Is the buyer a CF or am I?

I sold something for a couple of pounds on Vinted. I’d run out of new postage bags, I could either wait a few days to order & receive some more or reuse one I’d received something in and post it immediately. I decided on tbe latter, turned the bag inside out so the old label was inside, all info crossed out . It looked like new from tbe outside and was securely packaged. I thought to myself actually I should do that more often, better for the planet etc.
The buyer didn’t leave me feedback (thankfully), but did send me a message saying tbey didn’t appreciate being sent something in packaging that had already been used. Honestly, the packaging was like new from tbe outside.. I responded politely saying it was that or she had to wait longer for her £2.50 item, and tbat it was ironic that someone buying second hand clothes and tben complaining about 2nd hand (but new looking) packaging, I won’t enter into any further communication.
Before I re-use packaging again, I thought I’d ask on here whether it’s not the done thing and everyone expects new packaging? Receiving messages like that doesn’t bother me but my concern is whether another buyer might leave me poor feedback, which might affect future sales. Am I missing something?

I've seen vinted stuff sent in all sorts and I would never expect new packaging. The buyer is being odd.

FranticHare · 15/05/2025 15:48

That's hilarious! Your buyer is definitely the CF!

Hope they never buy anything off of me...

Notyourfaultbutmine · 15/05/2025 15:49

It wouldn't bother me. I don't like being sent things in bin bags because they always rip, but reusing good packaging is fine.

FancyCatSlave · 15/05/2025 15:49

I would say that about 75% of all my vinted parcels come in used packaging and it is absolutely fine. I did have one thing in a dog food bag which got a raised eyebrow from me but that’s all.
You are absolutely in the right @OMGitsnotgood

cherrytree12345 · 15/05/2025 15:50

I cant see you did anything wrong. I have also received stuff from vinted/Ebay in used packaging. So long as its clean I wouldn’t have a problem

GardenGaff · 15/05/2025 15:50

My last Vinted purchase arrived enclosed in a clear sandwich bag.

YANBU.

BingBongBoo86 · 15/05/2025 15:51

You’re fine. I send my Vinted stuff in used packages. I sometimes receive Vinted stuff in black bin bags or a supermarket bag wrapped in tape. As long as the item inside is ok, it’s all good. That buyer is being fussy.

TiswasPhantomFlanFlinger · 15/05/2025 15:54

@OMGitsnotgood
Your buyer is a CF. She will buy second hand clothes but doesn’t want 2nd packaging. Re-using packing is environmentally friendly. She’s weird.

RareGoalsVerge · 15/05/2025 16:00

I've received items which are packaged in a flimsy carrier bag with a bit of brown parcel tape holding it closed. I admit it gave me a poor impression of the seller but I wouldn't dream of contacting them to criticise!

Iloveacurry · 15/05/2025 16:01

You did nothing wrong. Surely she would of washed the item before she wore it anyway so what’s the big deal?

bugalugs45 · 15/05/2025 16:02

I have never bought new packaging ever and I’ve sold in excess of 400 items 🫣, nobody has ever complained ,
have had a couple of messages laughing at my
choice of boxes , breakfast cereal and teabag boxes being the highlight

DelboytrottersDnecklace · 15/05/2025 16:03

I've had my vinted parcels in some very odd packaging
The best one was a fish finger box (I think that was a ring)
I couldn't give less of a stuff as long as it arrives,is how it's described and clean
The packaging is only heading for the recycling/bin anyway

Whoarethoseguys · 15/05/2025 16:06

I always reuse packaging. It's wasteful to only use perfectly usable packaging once.
I think she is being very unreasonable.

sunshinedaisies00 · 15/05/2025 16:07

Everything people send on Vinted in my experience is 99% reused packaging! The buyer sounds crazy and unreasonable. If they want new packaging then they shouldn't buy second hand!!

ForOliveMember · 15/05/2025 16:08

I always reuse packaging if I can, and I've been sent items in a bin bag before. I don't care as long as it was clean, obviously.

Maybe they are new to vinted.

KarmaKameelion · 15/05/2025 16:09

Honestly I don’t mind second hand packaging! I’ve also received stuff inside a wrapped up Sainsbury’s plastic bug.

however by turning it inside out you are using the dirty side that could have been pretty dirty from being in a van, handled, sat outside ect. It could create stains ect on the item of clothing.

next time just stick your label over the other label.

pinksavannah · 15/05/2025 16:09

Iv received items in Tesco carrier bags and even an old oatmeal box 🫣😅

So it's definitely their issue not yours

what I’m trying to say is it probably wasn’t clean as she turned it inside out

Clownsy · 15/05/2025 16:10

I reuse packaging all the time.
Weirdo.

CitizenofMoronia · 15/05/2025 16:12

Shs mental... ignore and block

AlmostAJillSandwich · 15/05/2025 16:14

I always find it interesting getting second hand packaging, seeing what my sellers themselves like/buy!

extrasushiplease · 15/05/2025 16:15

What a precious buyer. As long as nothing leaked in the package beforehand or something like that, it's better for the earth AND your pocket book/space to reuse, and I've happily received reused mailers for over 2 decades in various secondhand places online.

Yes I think the mistake was turning it inside out. I have never done that. I just cross out then address and put label on top. It doesn't matter if the outside looks messy, used. The items will touching the inside. Maybe it's that that the buyer wasn't happy about?

OMGitsnotgood · 15/05/2025 16:16

Good point that it was the side that had been in the van that the content was against, but it certainly didn’t look dirty other wise I wouldn’t have used it. I didn’t want to take tbe risk of the new label being a different size but will do that another time. I always wash clothes any way before wearing, so can’t see the issue. Still if the buyer had said that her issue was with it being inside out, I’d have accepted that as a fair, although the top wouldn’t have got dirty and she could have washed it if she was germ phobic . She seemed only to be offended by it being second hand.

I sell stuff re-using old packaging and never had a comment or complaint about it.
