn our garden would be slimy mush for months. We leafblower them into a big pile, run the mower over and bag them up to make leafmould. Without the blower it takes flipping forever.

edited I think so. A neighbour up here has a vacuum for his.

pictoosh · 31/05/2025 11:07

Leaf blowers are an absolute menace and so completely unnecessary.

Nousernamesleftatall · 31/05/2025 11:10

Yanbu. My neighbour has a gardener whose first task of the day is blowing the leaves near my boundary.

How many trees are/were there?? And why? I love trees.

All of those and an angle grinder (used purposely on beautiful sunny days, the utter bastard).

Bearhunt468 · 31/05/2025 11:17

I use a leaf blower/muncher thing as otherwise the leaves are all mulchy and my baby can't crawl around without trying to put half of them in her mouth. And jet wash my AstroTurf as dog poos on it and sometimes even after picking them up it leaves a little bit of mess, before kids play out there on a sunny day/having company over for a BBQ. Probably only takes 10 mins in total and always after 9am. I didn't realise they were so hated by people! Once a year at the beginning on summer I'll also jet wash the patio and trampoline ready for the summer so that takes longer but really is once a year.

“He’s probably OCD” - and he’s probably just an inconsiderate arsehole.

Slatterndisgrace · 31/05/2025 11:19

I used to use a rake when I had a lawn. Is that not something anyone does anymore? How did people with children cope in the days pre leaf blowers/jet washers?

Holly485 · 31/05/2025 11:22

Oh we have a neighbour like this, he doesn't suck or collect any leaves up he just spends hours blowing them all into the road. He's just an all round arsehole though.

Substitute penis. One's not enough for some men.
