To be sick of the enduring athleisure trend?

Just that really! I’m so sick of seeing women in activewear leggings. And now that we’re having some better weather the shorts are out. I saw a woman today in a pair of butter yellow short, short, shorts which left nothing to the imagination. I’m sorry I don’t need to see every lump and bump on your behind and legs.

Go on.. tell me how miserable I am 🙄😂

I spend most of my time in colourful gym leggings and I DGAF what you think.

ItsUpToYou · 05/05/2025 21:07

How do you know whether people are on their way to/from the gym, a long walk or a jog when you see them dressed like this?

I know MN has always been full of judgement and misery but it seems to have peaked this Bank Holiday!

Changeyourlifes · 05/05/2025 21:08

Weird thing to get worked up over.

I basically live in sports clothing cause at any given point I might be on my way to the gym or Pilates or just want the option to go after running errands. To me it seems pointless making a trip to the city centre just to go to the shops, when I could also get some exercise in if that makes sense.

Getmoveon14 · 05/05/2025 21:12

I think the athleisure trend has annoyed me as I naively assume people are about to exercise and start to feel guilty that I'm not doing the same!

Justhere65 · 05/05/2025 21:14

I thought you would get roasted on here! But so true that we have become the least stylish country and athleisure wear is partly to blame. Look at the women in France, Spain and Italy and they dress much better than we do. Just general drop in standards in the UK sadly.

AllTheChaos · 05/05/2025 21:27

Does anyone remember when a US politician made a similar complaint, and loads of women went and worked out in their leggings on his front lawn? All the (straight) men I knew were very envious of him!

HuffleMyPuffle · 05/05/2025 21:27

Idaf if Britian is "stylish" or not. I'd rather be comfortable

BountifulPantry · 05/05/2025 21:33

Ladies in Cambodia wear colourful, patterned PJ sets when out and about.

Would that suit you better OP? 🤣

andtheworldrollson · 05/05/2025 21:55

People don’t dress for your pleasure ? Shock

PunchUpInPoplar · 05/05/2025 21:58

I love it. It’s comfy and easy.

I wish milkmaid dresses, puff sleeves and stupid frills would just fuck off forever, though.

Pickingmyselfup · 05/05/2025 22:18

Stretchy things are comfortable and practical and who needs to get dressed up to do boring jobs.

I'm very self conscious about my legs but knee length ones look even worse so I wear short non tight ones in the summer for day to day. When I'm running especially in the summer they leave little to the imagination and I'm afraid I don't have the legs for them but needs must. Last week I ran 13 miles but misjudged how far I was away from home so still had to walk the mile back. I'm sure if you had seen me you would have judged me for what I was wearing but there is no way I'm wearing leggings after February/March. Unfortunately despite all my efforts I can't get nicer legs or a nicer bum, I get fat spillage and I have cellulite everywhere.

If people with legs like mine want to get them out on a day to day basis then fair play, although bum cheeks really need to be covered.

Pyjamatimenow · 05/05/2025 22:22

Bugger off! It’s comfy!

Urgenthelplease · 05/05/2025 22:22

I live in Sydney and most people wearing these items look incredible so not sure what you're complaining about. If it's bigger women then surely there's more important things for you to focus on.

Maybe stop staring at people’s arses?

I always think there must be deep seated insecurity for people to go to this effort to talk about what complete strangers wear.

How much effort do you think it takes to talk about what someone is wearing? Confused

PoppyBaxter · 05/05/2025 22:26

I love my sports leggings. I regularly bounce from the gym, to a dog walk, to a hike, and it's just practical to wear them a lot of the time.
I love my bum, and don't care whether or not you do too.

ItGhoul · 05/05/2025 22:27

It’s so entitled/egotistical to think people should dress in clothes that you like to look at. People aren’t there to be decor for you.

If you don’t like a trend, don’t wear it. I’m not a fan of athleisure and I’m also not a fan of the Boden/Seasalt/FatFace/Hush look that half of Mumsnet seems to favour, but as I’m not obliged to wear those things it’s not a problem. Other people can and should dress as they please.

ItGhoul · 05/05/2025 22:30

Seymourscat · 05/05/2025 20:10

I hate it. Leggings and shorts right up your bum. Some women look naked. You can even see their vulva. It’s not a great look even if you had the perfect figure.

I have literally never seen a woman in leggings and noticed her vulva.

Ikeameatballs · 05/05/2025 22:32

DP did comment today at the supermarket that “everyone looks like they’ve just been, or are going to, the gym” so I agree it is ubiquitous but I do hope that’s because 1) women are confident to wear clothes that are practical and comfy 2) more people are getting active/exercising?

Personally I love a good thick sports legging with a side pocket for my phone!

40andlovelife · 05/05/2025 22:33

I wear active wear most days. Because I go to the gym or do a class most days. More women should try this instead of accepting being overweight.

Agree. Endless black and beige sportswear is shit

I can’t see why it bothers you what other people wear!

The French have got a bit of a thing where its considered by some, Probably the older ones, for it to be disrespectful to be wearing ugly clothing or look bad.

I sometimes find myself agreeing with them

FrangipaniBlue · 05/05/2025 22:35

I don’t understand the MN aversion to Athleisure wear…..

obviously I get dressed up if I’m going for a meal, to the cinema etc but just going about my daily life, walking the dog, ferrying the teen about or nipping to the shops? Leggings and a hoodie all day and you bet your life my legs are out now it’s sunny!
