Absolutely sick of neighbour’s kids

Now that it’s warmer weather my neighbours kids have been so annoying.

Firstly they will repeatedly kick the football over multiple times a day, I don’t bother opening the door now and chuck it back days later.

Football is kicked near my living room window and the mom says nothing.

They frequently even throw things in my front yard now.

They play loudly outside my house and often coming onto my driveway.

Put bikes up against our cars (have frequently told them to stop).

What really annoyed me is that for last week they have been off school with illness and they still did my door (I ignored it) which I think is bad mannered with the parents knowing I have young toddlers at home.

AIBU to just ignore the door now and keep the balls?

There seems to be no end to it, as the Ringdoor bell wakes my young toddlers up.

big fence, prickly shrubs, net your garden, big dog , if all else fails move!

TisILeClair · 03/05/2025 20:00

Get rid of your loud doorbell? Do you complain when a delivery driver or postman rings it? Put a gate in your fence so the kids can come and get the ball without bothering you?

arcticpandas · 03/05/2025 20:04

We got our neighbour boys out in the garden as well playing football at all times. It's exhausting and we have to close all windows.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 03/05/2025 20:09

... at least they are not putting up a goal in the shared front garden half covering your window! This happened to us and when we said something we got their bins instead to make room for the goal elsewhere.
Not helpful, but unfortunately with 2 toddlers it will be your DC annoying the neighbours in a few years.

Are you the neighbours 😂

Mickeychampionwhatgoodami · 03/05/2025 20:21

Leaning bike's against cars is a no no and does show lack of respect for others.
Wouldn't have dreamt of doing that my mum and dad would've went nuts at me.

Velmy · 03/05/2025 20:31

Leaning bikes on your car is a massive no-no, have you spoken to the parents about this? I expect they'd want to know, as it'll be them footing the bill for any damage.

Football over the fence though, what can you do? Kids always have and always will kick balls in the garden. Again, maybe speak to the parents about the kids not ringing the bell and waking your kids up, and tell them that you'll put the balls back over when you're next in the garden.

When we were young, our neighbors let my dad lift up a fence panel so we could get our ball back without bothering them. Anything like that possible?

caffelattetogo · 03/05/2025 20:42

Absolutely not on. I never kicked anything into a neighbours’ garden as a kid - my mum would have gone mad. Some rubbish parents out there.

rubicustellitall · 03/05/2025 20:44

burst a couple of balls, hand them back as is,that should foster a bit more consideration!

localnotail · 03/05/2025 20:48

Pop the ball with a knife before throwing it over. That will learn them.

hahahaa, great minds and all that!

LimitedBrightSpots · 03/05/2025 20:52

Tell them balls in your garden will be collected and returned once a week and they'll have to wait until then so don't bother ringing your doorbell.

what????? no way!

godmum56 · 03/05/2025 21:00

Have you spoken to the parent(s)?

Kilroyonly · 03/05/2025 21:01

If my kids behaved this way I would be furious; sadly there are too many entitled people who don’t care how their behaviour affects others. You’re a better person than I am by throwing their balls back. Throw a cup of water at them or take their bikes when unattended.

I hope this is being said in jest, these are children being spoken about here. The OP's children could very well end up being annoying themselves to the neighbours, one day, as a pp has already pointed out.

In jest absolutely not. Kids should not be allowed free rein to cause distress to people or damage their property. I assume your comment was made in jest

queenofwandss · 03/05/2025 21:23

I think there’s a line. Bikes on the cars = no. Balls over fence = to be expected and you aren’t obligated to return the ball soon/ever. Speak to parents and get the kids to stop ringing/knocking for the ball back.

To be honest, it sounds nice that the kids are safe enough to play out and personally I think we need more of that for children’s health than them being cooped up inside being “quiet and good”, but that’s just me!

No, certainly not. I am also not one for advocating unacceptable acts against young children, or stealing their property. Hth.

mumda · 03/05/2025 21:34

Gooseberry bushes in the front garden.

Or Worcesterberry. They're much more prickly

It’s not stealing actually, I have done this & police called. If property is abandoned on your property then no crime..I was very happy to hear that

NC28 · 03/05/2025 21:36

The throwing things in your garden - throw it right back.

The bikes on your cars - stand the bikes up, walk them to the edge of your driveway and give them a push onto the road outside. Leave them lying there, and hopefully someone will drive over the top of them.

No doubt that you were. I don't know, my next door neighbour's son's football used to come over the fence, sometimes several times a day. I am not saying that it could not be taxing sometimes, but he is a child, and we had to get along together.

MoominMai · 03/05/2025 21:44

Oh gawd, I can’t imagine wfh and constantly having ball come over in kids holidays. I’m v lucky I live next door a retired couple but they do look after their baby GC so maybe it’s just a matter of time for me too! 😅
