Prince Harry and Brooklyn Beckham

Not a good look for our British families

The Beckhams’ once-flawless brand and PR machine have finally taken a dent.

Will Brooklyn be tempted to write a tell all or speak out, like Harry? Surely the Beckhams have their own skeletons, and you can bet the media will bait Brooklyn until he cracks.

Makes me feel somewhat better about my own dysfunctional family.

I feel for David though, his 50th will have been overshadowed by his son. Give, give, give and in return their first born cannot put differences aside to attend.

AIBU to think that parents who give their kids everything just end up creating entitled brats who are so detached from reality, add little to society and throw it all back in their poor parents faces. should there not be some kind of study, research or guidance on how to stop this happening. The world has enough problems.

It seems as if BB and his wife were in London but didnt show up for his party? Some sort of falling out with the wife maybe.

I.would imagine Brooklyn has had to experience growing up with two narcissistic parents, one of whom as a chronic and enduring eating disorder (victoria has admitted she has eaten the same dinner every single day for over twenty years), and has been thrown in the spotlight posing for family pictures.etc... to meet his parents vanity needs, from.a.v young age.

He's probably had enough. Has his own.life and own shit going on and didn't want to have to be an accessory for his parents by attending his dad's birthday bash.

I.dont.think the differencea.are.beyond reconciliation etc.. as long as Becks and posh give him some.space.

But it is likely v hard having the parents he's had.

I have little sympathy for harry. But at present, I do sympathise with Brooklyn

In the article about the wedding planner Brooklyn’s main contribution is “then a burger without bread wrapped in lettuce for the girls”

Grilled fish and vegetables 😂

it’s why she keeps breaking bones, a life time of anorexia. Poor woman

Thanks!
Yes it’s sad. Yet the world continues to promote unhealthy ideas around body image. Even on MN and among older women there can be a sanctimoniousness around low bmi.
The prettiest I have ever seen VB look is a photo of her pre Spice Girls.

Charlize43 · 05/05/2025 10:20

I kind of feel for them because both sons are caught up in having to live these very public, trashy lives continuously surrounded by a media circus.

If it was me, I would have changed my name and quietly moved to Uruguay.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 05/05/2025 10:23

That elephant photo will never not be funny!

In a way I feel sorry for Brooklyn, he's a walking example of all that's wrong with the nepo baby. Never encouraged to work for anything or get it on his own merit, wholly dependent on his surname and frankly a bit of a laughing stock.
Having said that I do also remember him turning up to the site of the Grenfell tower soon after the tragedy had occurred and bringing a bodyguard and a daily mail photographer with him. So he possibly is just a bit of a dick 🙄.

Pretty standard rich family stuff though isn’t it? Happens plenty without brand beckham and exposure to the media being responsible

I'd have expected one of them to go into marketing or fast fashion retail, like other rich kids though. To carry on Victoria's fashion business or the "family brand". There are plenty of business schools for clotted cream, they could have done really well and been more respected. Goodness knows they'd have the contacts. I'm surprised none of them seem to have work ethic, their parents have it in spades!

It's the tight knit families who are overbearing with their adult children and their spouses.

It's not always being overbearing, but I think people raised in such a family set up just want to spend a lot of time with their family and can't always understand that their partner might not.

I have cousins who are like this. They holiday together a lot, (they are in their 40s and 50s now) are close, have big family gatherings with all the DCs, its lovely to see them together but of the four sisters three of them have broken marriages and I don't think it's a coincidence. The fourth one is married to someone who travels a huge amount for work.

First dent?

Poor Rebecca Loos.

CathyorClaire · 05/05/2025 12:21

Has anyone read 'The House Of Beckham' by Tom Bower?

Quite the eye-opener 😮

CamillaMacauley · 05/05/2025 12:25

I have a dd the same age and ime at that age they very much want to be independent. More so for them I guess as they’re married and moved out. Dd still lives at home but has accused me of being over involved in her life. I’ve really had to reflect and respect this and back off big time. If I hadn’t I can imagine she’d feel really suffocated.

Funny because she’s moving out soon and I’ve just taken her to ikea at her request to buy her stuff. So she gives me mixed messages, I’m fine to be involved when it suits her. I really try and take a back seat and let her lead though.

Pedallleur · 05/05/2025 12:32

2 x people who have/will have it all. Youth, privilege, wealth. Yet somehow life isn't fair or they need more publicity. Don't actually do anything.

I know someone like this, except it's her friends, not cousins. They all cheat on their partners frequently/partners cheat too. She's doggedly loyal to her female friends and spends a lot of time on them, but has never had a solid relationship with a male partner.

I think it’s good you are aware of this and step back respectfully @CamillaMacauley especially as your DD creates her budding independence.

But longer term, don’t feel you need to be picked up and put down like a tool. Longer term she should work to develop a more respectful balance. There are many DD’s and Dils on here who are very protective of their “ boundaries” yet then seem happy for older relatives to step in when requested to. There is scope for exploitation of maternal love/ desire to be involved with gc etc.

Teado · 05/05/2025 14:44

Really weird that the Beckham boys have no work ethic when their parents and grandparents had plenty. I’d have expected David and Victoria to go down the route of giving them a great education and extracurricular stuff and then ensuring they stand on their own two feet. Bruce Springsteen’s son is a firefighter. Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's daughter was a nurse. Anna Wintour’s son is a doctor. Gordon Ramsay’s son is a Royal Marine. I’d have expected the Beckham children to end up like that tbh, not playing around. Hopefully the girl can break the trend …..but realistically you know just know she’s going to be “modelling” at age 16.

What difference does it make that they are privileged? Are you saying they don’t have the right to complain if they feel they have been treated poorly because they are well off?

Interesting to think about how they've been treated badly though. Not saying Harry and Brooklyn haven't but parental crappiness must surely be offset by the privilege to some extent?

Missing the point of the thread but how on earth do the beckhams square their lifestyle with their 13 year old daughters schooling?! She’s definitely at a school in london (I know which one and she’s def still there) but one of those (many) parties was mid-week in the Cotswolds… ok she could dash there in a fast car post-school but how on earth do you turn up on time and vaguely rested the next morning??! If her parents don’t mind then surely the school would mind as it must undermine them with other parents wanting to take little Josie out for holidays etc?

I realise I’m over thinking this 🤣 but DD is same age and I can’t imagine managing to live this lifestyle!

VickiFromAmsterdam · 05/05/2025 15:07

Nicola will write the book.

I think it’s priorities. If you only need them to turn up, sit in their school desk and be present it’s probably doable. If you want them to be understanding their maths it’s probably less so …

This must be it! Just can’t believe school are thrilled but maybe there are generous donations to future building projects which takes the irritation down a notch!

She also talks down re BB, in the leaked messages when she is snapping at the wedding planners telling them they ‘should have an assistant’ to find out Harpers age, insisting Brooklyn doesn’t know and he’s guessing.

I’m pretty sure he would know how old his sister was.

If he didn’t that’s quite alarming esp in a close fam. Poss a joke taken out of context?

Can I also add to your list Roger Taylor's (from Queen) daughter is a doctor, one of Jamie Oliver's daughters is training to be a nurse and Harrison Ford's son is a chef, who did it the old fashioned way of working his way up through kitchens. Not deciding that he was and going on telly to show the world how to make a cheese sandwich. Also his parents are BFFs with Gordon Ramsay, surely he could just ask him for training or work experience. Yet another perk most people aren't subject to (that said I'd love to hear Gordon's honest take on chef Brooklyn!).

Harper has already done some online make up tutorial things recently. I didn't watch them but I remember a few eyebrows being raised by the press, so she's definitely being set up to carry on Brand Beckham.
