Angela Rayner set up to fail

billysboy · 25/05/2025 06:39

I can help think that Angela Rayner has been set up to fail on her housing targets
having promised to build ( not convert old offices ) 1.5m new homes by the end of her term the government seems woefully behind
for the next 4 years 370k homes will need to be built each year to achieve this as currently 225 k new homes last year

I can’t help think that she is doomed to fail without massive planning reforms and a huge social housing building programme

There are things we aren’t talking about with the housing shortage.

One of them is the demise of multi generational housing. Granny no longer moves in with one of the dc when she’s older.

The other is divorce. Many families have two houses big enough for the DC but only fully occupied part time. So what was one family now spread across two homes.

I’m not saying that the above should/shouldn’t happen, just highlighting that it does and impacts the number of homes we need to build.

That’s because so many ungrateful adult brats treat their parents like total shit nowadays and dress it up as ‘boundaries’.

I don't think shes been set up to fail. I think she either not listening properly or doesnt understand the issues. I kmow someone who is a director of a large buikding firm and has regular meetings with her and her people. He says she and they don't listen to what they are telling them about how impossible their targets are. I can well believe this.

He feels that she surrounds herself with people that have come up with her through the unions and that their collective lack of experience in commercial companies/private sector is a massive problem. He tells me it's like both sides are talking in a different language.

A close fmaily member works for a union and I can also see this. It is a different, slightky cult-like, environment to a commercial building company with shareholders (has own issues with ethics, im sure, but clearly understand targets).

I have no idea about her as a person and I think the fact that she is a woman is not really relevant, much as I would like to support her on this basis. I think its about ideological capture and the power that unions have in politics.

DelphiniumDoreen · 25/05/2025 10:55

The housing targets in our area are frightening. So many houses needed in such a short space of time that it is going to cause massive problems.

I’m hoping she does fail. Not just AR but anyone in charge of those bonkers targets.

Highly unlikely given that the people advising her are career civil servants. I suspect the person you know is unused to government push back when he tries to blind them with science.

I’ve met her in real life a few times and she’s fab. Really like her. Wish she was the leader.

PandoraSocks · 25/05/2025 11:12

Wow, that was quick!

I haven’t met her, but I know a few people who have. They all say she is very charismatic, funny, likeable etc. And you have to admire anyone who has got to where she is from her background. That doesn’t mean she is up to succeeding in such a big, complex job in which massive structural change is needed, though.

bombastix · 25/05/2025 11:13

She is rather clever whatever you may think. Her proposals to tax the rich and make migrants pay more for the NHS or reduce benefits payments to them shows a politician thinking about how to win against Reform. I would not underestimate her

skymagentatwo · 25/05/2025 11:13

is that you moderating Angela 😂

@skymagentatwoYour post is horrible. But because I’m feeling kind, you need to know that “mealy mouthed” does not mean what you appear to think it means.

I didn't report that post but I'm very glad it's been removed. It was horrible.

There seems a running trait with the left and Libour, freedom of speech will not be tolerated that goes against them or their left-wing ideology's.

Try using more appropriate language. And it’s ideologies.

Criticism is fine. Unpleasant personal attacks not fine.HTH.
PS -remember to look up mealy-mouthed.

Freedom of speech comes with consequences, which resulted in your disgusting post being removed.

Nope. Disagree as much as you like without the disgusting language.

midlandsmummy123 · 25/05/2025 11:24

Other than working as a care worker when she left school I believe she's only ever worked for the labour party, if she'd worked for some large house building companies or social housing organisation she might have more understanding.

bombastix · 25/05/2025 11:24

Look it’s ironic to call Rayner names about her class and deportment but then also claim implicitly that you have the high standards to make that assessment.

Calling someone a chav says more about the poster than the subject of the insult

I know exactly why my posts are being removed, those on the left do not like criticism and unlike those on the right those more right-wing orientated don't report/shut down or lock up any one they disagree with or don't like.

If you don't like something leave it up and let others decide, but no that's not the left/socialist ideological way is it 😂

This is the left all over, they just want an echooooooo chamber 🙄
