Am I the only one who just doesn't get the hype surrounding Crocs and clog type shoes??

I just think they are so damned ugly and I am probably going to get crucified on here by the croc lovers 😂

I just don't get it 🤔

Tell me what is so special about them?

I haven’t got the original style of croc. I’ve got flip flops and sandals. They’re just as comfortable though.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 07/05/2025 13:08

Ugly but amazingly comfortable

I think they are sensible for people like nurses, including dental surgery assistants (and receptionists), who are on their feet so much. I presume those are the 'they' to whom you refer.

It really is not nice to laugh at what other people wear (or at things they eat sometimes), it displays stupidity alongside gossip, not uncommon amongst gossipy people who have little else to occupy their minds.

What a strange response. If it is me "to whom you refer" to in your comment.
The people that were laughing about the crocs looking ugly were also in on the joke and laughing about it themselves. 🙄
As for talking about anyone eating anything I have no idea what you are talking about.

This probably breaks all sorts of MN rules but we have a pair of communal crocs. They started off being mainly for DS (he loves crocs) but me and DD would wear them to put the washing out or empty the bins. Now DS has grown out of them so they are for me or DD to wear for occassional chores. I wear them when I'm cleaning the shower as well. ( I don't want to get my socks wet but flip flops are a bit slippy!)

DS has one pair of fur lined crocs as slippers and one pair of normal crocs for almost anything else sports mode

I argue that sliders and yeezys are just as ugly, if not more so

We have communal crocs and birkenstocks 😆 In fact, most footwear is shared with my dd (and often my mum when she visits). My ds will soon be able to share too.

I hate how they look but sometimes they are all that I can wear. I even got married in mine. I have had a partial amputation of my foot which means that it’s affected how I walk and as I have no pad of fat on the ball of my foot walking can be painful. I can go months where I don’t need to wear them, but then the skin will break down if I’ve walked too much and I’m back to having my foot dressed every week and to wearing the crocs. I work with young people and often get compliments about my clothes, style etc and take care of my appearance. I can just about tolerate having to wear crocs now and again. But I really really wish that people would fuck the fuck off when they start another crocs hating thread!

Why is it ok for you to say you hate how they look but the rest of us that do have to fuck off?

helpmepleasewiththis · 09/05/2025 07:44

@Teenybubbecause in regular life I wouldn’t say it! I would ignore. It feels almost stigmatising to wear the things when people are local about how they are so ugly and the connotations that the people who wear them are lacking in style.

helpmepleasewiththis · 09/05/2025 07:52

@andwealllovecloverjust search this site and you will see plenty of comments expressing similar thoughts. I don’t like them, I have to wear them, but I don’t need reminding how ugly they are. Did you touch a nerve? Absolutely you did!

Mama2many73 · 09/05/2025 08:18

MyBiL used to be a chef and wore, and swore by, clogs.

The film Idiocracy (2006) had a very limited budget the costume designer thought the cheap plastic shoes made by the then startup company were futuristic yet too stupid looking to ever become popular in real life. A satirical film with an ironic outcome!

Greenartywitch · 09/05/2025 08:28

I think Birkenstocks are the ugliest shoes in the universe.

Makes people walk like penguins and instantly make feet look the twice the size they actually are.

So you don't like them and find them ugly too, so basically are actually agreeing with me then.

I totally get that some people wear them for work (chefs/medics) and that they are massively comfortable for people in professions that are on their feet all day. Or some people have to wear them because its the only footwear they can use for whatever reason (pregnancy/plantar fasciitis) so I am not picking on anyone or their sense of style (each to their own)

Who said anything people wearing them being lacking in style? Each to their own.

Other people on this thread have expressed a dislike for Birkenstocks and Uggs. Everyone can wear what they want and people have their own taste.

I live in trainers because I work out daily and walk lots with my two dogs. Out of my trainers I am in boots and DM's. Some people would say I have no style and wonder what I see in DM's and class them clumpy and ugly. I don't take offence. Its what I like and what I am comfortable in so I don't really care.

This was meant to be a lighthearted thread and thankfully most people have taken it as such.

I spent a good 25 years getting to the point in life were i give absolutely not one tiny rats ass what other people think of my choices.
As a result of this i have crocs, uggs, birkies, any number of monstrosities.
Id rather be self assured in shit footwear than worried about what the masses think, or affected by their dislike of what goes on my feet.
I had assumed other adults were the same but these threads always seem to prove otherwise.

SquashedSquid · 09/05/2025 11:20

I still can't believe that there are grown adults who actually care about what other adults put on their bodies. I don't experience this in real life - I've only ever seen it on Mumsnet.

I love my Crocs. I've worn them for almost 20 years and I don't think they're ugly. My oldest ones look as good as my newest ones.

Tbrh · 09/05/2025 11:37

I think there is something wrong when you see a whole family, kids, parents and grandparents wearing them. Aa an adult you shouldn't have the same shoes as your toddler and/or elderly parent

Panda89 · 09/05/2025 11:39

DD8 wore her crocs to school today (non uniform day) adorned with Pokémon ‘Jibbitz’
she loves them 😂
I do have a pair but tend to wear them in the garden and on holiday rather than day to day wear.

DinoLil · 09/05/2025 11:41

YES!!! I 100% agree! They're horrible. My DM loves them, my friend wears nothing but, my nieces and nephew live in them. Horrible, horrible!

Where did I say I care about what other people put on their feet?

I merely expressed a personal opinion that I find them ugly and wonder why so many people wear them, which was meant to be lighthearted and most people thankfully have taken it that way. And I also have my answer, that they are massively comfortable. Each to their own.

You love your crocs, and don't think they are ugly, good for you.
