DH’s latest fitness challenge..anyone else not fussed by a six pack?

DogLover94 · 09/05/2025 19:08

DH usually sets himself a different fitness related challenge each year - normally based around running or an event.

This year is different…he wants to get abs/a six pack.

Now it’s nothing to do with me I know, and fair play to him.

But, slightly light heartedly, am I alone in saying I really don’t find this look attractive with men?

How old is he? Is this a realistic achievement for his age and build?

Mid 30’s, he’s quite muscular but has a bit of a belly- I’m sure he’ll achieve it with the way he gets stuck into things.

I aspire to the Olly Murs before picture!

bluesatin · 09/05/2025 22:08

I think swimmers have the best physiques

reminds me of this about Ollie Murs
A man asked everyone whether they preferred the look of Ollie before or after his exercise. Men liked the look of him post exercise regime, but women chose the before Ollie. The men then got mad...

He has a six pack on the left though. Not a particular trim or well defined one but it’s there.

He is decently fit there already, he’s just built more muscle and cut bodyfat on the right. Just to get to Olly Murs is a few months work if you’re starting from zero and not overweight.

Mine has a six pack from training years ago also the arms chest whole lot does absolutely nothing training wise now so not try hard but has a fairly physical job. Is all very nice but does make me feel a bit of a podge in comparison sometimes!

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/05/2025 22:47

Quite the opposite. Screams self-obsessed to me.

I'd rather have a man with a six pack than a man with a cold wobbly hairy belly. It's also a sign of someone who can be disciplined and someome who can put in the effort 😊

Why would the belly be cold?

tripleginandtonic · 10/05/2025 05:14

Yabu

Just my experience. I've been with toned men, muscly men, overweight men etc etc. Toned and muscly men definitely felt warmer to the touch 😆

LavenderBlue19 · 10/05/2025 06:54

Nope, not bothered. I don't find very bulky muscly bodies attractive.

I dated someone with a six pack once, but not acquired in the gym - he was working on a farm, plus was early 20s and a very lean body type. He ate normally and wasn't precious about it. That was quite nice, I'll admit!

Bert2025 · 10/05/2025 06:57

I like a flat-ish, defined stomach but we enjoy cooking and eating too much for six packs! It's impressive discipline but think I would find the need for thinking about calories etc... to maintain it overly obsessive? His choice though.

footpath · 10/05/2025 07:01

I like the look but for men or women to have one they tend to have to be fairly obsessive food and exercise wise - which is unattractive.

EggnogNoggin · 10/05/2025 07:10

Yuck.

I like the Jennifer Aniston style but for men- toned but not buff. Like you can see definition but not hours of gym work.

Rabidbunnyrabbit · 10/05/2025 07:22

DH used to have arms like Pope's when we met. Naturally. He's sort of sturdy. Not fat, not thin...just right. He's got a round but toned Jean-Claude VanDamme backside on him. Much admired by observers over the years. Especially in a pair of nicely cut chinos.

A soft six pack has naturally appeared occasionally, if he's been working particularly hard at work for several months. It's all good either way. He doesn't work out with weights or anything. Lucky bugger.

He's never gone all vein poppy. Thank the lord. I don't care for the super tight muscles look though. For some reason it makes me feel queasy. No idea why at all.

I preferred the Olly Murs before photo, on the above link, and the Hugh Jack an on the right-hand magazine cover. I think both would have been perfect 50/50 between the two image options, if I'm honest.
A lot of men, and some women, don't seem to know when enough is good enough and carry on till it looks ugly.

footpath · 10/05/2025 07:23

The Pope!

Rabidbunnyrabbit · 10/05/2025 07:24

Oh, FFS.

... arms like Popeye not Pope.

I'd really not find it attractive if DH looked like a pope.

Rabidbunnyrabbit · 10/05/2025 07:25

Bloody auto correct!

BlackPantherPrincess · 10/05/2025 07:26

Hmmm I don’t mind one, I like more subtly toned..

😆

Icebreakhell · 10/05/2025 07:32

Urgh no, vanity and food fussiness.

I like a man who looks like he’s been chopping down timber- big arms and shoulders. Covered in a bit of fat to show he loves his food.

I think gym bodies are more of a gay man’s preference.

ERthree · 10/05/2025 07:41

WhereIsMyJumper · 09/05/2025 19:25

Nah not bothered about a six pack

Shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps and forearms however…

You need a Scaffolder in your life. The older ones come with all of that but no six pack just a beer belly😄

Teado · 10/05/2025 07:49

In fairness, the recently deceased pope was a rather handsome man and so is the new chap. 😆 No idea about their abs though.

araiwa · 10/05/2025 07:54

Given that he's doing it as a personal challenge, I doubt he gives a fuck about what anyone else thinks
