To be sick of the enduring athleisure trend?

Just that really! I’m so sick of seeing women in activewear leggings. And now that we’re having some better weather the shorts are out. I saw a woman today in a pair of butter yellow short, short, shorts which left nothing to the imagination. I’m sorry I don’t need to see every lump and bump on your behind and legs.

Go on.. tell me how miserable I am 🙄😂

Usually it's the person that is walking at snails pace in front of you that has them on, shame it doesn't make them walk a bit quicker.

Cherrytree86 · 06/05/2025 08:38

People can wear what they want OP @FluWorldOrder
HTH

GraveAndQuiet · 06/05/2025 08:52

What does HTH mean? I mean, I know it stands for Happy To Help but doesn't it really mean Fuck You? If so, why not dare to say it?

Pickingmyselfup · 06/05/2025 09:10

You don't need to wear structured clothing to tell you are putting on weight. I rarely wear anything with structure but I know I've gained a few when things feel tighter, even the stretchy stuff feels tighter, plus I have eyes.

Probably because you get put on the Mumsnet naughty step for saying things like ‘fuck you’. ‘HTH’ is a bit more palatable.

brunettemic · 06/05/2025 09:42

Wear what you want. I wear a lot of leggings and sports type wear. Funnily enough where I am it’s a big thing for boys too - Montirex as far as the eye can see and I think it’s great for them.

NewBinBag · 06/05/2025 09:49

If you're hot, wear the damn shorts.

Disrespectful and sneery attitudes are way uglier than imperfect legs.

Bbq1 · 06/05/2025 10:59

Worse are those cut away shorts that has half the bum exposed. It's a really unpleasant look and always looks as if the wearer has bought shorts 2 sizes smaller than they need. I saw a girl a couple of weeks ago and the shorts literally had half of her bum cheeks on display. She was only a teenager and I did wonder why a parent would buy and allow her to wear shorts like that. I assume they are wearing them for attention to knowingly expose that much of yourself but it looks horrible.

Lnew · 06/05/2025 11:04

Athleisure is comfortable and practical. It’s much better than denim, for example, which is uncomfortable, tough, bulky and annoying.

Shodan · 06/05/2025 11:10

I don't mind the shorts tbh, but they do remind me of the large 'gym knickers' we used to have to wear at school for athletics in the summer term.

Mind you, they had a pocket for a hanky, so of slightly more use than today's version. And of course, today's wearers won't be tucking an aertex games blouse into them.

40andlovelife · 06/05/2025 11:27

I have started rewatching desperate housewives from 20 years ago. The characters gabby and Susan wear active wear a lot so although I know it’s more widespread now, it’s nothing new. It just shows more of us are taking care of our bodies and mental health through exercise nowadays.

faerietales · 06/05/2025 11:32

I pretty much live in leggings and t-shirts, plus sweaters or hoodies when it’s cold. I walk
dogs for a living so it’s a mix of comfort and practicality - but I also have no interest in fashion or following trends, I just wear what’s comfortable and what fits me.

Whoarethoseguys · 06/05/2025 11:35

Why critisised women who value comfort over fashion. Just leave them alone and don't look. They are dressing for themselves not you

Gettingbysomehow · 06/05/2025 11:47

It's even worse when men wear tight bumscrunch leggings. My eyes nearly fell out of my head.

Aliflowers · 06/05/2025 11:51

LeaveTaking · 05/05/2025 20:26

Maybe stop staring at people’s arses?

I always think there must be deep seated insecurity for people to go to this effort to talk about what complete strangers wear.

This.

Ao far this morning, I’ve done the school drop off, stripped the beds, hung out two washes, 6K with the dog, then spend an hour scrubbing the patio. Hardly going to do that in a twin set and pearls. I dress for comfort 90% of the time and I’m too old to give two shits what anyone else thinks of my “ath leisure”

Yep - I find it so unpleasant. Why do they care so much about the way other people dress?

I mean I’m a woman and I live in leggings but this I object to. Don’t care if I am being ‘sexist’, if this is true then society has gone too far!!!

mindutopia · 06/05/2025 12:15

I wear running tights (which I assume you would call ‘leggings’) quite regularly. I live on a farm and I can do the school run and quickly throw wellies on to go muck out or do some other chore. But not the Brazilian bum lift up the crack sort. The chickens don’t need to see that. 😂

Omg, I never made this connection but you're right.

I think I actually carry trauma from having to run round a field in royal blue gym knickers, my thighs covered in fresh, red stretch marks on display to all the boys (& other girls).

90's PE class fashion comeback.

Everintroverte · 06/05/2025 13:06

I took wear my leggings a lot - walking, running and sometimes when working from home. However, I don't think this is what the OP is referring too.

There are lots of women at the moment wearing lycra hot pants essentially that are so tight they ride up bums and create camel toe amongst all shapes and sizes of women. Was away on hols last week and there were loads of people wearing them. It's not a good look.

Booksandwine80 · 06/05/2025 13:12

I’m very often in gym gear as I’m either coming from the gym or heading there. I WFH so will often go to the gym at lunchtime.

I agree you need to stop staring at other women’s vulvas 😂

andtheworldrollson · 06/05/2025 13:56

It can be hard to avoid - you shouldn’t have to take evasive action to avoid seeing stuff like that - and yes I do tend to walk looking downwards

FancyLimePoet · 06/05/2025 14:14

I know the type you are specifically talking about. Gym bras, cycle shorts and scrunch bums.

My theory is that in places with better weather people can go to the beach etc to wear less and comfortable clothes,

We have such crappy weather and crappy shops that this is the lazy answer.

Also not a fan tbh. I recently saw a thread on Reddit about Doctors turning up to interviews in athletic leisure clothes. Didn’t go down well with the interviewer, but people were generally piling on to say what you wear isn’t important? So maybe I’m just old and times have changed 🤷🏻

ItsMsAtomicBobToYou · 06/05/2025 15:32

I live in sports clothes because I do a lot of sports. If you are noticing vulvas, it’s because you are staring at them. Stop being weird.

You don’t wear a twin set AT ALL TIMES? You are failing at womanhood!
