Glitter Tattoo at school

My DD has just turned 5 on Thursday, for her birthday my sister did a little glitter tattoo on her arm. When her school cardigan was on it wasn’t noticeable but at some point in the day she must have taken it off. The teacher pulled me aside at the end of the day and said she’s not allowed glitter tattoos and it has to be gone for Tuesday.

My issue is following Eid and before Easter holidays 2 little girls in her class came back to school for the last few days with Henna, which to me is the same vibe as a glitter tattoo. This was on their arms and hands so noticeable even with cardigans on. I know the mum well and know they never said anything about the Henna.

AIBU to think it’s not very fair that Henna is okay but Glitter Tattoos aren’t? Should I ask the school more about this policy?

DH thinks Henna is probably fine as it’s “cultural”.

So one family can take a day off school and have their version of temporary tattoo for a religion they otherwise don’t participate in (mum goes to church, the kids are baptised etc.)
Maybe we should all start celebrating Eid so we can all access the more relaxed rules - doesn’t seem like religion is relevant as they aren’t Muslim!

You claim to complaining about the school not allowing glitter tattoos, but you're not really are you? Rather than pretending it's all about a glittery tattoo, why don't you start a threat about being unhappy with the school accommodating Eid celebrations and see how that goes...?

TruthJoin · 03/05/2025 18:35

Don't be offended by my way of seeing the funny side of things

EmeraldLily · 03/05/2025 18:36

JFC this can not be real surely????

Yes the father is Muslim - but the children are baptised, attend a church school and dad isn’t involved!

And? Our two don’t cut their hair, they follow the kesh, they still partake in the small bit of Judaism their papa does. A bit odd to also claim they shouldn’t celebrate Eid because they’re British, do you think Muslims aren’t British?

TruthJoin · 03/05/2025 18:37

I just find it funny that world war 3 was started because of a glitter tattoo.

You are racist as fuck and I'm deeply sorry for your 5 year old being raised by you.

Poor kid.

Missedthis · 03/05/2025 18:41

Except you know it’s not about the glitter tattoo.

Birds of a feather, though…

Snorlaxo · 03/05/2025 18:42

This thread will get more sympathetic replies on X.

Millions of people participate in the social side of religion without believing. For example Christmas, christenings Some friend you are criticising her for the henna when she’s a Christian.

Just remember to get your sister to place the glitter tattoo somewhere hidden by clothes next year.

Thankyou for your observational points

TruthJoin · 03/05/2025 18:47

I refuse to be part of a religion that cannot mirror read , eid haha

PinkFitzpatrick · 03/05/2025 18:47

It’s not at all worth kicking off over, but if I was going to mention it I would go with the “how does this in any way affect her education?” angle, not bringing the henna into it. Tbh that comment makes you come across as racist because of the “”

Both should be allowed, because neither impact the children’s education! I am a big hater of these ridiculous school rules.

noctilucentcloud · 03/05/2025 18:49

OP you are being ridiculous. The two things are not at all comparable. Remove the glitter tattoo for Tuesday (it'll have been on for several days anyway) and tell your daughter she can have another during the school holidays.

Ghrace · 03/05/2025 18:28

Yes the father is Muslim - but the children are baptised, attend a church school and dad isn’t involved!

So their mum is doing exactly what any good mum would do and is exposing them to the religion / religious practices / culture of their family heritage . Don’t be so ridiculous @Ghrace , the teacher has told you it needs removing so remove it .

Because as far as I know you don’t need Henna to celebrate Eid anymore than you need a glitter tattoo to celebrate a Birthday?

If that’s as far as you know, maybe educate yourself?

Oh, you don’t just come across as racist. You ARE racist. Gross. I hope you spill baby oil all over your carpets when cleaning the glitter tattoo off and it leaves a stain

TruthJoin · 03/05/2025 18:53

We all know that daslid is the only true religion anyway

Snapplepie · 03/05/2025 18:54

The mum is trying to maintain a connection to the other side of the kids heritage. It's important that they understand their background and for kids, celebrations are a great way to do that. The henna has a meaning that a glitter tattoo just doesn't. It really isn't the same. If you go to the school with the arguments youve made in this post, it won't change anything. Glitter tattoos will still be banned, henna will still be allowed. But, at best you'll look a bit thick, at worst, like a racist. It doesn't seem worth it.

Zezet · 03/05/2025 18:54

First I wondered why cultural was in " " but then I realized you are a deeply respected authority on said culture and in a position to correct both the people in question and the school on the matter. Hurray!

They are culturally Muslim though by the sound of it...

You sound very intolerant and rude

Congratulations OP
I am actually impresssed that you have managed to turn a 5 year olds glitter tattoo into a thread complaining about Muslims

Edited

Jesus, stop trying to twist things to make out she is racist…..some people try and read racism in everything?!?

DarkLion · 03/05/2025 18:58

I’m actually embarrassed for you op lol. Showing what a racist bigot you are, what a great example to set to your daughter

You seem obsessed with this mum and her attendance at church and knowing the ins and outs of her and her children’s religious beliefs. Even if dad isn’t involved, that is part of their identity so what a great mum she is, celebrating diversity and their identity, unlike you
