To be really worried about Reform?

FiveHorse · 29/04/2025 13:09

Just that really. They’re predicted to gain the most from the upcoming elections, if this carries on could we see a reform government at the next general elections? Or is it press scaremongering as usual?

@EasternStandard

This is what I mean below. Aus has more democratic freedom to determine its own policies and still scores highly on rights and freedoms

You’re leading the way on this thread by a massive margin.

EU is trying to develop a set of rules that captures all scenarios for 27 different countries. All with different languages, cultures, …….

Impossible of course

Don't be silly.

Sounds good to me. I'd vote for it.

I wouldn't rely on your memory, no.it can be selective. A link would be informative.

So, third time lucky, if we leave the ECHR what do you propose we do about the GFA and UKEU trading agreement?

Revisit as what should have been done at the time when Article 50 was passed in December 2009.

The ECHR has nothing to do with the EU.

So just a different flavour of lying, gaslighting lunatics then?

Why are you voting Reform? Which of its local policies attract you?

Well, yes to some extent all politicians are liars. I will be voting for Reform because they are the only party who are serious about stopping illegal immigration and they are not chasing Net Zero madness.

How are they going to stop 'illegal' immigration?

How do you think your local council’s going to stop immigration?

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2025 14:50

The ECHR is built into the GFA as a key safeguard to protect the rights and interests of all sides of the community.
It is also part of the UK-EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement - and pulling out of it would be grounds for termination.

Do Australians not have protections and rights? They can be recreated.

Notonthestairs · 30/04/2025 14:52

There is never an answer to what happens to the Good Friday Agreement or the Trading Agreement.

Exactly! Are Reform going to fix the potholes that is the question!

Is it a pick n mix? I didn't know that.
I believe Labour are also reviewing how the ECHR is interpreted in UK law, so something isn't working well.

They look quite happy in Australia.

To be fair - Reform have spent quite a lot of time talking about potholes during their campaign. In fact I saw a clip of Farage planting a pot-plant in a pothole.

Yes, Nigel seems pretty obsessed with them.

Australia is the other side of the world, Europeans are our neighbours, we don't want more reasons for them not to trust us. Well you might but many of us don't think that's a good idea!

Owlbookend · 30/04/2025 11:40

I understand that you are unhappy with the current goverment. However, given thst there are many alternative options why are you choosing reform? Many within reform are on record espousing very unpleasant views including views thst are mysognistic. A vote against labour doesnt have to be a vote for reform.

Because I agree with Reform policies.

Maybe nobody cares? The TCA requirements for compliance and paperwork only apply to goods. Services , which make up over 80% of UK GDP and employment, are not affected.

If U.K. can get to what Aus has the bigger problem for EU politicians will be more of their voters wanting the same.

Citizens there tend not to vote it out as in pp they are happy with the system.

Clavinova · 30/04/2025 15:10

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2025 14:30

What's wrong with having these protections?

There is obviously something wrong if the right to family life includes the right to eat preferred chicken nuggets.
