DH’s latest fitness challenge..anyone else not fussed by a six pack?

DogLover94 · 09/05/2025 19:08

DH usually sets himself a different fitness related challenge each year - normally based around running or an event.

This year is different…he wants to get abs/a six pack.

Now it’s nothing to do with me I know, and fair play to him.

But, slightly light heartedly, am I alone in saying I really don’t find this look attractive with men?

I don’t like it either!

LizzoBennett · 09/05/2025 19:23

I associate it with being vane and high maintenance but I enjoy the view...

WhereIsMyJumper · 09/05/2025 19:25

Nah not bothered about a six pack

Shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps and forearms however…

Doesn't really do anything for me. Must have to have such a low fat diet for it!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 09/05/2025 19:28

Yeah I’m not overly keen. If I was going to choose a favourite body type, it would be strong and muscled but with enough of a layer of fat over the top that there’s no sharp corners on abs and pecs. Like “I’ve been out all day chopping wood and then come home and eaten a roast dinner” type vibe 😂

I think the incredibly ripped muscles are more to impress other men than to impress women to be honest. In the same way most women care more about what other women think about their outfits than what men think.

Hatty65 · 09/05/2025 19:29

I think the narcissism would bother me. I associate the desire for a 6 pack with vanity and shallowness, to be honest.

I'm not very interested in someone's looks. It is generally the least interesting thing about them, and I've generally found that 'good looking' men feel they are God's gift to women without needing to do anything else.

Boring.

NotMyRealAccount · 09/05/2025 19:32

Having a six pack tends to be more about having a very low body fat than about exercise, and I don't find fussiness about food the least bit attractive.

Greenfields20 · 09/05/2025 19:32

I'd rather have a man with a six pack than a man with a cold wobbly hairy belly. It's also a sign of someone who can be disciplined and someome who can put in the effort 😊

MoominMai · 09/05/2025 19:38

@DogLover94 I mean I wouldn’t turn it down 😅. But dad bod all the way haha

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 09/05/2025 19:46

Agreed. It's very "men's health model". I always assume they are either on an extreme diet, roids, or vain.

I like shoulders and thighs... and men who look like they use their bodies, not just train.

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 09/05/2025 19:50

Fortunately for me, Mrs Maximus is not worried about a six pack.

Now, where’s my beer?

5128gap · 09/05/2025 20:02

I think it looks amazing. I also understand his desire to see what his body is capable of. It doesn't have to be vanity or aesthetics as much as a challenge to see if he can achieve it, as its very difficult and takes a lot of work. Not everything is about 'a look'.

BIossomtoes · 09/05/2025 20:04

I find a six pack hideous. I like cuddling up to a dad bod - just as well really!

Flamingoknees · 09/05/2025 20:45

It's too try hard. I hate any thing "try hard" in men's looks. Vanity is a total turn off and very un manly.

mynameiscalypso · 09/05/2025 20:48

My DH has a six pack but as a PP said, it’s because he’s very slim and has a typical runner’s build. I don’t really care either way but it’s nothing to do with me. Other than the fact that he moans about being cold a lot.

Unless he walks around without his top on it will only be you seeing it though. Apart from on holiday of course.

Userengage · 09/05/2025 21:04

I like a flat stomach, I like a six-pack - I prefer them over a dad bod kind of stomach.

AdventureCode · 09/05/2025 21:21

reminds me of this about Ollie Murs
A man asked everyone whether they preferred the look of Ollie before or after his exercise. Men liked the look of him post exercise regime, but women chose the before Ollie. The men then got mad...

gannett · 09/05/2025 21:37

Love a six pack. Love abs and love having abs myself. It's not a necessity or anything - basic slim and toned will do me in a man - but it's certainly preferable to dad bods and beer bellies.

shellyleppard · 09/05/2025 21:38

I'd rather have a dad bod to hug.... something to grab hold of Lol

Studyunder · 09/05/2025 21:40

How old is he? Is this a realistic achievement for his age and build?

plantsnpants · 09/05/2025 21:43

Honestly I generally have abs year round at certain times of the year due to competitions I get really shredded 6 pack and those times I am awful to be around and feel like crap. My sexy drive dwindles and I am freezing- I would not like my husband to get a 6 pack, going below 15% body fat is miserable

Gowlett · 09/05/2025 21:46

Before Olly is more attractive, but fair play to him getting fit.
