I think most people get depressed in winter I am the opposite!! Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the hot weather BUT I feel like everyone is out living their best life's at the beach or in pubs with friends while I live out groundhog day.... Work, pick children up from school, dinner tidy up baths and beds..... That's my life and the sun just makes me so desperate for a social life! In reality I know everyone is probably doing the same old same old but in my head everyone's having fun in the sun except me! Tell me how unreasonable I am being lol

I think the proportion of people out enjoying the weather may be lower than you think.

I am OK with the weather, what is a national disgrace is how some people dress when the temperature is above 20C. Noticeable how the most stylish person at work today is French.

WhiteRosesAndThistles · 30/04/2025 19:18

Where I live, summer last year was constantly 13° and raining, mostly raining hard. I wore my wool jumpers and jeans all year.
By the time winter properly started I was so down. No sunny days out with the kids, no sitting in a beer garden with my husband and friends....just constant bloody cold and rain.
I love this weather, even looking out at it from my office window is lovely. I've been out since I got home watering my beautiful flowers, the dogs stay clean on their walks! I hope it stays like this until September (yes I know it goes downhill at the weekend 😔)

What were they wearing? I'd love to be stylish in the heat but, once I start moving, my hair doesn't look good. Plus, pasty so can't just slip on a cotton summer dress with nice sandals.

UndermyShoeJoe · 30/04/2025 19:30

Now I’m not stylish at all but today I “rocked” a pony and linen type wrap dress with sandals. And used chub rub stick on my chunky thighs. Definitely cooler than the days wearing more synthetic or clingy materials and I love a cheapo outfit.

Allswellthatendswelll · 30/04/2025 19:33

It makes me nostalgic for my 20s living in London where I'd be straight in a beer garden. Whereas now in my 30s battling small children into bed!

Anything over 23 degrees is too hot for me unless I'm next to a body of water I can swim in. I quite like a 18-20 degree summers day with a light evening!

I'm totally the same. September 1st feels more like a new year than the actual new year. And I still get the urge to buy a new pencil case.

But I also like being able to go out in just the clothes I've got on without having to assemble coats, hats and so on. And right now I'm loving getting my washing dry outside.

So basically I want it all ways!

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta 🖐💕 my fellow gossip lover

😄 yeah, i get the intrinsic pull to Tesco Extra (formerly Wilkos, rip) to check out the pens

I know what you mean, just popping on one layer of clothing and being ready to leave the house has been amazing - it just gets too hot 🥺

Comedycook · 30/04/2025 19:34

Vast majority of people aren't lounging in the park or at the beach... they're working in offices, shops, schools, hospitals.. taking care of their kids etc etc

BitOutOfPractice · 30/04/2025 19:36

Bloody hell it’s not even May and someone has already said they like being cosy. Has anyone said “snuggle” yet?

Kathbrownlow · 30/04/2025 19:42

Can you plan a picnic in the park with your kids one day over the weekend, OP? Maybe see if a couple of their friends want to come? Maybe ask if the parents want to come too?

Itsjustgonenoonhalfpastmonsoon · 30/04/2025 19:44

I live in the south east which is the driest part of the country. It does niggle me when people over analyse the weather down here and imply it is mostly bad. It isn’t, but they don’t appreciate how fortunate they are.

We need rain just as much as sun. I wish the weather forecasters wouldn’t be so apologetic about a bit of rain. A “risk of showers” is what they like to say. What blooming risk? Getting a bit wet is not risky!

I like the warm weather as much as the next person but I don’t go overboard and obsessive over it.

Feelingmuchbetter · 30/04/2025 19:45

You can enjoy the gorgeous weather op. Pack up a picnic after school and go to the park after school. Invite their friends. Fire up the bbq! Have an aperol spritz in the garden. If you have friends a spontaneous night out or invite them over.

JifNtGif · 30/04/2025 19:48

Mumsnet much prefer dark crisp autumn days with a cosy jumper on and book by the fire while DDog flops on the rug and a hot jacket potato with lashings of cheese and beans bakes itself.

ohyesido · 30/04/2025 19:56

Sweat, bugs. Not a fan

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 30/04/2025 20:03

@mumofoneAlonebutokay it's WH Smith for me. Even though I never set foot in there at any other point in the year, during the change from summer to autumn I get an insatiable urge to rush in and clear the shelves of pens, highlights and a compass and protractor set that I would never end up using anyway!

With the exception of Liz Hurley and BRC it all seems to be a bit empty on the gossip front right now 😞. Maybe everyones gone on holiday.

Chipsahoy · 30/04/2025 20:05

Move to Scotland. It’s been a lovely 21c here all day. Just been out for a walk and it is now about 17c and I could put a light jumper on. Perfect.

Ladymuck2022 · 30/04/2025 20:05

I keep being told it is beautiful out there. (stuck in a hospital)

To go for a stroll right now would be heaven.

Amba1998 · 30/04/2025 20:06

It’s a Wednesday. I don’t know anyone today who’s been at a beach or living their best life today. Everyone know has been in the office, making dinner, bathing children, putting a wash on, commuting etc.

Its bloody lovely though and hope it stays for the weekend

RampantIvy · 30/04/2025 20:08

I agree, also inappropriate clothes for the weather. Often the summer haters complain that they don't like wearing summer clothes so they fester in jumpers and jeans, then complain even more about being too hot.

I wore a floaty summer dress and sandals to work today and was perfectly comfortable. I dress for the weather as I hate being uncomfortably hot or cold.

Don’t spoilt it for others!

How is saying how she personally feels about the weather spoiling it for others? How is that even possible...?

frozendaisy · 30/04/2025 20:14

I had to be out and about during the day today honestly it was a normal, relatively quiet day, there weren’t people having picnics or even many walkers, it’s a surprise unseasonably warm week, no one has planned for this and typically bank holiday Monday not looking as warm.

No BBQs, no kids in gardens, didn’t even hear usual neighbour dog barking.

the80sweregreat · 30/04/2025 20:16

We need water! Bring it on and this ‘ hot spell ‘ can do one. I hope so ( south east so we don’t see enough rain )

It’s that bad voodoo. She’s put it out there now it’s in the atmosphere.

Itsjustsodepressing · 30/04/2025 20:25

I can cope with a day or two of really warm sunny weather. I generally go out for a walk in the evening along the beach and enjoy that. It's lovely at that time of day.

But. If it continues for more than a couple of days I get genuinely anxious and absolutely long for a bit of rain.

Livpool · 30/04/2025 20:32

YABu - we have had nice weather for less than a week!

GoldfinchFeather · 30/04/2025 20:37

alwaystrying1234 · 30/04/2025 18:35

I am the same , much prefer the dark, cosy nights under a blanket. I do feel more down in summer.

Whattt?

This time of the year is the best. We've just had daffodil and blossom season, now there's bluebells in the woods, lambs boinging around in fields, ducklings on the rivers and canals, near constant beautiful birdsong and butterflies in the air, not to mention ever lighter evenings and being able to go outside without being dressed up in several layers.

I suppose if you live in a city centre it's easy to miss most of these things, but if you live more rurally, I have no idea why you'd prefer the misery of particularly late autumn and winter to this time of year!
