Homemade pizza is not healthy, we’re having a proper dinner.

Dc playing with a neighbour friend, I asked if they wanted to help make homemade pizzas and stay for dinner and to check with the mum.
He came back and said that he wasn’t allowed, my Dc asked ‘Aww, why not?’ and he said that his mum said it wasn’t healthy and that she’d make a proper dinner.

We do this sometimes on Friday/Saturday, Dc enjoy the activity and choosing toppings-passata, mozzarella, mushrooms, peppers, spinach and so on to make funny pizza faces, is this massively unhealthy?!

Nope.

AquaPeer · 03/05/2025 16:38

It’s not unhealthy (or particularly healthy) but maybe mum just prefers a meal with more variety and nutrition. She didn’t say it was massively unhealthy herself!

bit rude but you know how kids repeat things they shouldn’t

Or the mum has a massive stick up her arse.

Fearfulsaints · 03/05/2025 16:41

I don't think it's unhealthy. It's nothing like shop bought pizza in terms of salt and sugar (normally)

Does she know you’re making it with fresh vegetables?

A lot can get ‘lost in translation’.

Haha well no not objectively but I can imagine telling my kid something like “not today love, you had pizza yesterday and goujons and chips the day before so
you need to come home and eat veg” and it being translated somewhat like that!

Abend · 03/05/2025 16:44

Home made pizza can be reasonably healthy or very unhealthy, depending on what sort of base it is and what/hod much topping is used. It's generally healthier than many bought in pizzas.

He definitely wanted to come as said ‘Yes!’ when we asked him and asked to check with mum

Kid probably just told his mum pizza. Mum thought - dominos.

Or the mum has already planned/made dinner, has people coming over or just doesn’t want her kid mooching off others all the time

Noone will ever know!

Didn’t think needed to mention that, didn’t seem like a big deal, just said we’re making homemade pizzas 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d presume mum said, “nah you’ve had a lot of pizza/freezer food etc this week so I’m cooking something proper tonight” and it got a bit twisted.

At least I hope that’s what it was!

tartyflette · 03/05/2025 16:47

Well, pizza does have a less than healthy reputation. Quite unfairly, IMO, but the anti-carb freaks people have taken against it.
What with all the veg the OP was planning it looks quite good to me. Mozzarella is not a high fat cheese, either.

Summerwillbesoshortthisyear · 03/05/2025 16:47

Yes maybe 😂

Why? My Dc waa just excited to do it with him, wasn’t meant rudely at all. It wasn’t said to the mum, just to the friend
