in wanting to ram my neighbour’s leaf blower where the sun doesn’t shine?

I know I’m tired, menopausal, in chronic pain and I also have an infection from where I had a tooth removed so I’m extra grumpy right now but hear me out.

My across the fence neighbour is using his leaf-blower yet again, yes 8:45pm on a Friday night he has nothing better to do than suck up leaves from his garden. 9am Sunday morning he is at it, one warm sunny day he was either leaf-blowing or pressure washing ALL day. The thing is there’s a small under 2 year old who lives next door to him and another baby across from him why would you do this?

He also whinges about my and the other neighbours trees, mine are cherry blossoms do even though we have trimmed them so none of them are close to his fence sometimes for that one week in May some of the cherry blossom gets in his garden. He also does annoying things like water his garden whilst I have a dry washing out in the evening, wetting my washing. He also has a large dog he locks out the house and the poor thing barks at the patio doors. Oh and then I hear him and his wife screaming at each other all the time. He sounds obnoxious.

But it’s the leaf/blowing that grinds my gears, he needs to get another hobby!

That’s quite a list you have there….

Oops. I use a leaf blower, but i don't think I'm an antisocial leaf blower user. Between the hours of 9 and 5 is OK isn't it? And certainly not for extended periods.

just get a rake and put your neighbours out of their misery.

I use a leaf blower/muncher thing as otherwise the leaves are all mulchy and my baby can't crawl around without trying to put half of them in her mouth. And jet wash my AstroTurf as dog poos on it and sometimes even after picking them up it leaves a little bit of mess, before kids play out there on a sunny day/having company over for a BBQ. Probably only takes 10 mins in total and always after 9am. I didn't realise they were so hated by people! Once a year at the beginning on summer I'll also jet wash the patio and trampoline ready for the summer so that takes longer but really is once a year.

I don’t think anyone begrudges the occasional use of garden tools it’s the ones who use them all day every day that are a pain.

A friend who lives in an area with spread out properties and large gardens is driven mad by ride-on lawnmowers. He says they just ride around all day on them. Nothing better to do, and their way of avoiding their wives (who are probably thankful to get them out the house).

All this description needs is a hot tub & a set of wind chimes, & you've got the perfect MN-hated garden.😂

It doesn't have a cat in it because the cat's in a neighbour's garden using a flower bed as a litter tray, killing songbirds & eyeing up the food it can see through the kitchen window.

i remember my first day back in the office after the pandemic, couldn't hear ourselves think during a meeting due the on-off roaring outside. I stood up and looked out the window clearly annoyed, and the gardener was stood there, leaf blower in hand, eyeballing right at me like 'yeah. I'm blowing leaves bitch. What you gonna do about it'.

I don't even notice it anymore, clearly I'd just gotten used to the quietness of WFH!

We use it to get the dropped leaves from the neighbours' privet hedge out of our slated/ grevelled corner so I don't think a rake would do it. Besides, the way I see it, we don't make a fuss about their privet hedge growing over the fence and into our garden (we've nicely asked them to cut it back a bit but they haven't) so they can put up with 15 minutes of leaf blowing noise about once a week.

Your neighbours 2 year old is definitely not still sleeping at 9am on a sunday in May. No self respecting 2 year old is, that kid has been up since 5 and thinks the leaf blower is brilliant.

That's quite reasonable.

We have a leaf vacuum but not a leaf blower. Can't possibly rake the rockery. Not every area can be raked. It's probably only used once or twice a season though.
