To say he must take his watch off to change DS’s nappy?

I thought this was just usual and everyone did that?

While YABU to insist on it (it’s his choice unless he has accidentally scratched him), I must admit I didn’t wear my metal watch once I’d had a baby - after I accidentally scratched DS with it once (he was a very wriggly baby!) and DS often did some awesome poonami’s (he even managed to shoot it up the wall by the changing table once or twice!) so I wasn’t risking a pricey watch as they are a pain to clean.

Trouble is you get out of the habit of wearing it though - Ive gotten used to checking my phone in my pocket or wall clocks now, so my watch just sits in the box even now DS is out of nappies.

CallItHome · 10/05/2025 13:13

I think you need to dial it down a bit.

TimeForABreak4 · 10/05/2025 13:17

Never with multiple children's nappy changes have I ever had poo on a watch. Even with the once that were one and would try perform back flips when changing them. Id be very annoyed if my DH tried to tell me I must do anything tbh.

Growlybear83 · 10/05/2025 13:20

I don’t remember a single occasion when I got poo on my hands when changing my daughter’s nappy, let alone far enough up my arm to get on a watch 🤣🤣. I never removed any jewellery when I was changing or bathing her - I’ve never taken my wedding ring off in almost 45 years and have only removed my other rings and jewellery when I’ve been told to do so before having surgery.

TaggieO · 10/05/2025 13:21

I suggest you pop over to classics and read the PFB thread, because this is utterly bonkers. It’s a baby, not a glove puppet - if you are getting poo up the wrists when changing them you are doing it really, really wrong.

AlphabetBird · 10/05/2025 13:25

If, as an adult, I accidentally get a bit of poo on my watch changing a nappy, then it’s surely my responsibility as an adult to wipe it off. I would be incredibly offended if someone else tried to manage my choices to this extent - it is infantilising and rude.

Why worry so much about what other people choose to do or not do?

Also, like everyone else, I never managed to get shite all up my arms, even with the worst explosions.

IVbumble · 10/05/2025 13:29

Change the baby on your lap - less chance of wriggling & no need to take anything off.

[though i have got poo on the side of my thumb once but you know - thats what soap is for]

cryinglaughing · 10/05/2025 13:32

Crikey 😳
You take all your jewellery off to change a nappy?
Just bizarre, I can't quite work.out how you might get poo on your watch.

Frauhubert · 10/05/2025 13:38

Depends on a watch? If it’s a shitty one anyway why bother, if it’s a vintage Cartier then maybe maybe 🤔

socks1107 · 10/05/2025 13:39

No I never did? I mean long time ago now things have changed but I never took it off

ThisOpenMauveLurker · 10/05/2025 13:41

Interestingly BUPA recommend including the wrist in standard handwashing after changing nappies.

Beeiappp · 10/05/2025 11:46

@Scottishgirl85 no but obviously the position of the hand when wiping. I always take off jewellery.

I never took off my watch or rings. Always washed my hands after (still with rings and watch on). Never got any “nappy contents” anywhere near my watch!

But obviously remove your clothes first, just in case

Picklepower · 10/05/2025 14:01

I would be much more worried about losing things that I take off than I would be about potential baby poo getting on them

scalt · 10/05/2025 14:04

Is he playing netball at the same time as changing nappies? (Watches have to be removed for netball.)

alcoholnightmare · 10/05/2025 14:05

Ridiculous.

SilviaSnuffleBum · 10/05/2025 14:06

Beeiappp · 10/05/2025 11:45

Because I worry he will get dirt on it! And then not be able to clean it off properly if we are out.

I stand corrected though, I’m obviously in the wrong here!!

This is nuts!

CantStopMoving · 10/05/2025 14:34

sprigatito · 10/05/2025 13:09

I would try to loosen up about trace amounts of baby shit if I were you! You are going to end up covered in it at some point. (Fond memories of the time DS1 let rip during a nappy change and fully pebble-dashed DH’s glasses).

Oh that brings back memories when we took nappy off the youngest and my toddler was watching- projectile poop all over toddler. We honestly didn’t laugh. At . All. (Thankfully no residual trauma years later!)

Grammarnut · 10/05/2025 16:00

Why? What an odd thing to do. Do you take off rings and things? Are you worried about poo in the works?

TheGreyQuail · 10/05/2025 16:26

Beeiappp · 10/05/2025 11:48

@Flossingisforteeth no but it’s different with a different with a wriggling child

Most babies wriggle at some point during a nappy change. I had 6 kids and must have changed a few 1000 nappies but never have I removed watches or jewellery, even with a high set bilg old fuck off diamond engagement ring.
Never needed to and washed hands with antibac hand wash afterwards.

TheGreyQuail · 10/05/2025 16:29

PFB? It must be, because most parents will just wade in and carry on regardless with the 2nd and onwards.

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 10/05/2025 11:44

Perhaps he doesn't have the time?

😂😂😂😂😂😂

If it's a shitty one..?! Unintended pun?!

CountFucula · 10/05/2025 16:35

I feel quite sorry for some of these new dads. Must be a fucking nightmare to deal with this intensity.

B1indEye · 10/05/2025 13:00

Dirt to me means something connected with soil, I dont think I've come across it for baby poo 😁

You've never heard the phrase 'dirty nappy'?
