Why can’t Harry just pay for his own private security?

jennylamb1 · 03/05/2025 14:36

Don’t get it. He says that he can’t ever visit the UK again because his security won’t be provided. Loads of celebrities and high profile business people pay for their own security, why should tax payers pay for his security when he isn’t a working royal anymore?

This thread has now demonstrated the damage Harry’s thoughtless and false words have on our country, I’m amazed that so many people have no idea about the basic workings of our government, our parliament and our monarchy.
although lack of knowledge in these areas is not a failing as it does not matter in day to day lives, it does when people are making false statements and claims about things they know nothing about.

If this carries on I think the government will actually have to get involved as Harry cannot continue attacking the uk without any consequences.

Remove the titles and him and his DCs from the line of succession and then they won’t need security as they are no longer relevant to the U.K.

it won’t happen but goodness that is the only way to stop him. He’ll go nuclear but I don’t know what else to suggest.

So even ex prime ministers get full time secruity for life on less than two months public service? Get real, he's a target. He might be as mad as a bag of fogs but he didn't choose to be a Royal.
All this nonsense about being JHs child is codswalop, look at a portrait of Henry the eighth!
He is a blabbering fool but he didn't have good role models. His father was bullied, his mother was coerced. Tbh if I was him I'd come home, seek a suitable safe house and get out there smiling for the plebs. Better than flogging a dead horse. The USA has not worked for them. He has a lot to offer if he engaged a good set of advisers. All the Royal family needs fresh counsel.

You know the connection to Henry the 8th is quite dilute don’t you? The crowns bounced around a lot and Queen Victoria may have been a bastard? Hence the sudden haemophilia?

I dont think KC wants any harm to come to him. I think it’s more likely he barely gives him a thought. Just an irritant he wishes he could forget about.

I have no idea. I have no window into his psyche and wouldn't care to judge a person like that.
However. This is about security, which is determined by other people, so Harry is clearly well looked after.

Livelovebehappy · 03/05/2025 18:58

He doesn’t like the UK. He doesn’t even like the Royal family - father and sibling, so why go through all this when the chances are he will not be coming back here to visit anyway? And I doubt that Meghan and the children will ever set foot in the UK again. Just seems a lot of drama about something that’s not going to happen anyway.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/05/2025 18:59

LBFseBrom
To this day the people at Scotland Yard say had they been looking after Princess Diana, what happened would not have happened, for a start she wouldn't have got into that car and secondly there would have been a team of security which would have kept the harassing paparazzi away.

I didn't realise that Scotland Yard ran the police and security in Paris.

I don't think it is at all unreasonable for Harry to have the same security as the rest of his royal family if he visits the UK.

And that is what he has. When he is on a Royal engagement he automatically has security protecting him; when he isn't, he doesn't, any more than Anne or Edward or any of the other children or siblings of a monarch when they are not doing something for the royal family. If there is a known credible threat against one of them, any one of them including Harry, they get the protection; when there isn't, they don't.

He just wants to have more than any of the rest; he wants to be a First Class Royal like the heir to the throne while eg Anne is only second class.

When the Pope visited, it was in a bullet proof vehicle. It still cost us £12 million.

That's disgusting. The Catholic Church is FULL of riches!

Yes, I think if the UK govt are concerned about security, something will have to be done.
Harry just keeps sprouting nonsense, which is fine if it's about his todger or sausages, but he's starting to talk dangerous nonsense about the Head of State and security services. He really is a cause for concern.
I wish he'd find some sort of job or fulfilling hobby. It's really not good

You said:
”no one can tell me what’s wrong with Harry’s security arrangements”

Presumably as some kind of flex to prove how unreasonable Harry is.

but how could anyone do so?

You're talking in circles and trying to make this personal, so I'm not sure it's worth the bother.

I've told you what Harry's security arrangements are, or at least what is known to the general public. Harry seems to think they are unreasonable, hence his failed court case. To me they seem perfectly fair, and in line with what is the policy for those who, like Harry, belong to RAVEC's 'Tier Two' category of individuals. It's hardly a 'flex', whatever that is, to say that Harry claiming otherwise is unreasonable, given that his case has been thrown out of court twice.

Do you disagree with the judges?

I am 😱 that anyone thought Charles has been a loving father. He’s barely even been present.
I’ve nothing against the bloke and there is clearly a huge amount of generational trauma in the royal family which would’ve made loving parenting very hard but he’s nothing like what I consider to be a loving father

Harry detailed many loving moments in his own book ( in between the rubbish!)
if you are taking his words as gospel in one case then you have to take them all!

lizzyBennet08 · 03/05/2025 19:03

I thought it was very clear that Harry resented having to go ‘cap in hand ‘ for the security to the very grey suits type that he detests so much as he mentioned that a number of times during interview. The royal representative on the board is the person who advises ravec on the schedules and diaries of the royal family. This means in effect that Harry would never be able to slip in without his family being aware . I get it to a degree and you would wonder what would happen if he wanted to return on a private visit for something the royal machine didn’t agree with . Would it be denied in that instance.

Having said all that. As the judge said he felt ravec took a sensible approach. Surely even Harry has to agree that it’s impractical to have to have a team of 30 ish ppo on standby on the chance that Harry and his family wish to visit on the spur of the moment. I felt it was as much about status for Harry as the protection itself because it’s clearly a nonsense to say that it would be too dangerous to go to uk with his family without police protection and only private security which 99% of celebrities use and manage to avoid the killing fields in London.

suburberphobe · 03/05/2025 19:03

England. Still living in feudal times with class systems. Even in 2025. OMG.

I thought it was sweet the way Charles kept calling him "Darling Boy" and leaving him notes saying he loved him and was proud of him. Some really nice moments. Bit of a weird book otherwise.

Yes, he doesn’t have any direct descendants. Or rather, if he does they are from illegitimate children and nothing to do with Harry.

Henry VIII’s sister maybe, through her marriage to James IV of Scotland. But that line goes to Diana’s family anyway I think, as well as the royal family. So I’m not sure similarity to a portrait of Henry VIII proves much.

Although I do think obviously Harry is Charles’s son. I think he looks like Zara - I saw a picture of her once in a woolly hat and pulled up scarf and it was just like Harry.

Eh? I said I don't know the specifics for each hypothetical future case because that would be impossible. But I do know the general arrangements, because they have been public knowledge for some time.

Isn't that enough? That's what Tier 2 individuals get. What more would you expect the general public to know?

Anyway Harry fans on here can argue against the facts until they are blue in the face it won’t make a jot of difference, it has been made abundantly clear in the British courts that his case has been dismissed, Harry will have to go away, lick his wounds and accept the fact he just isn’t as important as he thinks he is and that his current security arrangements are valid.

Unless it's through one of the other lines maybe! Afaik there's no known descendants of Henry Fitzroi, the only one he acknowledged, but there could've been any number of others. Especially if they'd been girls.

Agree Harry has a clear family resemblance with his dad's side. Him and 30s Phillip are absolute twins.

How can private security in the UK protect you? They aren't even armed?

That’s not true entirely - the circumstances are v outing but I know of someone with personal armed bodyguards, they have an agreement with the local police force etc who have authorised them to carry the weapons legitimately.

Nobody on mn can possibly tell anyone about the top secret security details of royals , politicians and diplomats, because obviously it’s …. Top secret!! 🙄

Harassedevictee · 03/05/2025 19:15

For me what really came over was H not liking members of the Royal Household sitting on RAVEC and being part of the process.

He appears to really resent that he has to inform contact(s) in the Royal Household to request and discuss his security requirements and can’t talk to other members of RAVEC directly. That is about process not the level of security.

I suspect he doesn’t want KC, PW or their staff being notified of his plans so by not having a direct link to RAVEC he is obliged to let the Royal Household know.

Mary Boleyn (Anne Boleyn’s sister) had a daughter who was rumoured to be fathered by Henry (part of the plot of The Other Boleyn Girl actually but believed to true although there’s no solid proof I don’t think). Anyway she is a direct descendant of the Queen and therefore Charles and Harry.

Yes that’s what I meant, any direct descendants (and they could easily exist, he was hardly a model of fidelity) are nothing to do with the current RF.

Apologies, bit of a historical derail I know!

Harry didn't ask to be born Royal did he. Celebritities generally have a choice.

It's not up to Charles. Harry is lying about this.

Either lying or is deluded enough to actually believe there is a vendetta against him by his father.
