Glitter Tattoo at school

Ghrace · 03/05/2025 18:02

My DD has just turned 5 on Thursday, for her birthday my sister did a little glitter tattoo on her arm. When her school cardigan was on it wasn’t noticeable but at some point in the day she must have taken it off. The teacher pulled me aside at the end of the day and said she’s not allowed glitter tattoos and it has to be gone for Tuesday.

My issue is following Eid and before Easter holidays 2 little girls in her class came back to school for the last few days with Henna, which to me is the same vibe as a glitter tattoo. This was on their arms and hands so noticeable even with cardigans on. I know the mum well and know they never said anything about the Henna.

AIBU to think it’s not very fair that Henna is okay but Glitter Tattoos aren’t? Should I ask the school more about this policy?

DH thinks Henna is probably fine as it’s “cultural”.

If it was just that then OP wouldn't be then going on about how these girls aren't Muslim enough

I suppose she's just trying to say the Henna isn't absolutely necessary like it would be to a practicing Muslim? (I don't actually know if it's compulsory for practicing Muslims or not tbh). Maybe I am just trying to see the best in the OP

Maybe be more resilient and not so easily offended / over sensitive…..some people really do want to read racism into everything even when it isn’t there

Lots of reasons glitter is not allowed in schools (well-known - ecological, an EU wide ban, known allergies)… OP’s first port was to comment on henna getting a ‘cultural’ pass.

Come on - it’s clearly racism. And ill-informed because Hindis use henna too.

Tell me you’re also racist without…

Stop being ridiculous, I am capable of being a reasonable logical thinker which clearly you are not, stop trying to read racism / accuse people of being racists when they are not
I refuse to pander to this kind of nonsense

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/05/2025 19:51

Why are you fussing about this when the teacher is apparently having to tell you to wash your child at some point in the following four days?

Accusing people of being racist when they are not…..I have reported you to MN

People on here are so self righteous, I don’t believe they are really like this irl at all so I largely ignore this nonsense

I mean, she referred to the children as “mixed”.

Not even mixed race.

Just “mixed”

Sounds pretty racist to me.

There’s nothing logical about your thinking.

Because her comments are worrying

Oh for god sake?!?!
What nonsense

Hope the Daily mail doesn't pick this up or Mumsnet put it on their FB feed. It's very identifying 😵‍💫

Mum and I get the bus together with the kids, I asked on the bus if they had an issue with her kids Henna and she said no the teacher just said it looked beautiful.

Get Henna tatoos for your DD and see what the teacher says. Put some glitter in them as well. Say you have converted to Islam and nobody will dare say anything.

It’s really not nonsense. If you had any experience of dual heritage families, you’d know that.

Frostynoman · 03/05/2025 20:04

God you’re that person.

Stop being a bigot and get that glitter tattoo off their arm.

Better yet, try your argument at school and tell us the result.

do better OP.

xmasdealhunter · 03/05/2025 20:05

@arcticpandas you do know that other religions use henna too? Glitter tattoos are like nail polish. Not linked to any religion, not cultural.

You’re right. And it’s brought out all the supporters.

If you're aggrieved by having to comply with school rules at age 5, you have a long and difficult 10+ years ahead.

Congratulations OP
I am actually impresssed that you have managed to turn a 5 year olds glitter tattoo into a thread complaining about Muslims

Edited

OP’s got a career ahead of her with the Daily Mail, assuming she isn’t already employed by them.

We can agree to disagree then

GreenWheat · 03/05/2025 20:17

Oh good grief, the glitter tattoo will have worn off by Tuesday anyway so you won't even need to remove it. Your DD went to school with a non permitted decoration. You were asked not to do it again and it will be gone next time she goes in. That is all.

They aren’t really unless you are actively looking to read certain things into it
