To hate this weather....

I think most people get depressed in winter I am the opposite!! Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the hot weather BUT I feel like everyone is out living their best life's at the beach or in pubs with friends while I live out groundhog day.... Work, pick children up from school, dinner tidy up baths and beds..... That's my life and the sun just makes me so desperate for a social life! In reality I know everyone is probably doing the same old same old but in my head everyone's having fun in the sun except me! Tell me how unreasonable I am being lol

I love it too. Just seeing the sunshine cheers me up, I live in a very built up area but I still find somewhere green to go for a walk everyday.
But I used to be obese and summer was really miserable then, now I'm much more heat tolerant (downside is winters feel colder without the protective layer of blubber!).

Im not a fan of all these big swings in temperature though. Going from 28c tomorrow to 12c 3 days later is unreasonable.....I'd really like some time to adjust! Sadly there is no manager to complain to about this issue.😁

Hammy19 · 30/04/2025 20:45

Only time I've seen the sun is to hang the laundry out 😂

terracelane23 · 30/04/2025 20:45

I work outside and love this weather. I’d take this over working outside at zero degrees any day.

RampantIvy · 30/04/2025 20:56

GoldfinchFeather · 30/04/2025 20:37

Whattt?

This time of the year is the best. We've just had daffodil and blossom season, now there's bluebells in the woods, lambs boinging around in fields, ducklings on the rivers and canals, near constant beautiful birdsong and butterflies in the air, not to mention ever lighter evenings and being able to go outside without being dressed up in several layers.

I suppose if you live in a city centre it's easy to miss most of these things, but if you live more rurally, I have no idea why you'd prefer the misery of particularly late autumn and winter to this time of year!

I suspect that most of the MN summer haters tend to live in built up areas and commute to a hot office on public transport that has no aircon. I think a lot of them also have noisy and inconsiderate neighbours.

Like you we are rural and have seen tiny lambs bouncing about in the fields, a wonderful display of bluebells in the woods, loads of colourful candles on the horse chestnuts and enjoyed the wonderful birdsong right now. I like not having to layer up every time I leave the house, but I will be back to that by the weekend.

Not wishing to rub salt in heat haters wounds, but my aircon office is so chilly I wore a cardigan to keep warm and went outside at lunchtime to warm up.

Yes, on reflection I can quite understand not enjoying this time of year in a built up city, given how hot such places get.

Fortunately I'm lucky to be somewhere I can appreciate everything spring has to offer - and I always feel so much happier and healthier when we 'come out the tunnel of winter' as my mum calls it.

Spring is such a joyful season, far more than dreaded Christmas in my opinion.

@mumofoneAlonebutokay it's WH Smith for me. Even though I never set foot in there at any other point in the year, during the change from summer to autumn I get an insatiable urge to rush in and clear the shelves of pens, highlights and a compass and protractor set that I would never end up using anyway!

With the exception of Liz Hurley and BRC it all seems to be a bit empty on the gossip front right now 😞. Maybe everyones gone on holiday.

I know the staff are used to people browsing the stationary because 'autumn' 😄

It has been kinda quiet tbh, but I'm a patient woman

I don't know why but I always get a cold when the temperature shoots up, lasts about 2 weeks and it's gone and I feel much better but I do always get a summer cold.
I used to love the heat more when I lived by the coast, it's not so nice inland imo.

Coconutter24 · 30/04/2025 21:24

I love autumn/winter, I hate the heat it doesn’t agree with me.YABU though to think everyone is out having fun and you’re the only one at work and on school runs

Yanbu! September 1st is my New Year and i live for autumn and winter 🎃🎄🎆

Just need to get through this pesky summer 🥺

I love September /Autumn but always get what i think is SAD in Jan/Feb.
Can you tell me why you love Winter and what do you do that makes you love it,thanks x

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 30/04/2025 21:29

Also hay fever is hammering me right now. That's one thing A/W has going for it. Even cold/flu/COVID looks more appealing at the moment.

WeylandYutani · 30/04/2025 21:33

I don't like it. I have the SAD that is triggered by the lighter/warmer months.

Gettingbysomehow · 30/04/2025 21:54

I usually detest summer becsuse I am boiling and uncomfortable and wearing too many clothes.
This is the first year in 30 years I've been slim. I can put on a pair of summer trousers and a teashirt and go.
I finally feel free. Thank you mounjaro.

RampantIvy · 30/04/2025 22:07

It has been a bad spring for hayfever. DD has really been struggling and even I am on daily antihistamines. I have every sympathy for hayfever sufferers.

🤣 I'm imagining the lambs going boing boing boing as they jump around the field 😊

BeautifulFacesAndLoudEmptyPlaces · 30/04/2025 22:17

YANBU. There is no right or wrong, some people enjoy warmer weather and others don’t. I don’t really like warm weather, my ideal is about 20 degrees, especially now I’m going through peri menopause. 🥵

Bloody hell it’s not even May and someone has already said they like being cosy. Has anyone said “snuggle” yet?

"Snuggle". There you go 🤓

tillyandmilly · 30/04/2025 22:21

I caught a few rays on my balcony at lunch - working from - home perfect temp at 22 degrees - if over 25 degrees gives me a migraine!

BitOutOfPractice · 30/04/2025 22:22

Erm thanks @SunnieShine…I think!

CleverMintHedgehog · 30/04/2025 22:25

I’m happy with 20C, anything higher I don’t enjoy. Our house gets really warm, currently still got 24C in the bedroom with window now open (curtains closed all day) so it’s not fun. At least if I’m cold I can wrap up, when I’m hot im hot!
I’m wfh and the “office” is also getting ridiculously hot - and we have a “camera always on” policy so need to be appropriately dressed 🙈.

I don't think there is such a thing as SAD from warmer weather and lighter evenings. It's a scientific fact that being in sunlight helps your brain release more serotonin, which helps boost people's moods.

It's when there's such little sunlight in autumn/winter that SAD affects people.

Well, I plunge into deep depression at the start of the summer. Always have done.
I know several others who do too. And there have been threads on here about it.

RampantIvy · 30/04/2025 22:51

I think a summer version of SAD exists. The "I hate summer" threads on MN mention it frequently.

I get the winter version and simply don't get why people would prefer to sit under a blanket in the dark rather than enjoy a nice sunny and warm day.

I love being outdoors and pottering in my garden in nice weather. I feel more comfortable when wearing fewer clothes and don't have to get bundled up to feel warm.
