I thought this was just usual and everyone did that?

Thinking it through my watch arm is “hold legs up” arm and the other hand does the wiping anyway (not that I ever ended up with a hand covered anyway, I found baby wipes better for wiping than my hand!)

I used my big hand for the legs and my little hand for the wipes.

Because I worry he will get dirt on it! And then not be able to clean it off properly if we are out.

I stand corrected though, I’m obviously in the wrong here!!

I wouldn’t say you’re in the wrong. I think it’s a personal preference. I never took mine off for example. I think as long as you dont make him do it then it’s perfectly fine.

I do remove my bigger rings because I don't want to scratch the babies, but never even occur to me to remove simple bands, and my watch.

I see what you did there 😂

Do your babies roll around in the garden? Where would dirt be coming from?

Poo. Babies poo. I change their nappy to clean it off them.
They do roll around in the garden, yes, but it's not only at nappy changing time that I would be touching them.

... and who are you tell an adult what he must do?

why ? Is a question, it’s not telling anyone what to do .

Do you ask him to take it off when he cleans is own arse after a shit too?

Because that's just ask likely to result in a shitty watch strap. Either way, soap and water will sort it out.

SnobblyBobbly · 10/05/2025 12:51

What?

LBFseBrom · 10/05/2025 12:52

I never did. Why? I didn't get poo or wee that far up my wrists. If I did, I'd obviously clean it but it never happened.

Wee is sterile unless there is an infection.

No doubt he washes his hands after doing the change.

Honestly, the things people think of.

AllThatGlistensIsntCold · 10/05/2025 12:55

Surely he should strip off and don a hazard suit.

That would do the job.

peeweehill · 10/05/2025 12:55

Never heard of this.
Sounds a bit much and controlling if he cant change a nappy with a watch on do it yourself.
Or get off your high horse.
Some parents today need a course and earn a licence before they become parents.

NannyPlum7 · 10/05/2025 12:56

What batshittery is this now?

You’re being a bit paranoid! Just let him be.

2ndbestslayer · 10/05/2025 12:56

I strongly urge you against micro managing your other half like this. You're creating a situation where you are chief/default parent. Yoú may like that control now but at some point you'll regret it when you end up picking up the parental load all the time

Dirt to me means something connected with soil, I dont think I've come across it for baby poo 😁

Neveranynamesleft · 10/05/2025 13:02

Baby can learn to tell the time at the same time....

GoodWorkSally · 10/05/2025 13:02

I think all the posters making silly puns should dial it down.

Shinealighty · 10/05/2025 13:03

OP, kindly do you have OCD with contamination? I’ve never thought to remove a watch for nappies

KnickerlessParsons · 10/05/2025 13:04

Does he have to take his watch off when he wipes his own bum too?

Shinealighty · 10/05/2025 13:05

I think people should be a bit kinder to the OP I think there is obviously something deeper going on and I hope that she (I’m assuming a she) is okay.

BobbyBiscuits · 10/05/2025 13:07

I guess if he's not very good at changing the baby or there was a massive poonami I'd imagine the Rolex could bear the consequences to an extent.
But surely it's his watch and if you don't think he's capable of cleaning off poo from something valuable then that doesn't say much for his personal hygiene.

sprigatito · 10/05/2025 13:09

I would try to loosen up about trace amounts of baby shit if I were you! You are going to end up covered in it at some point. (Fond memories of the time DS1 let rip during a nappy change and fully pebble-dashed DH’s glasses).

Dirt?

You mean shit?

Why on earth are you getting shit on your wrists?

How do you change a nappy, that thats even possible? I'm disabled with motor issues and have never managed to get shit up my arms. It a bizarre thing to think is a big likely to occur risk.

SingWithMeJustForToday · 10/05/2025 13:11

Really? Why?

I’ve never taken anything off. I wear a watch, two bracelets and my marriage and engagement rings. I’ve now been doing nappies for four years and haven’t had an issue.

Hankunamatata · 10/05/2025 13:12

Er nope. If I'd taken my jewellery off my wee demons would have prob ate it
