I’ve never seen or heard a parent refer to their child as “sexy”

I’ve never seen anyone having a nap on a public bench.

I’ve never seen someone cajole their daughter into the aisle at a wedding so they can be a stealth bridesmaid

All the above is what I’ve read about on MN recently that people do and have seen before done, regularly.

Dog ownership being classed as a cult and the ensuing drama llama comments casting dogs as the devil. Very bizarre behaviour.

I don't think dog ownership is being cast as a cult, just that there has been a significant change in some peoples ideas of dog ownership where they feel quite rightly that their dog is part of their family but expect the rest of the world to also treat their dog as part of their family, as if they're a human member.

But you wouldn’t use the word in real life you’d make a vomiting sound. It only works written down.

People say it in Scotland all the time 🤷‍♀️

Totally agree on the rent point. Virtually all of my university friends, as well as my siblings, spent some time living back home after university. Never heard of anyone paying their parents rent. I was shocked to read on MN that people charge their 18 year-olds rent - complete eye opener.

See when I was a teenager it was getting a job and pay rent- or move out. Usually you were expected to get the job at 16 after I levels. Very few people stayed on and was only in the " better off " families.
My best friend was one of 8 kids in 9 years. Imagine all those living at home and not contributing. Her mum worked lots of hours also

I paid board and I paid my own poll tax, that’s rather aged me I know!

I had to pay poll tax also ( so shows my age) although it was my own flat

TBF I think many times it is said in jest

Sometimes in jest…sometimes less so …

eg. A sexually frustrated DH with small
kids in the trenches, DW understandly not interested, caught looking at porn - clearly because he’s a misogynistic vile promoter of the rape of women and girls and must hate his DW and their children- so LTB !!

I mean really???

Bobbyewingshowerscene · 10/05/2025 11:51

Cur next poster coming in to say ‘well
of I found my DH looking at porn it would be. A dealbreaker for me etc

would it ? Would it really …???

Nobody in realise ever breaks up/advises someone to breakup because of someone who is sexually frustrated has been looking at porn -
porn addiction yes
sexless marriage yes
only fans subscription yes

looking at porn during a dry patch in an otherwise healthy marriage

ONLY ON MUMSNET

Welll my 18 year is at college ,but once he,s e working yes ,I would l.expect him to pay board ,what blows my minds is that posters can't see past their own personal circumstances, and not realise that not all.families can afford ,to.have an adult child living at home rent free

givemesteel · 10/05/2025 16:04

I've never known anyone who is such a mug as to end up giving someone a lift too and from work every single day which involves a half hour detour or whatever and doesn't get any petrol money. But it seems to happen all the time here.

MissMarplesNiece · 10/05/2025 16:25

I once fell asleep on a park bench.
I was blue lighted to hospital unconscious with sepsis.
I don't answer the door or the phone unless the person has texted or emailed me beforehand to let me know they're calling.
I paid rent to my mum as soon as I had a job.
I've been in women's toilets with a transwoman and it didn't bother me in the slightest.

My fil died of sepsis as did my husband's niece. The niece was ill during covid but it wasn't covid so she was repeatedly to go away She had a huge absess on her liver. It burst resulting in sepsis. She was admitted to hospital and pumped full of antibiotics but it was far too late. She was 42.

That's horrific I'm so sorry

Redpeach · 09/05/2025 15:33

I've never met anyone who loses their shit over a tiny scratch on their car

You haven't met my husband...

My sil also died of sepsis when she was 41 although it was prior to covid,
she had what she thought was flu, and died during the night leaving her three kids without a mother ,it's frightening how quickly it can take hold.

My uncle died of sepsis. He found a strange bruise and died 2 days later

I have also never heard anyone, in the comfort of their own garden, talk about all the benefits and PIP they get, and say how they lie about getting it... all in earshot of neighbours and anyone walking past their house.

Actually sat in the garden listening to this now lol

MuffinsAreJustCakesAtBreakfast · 09/05/2025 07:42

the comparison is made because they are living beings with free will being taken into spaces where the accompanying adult is responsible for their behaviour.

I am in no way saying dogs and children are the same.

I have never seen a dog take a shit in a café so I'll count myself lucky.

Edited

I Know a dog who did a shit in the pub restaurant section. They are banned now !

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 10/05/2025 09:26

They do, all the time.

I read somewhere that something like 80% of deaths announced on the internet aren’t real.

I imagine there are people on MN whose death people have mourned after being told by a relative posting here that it’s happened weren’t real, I know someone who invented several personas online, befriended people on WhatsApp/messenger and then killed off the persona just as they were getting close.

There have been people on here who have made up premature births, miscarriages, child illnesses. They do it because it gives them attention and gives them a sense of validation.

It’s much easier to lie on the internet because it’s anonymous. Nobody knows who you are or is ever likely to find out, so why not.

And there will also be people living out their life which they would like to have, a big house, loads of kids, rich husband, while meanwhile they’re living in a two bed flat with an army of cats and are still a virgin.

Basically you can be whoever or whatever you want online.

That makes sense, but wow that’s sad.
I mean, I don’t judge somebody for what sort of house they live in and I’ve always been curious about why people rush to Mumsnet to share that their loved one has died - this seems like the last place I’d go for comfort, to strangers. I suppose some people do.
I’ve wondered about those people who said “look at this £12million house I just bought” because it’s so outing, but I just thought people like to brag.
All in all, I think I’m a big fat sucker.
Thank you, @AnyoneWhoHasAHeart— I’ll be much more discerning in the future thanks to you. ❤️

When I was 13/14 my mother said I had great sex appeal. I later had two beautiful daughters and would never dream of saying something like that to them.

I've never met anybody who's had sepsis (and I have a fairly broad and varied social circle), yet if half of the A&E threads on Mumsnet are to be believed, most people have had it at least four times.

😂genuinely my mum has had it twice, my best friend (they both have autoimmune disorders though) and also a colleague after she stood on glass it turned to sepsis!

Lollipop81 · 10/05/2025 19:48

Funnily enough I saw someone asleep on a park bench earlier on today 🤣🤣🤣 but no to the other 2.
i mean I read on here the other day it’s totally normal for women to give birth by themselves and the woman who was upset her mom wouldn’t be around to watch the children whilst she gave birth so her husband could be there was entitied 🤣🤣

Anon39 · 10/05/2025 21:13

I’ve never seen anyone “toddle” off as a grown adult 😂 but I see it referenced on MN all the time and everytime I read it I imagine a fully grown adult doing a silly walk.

i “toddled” off to get the letter or whatever and I silently laugh to myself when I read it.

CyanMaker · 10/05/2025 21:42

There are people on here who think it's the end of the world if life throws them a little curve. A lot of the time their problem is their own fault. There is much more drama on mumsnet than I've seen in real life. Reading all the posts makes me think my own life is pretty good in comparison lol.
