How much do you pay your window cleaner?

Particularly interested in answers from people in three bed detached houses.

Mine has gone up in price again. Latest bill is £24 for less than ten minutes work. 9 windows on the house.

I had a quote 2 years ago for a one off clean of some, not all, of our windows plus conservatory of a rural farmhouse. The quote was £180 so I declined!

Hadalifeonce · 28/04/2025 13:57

14 windows, 1 conservatory 3 large patio doors plus back and front doors. £27 about every 6 weeks

Itsjustnotthevibe · 28/04/2025 13:59

I (over) pay £20 every other month for my 4 bed bungalow with bifold doors, he does my roof light as well. I think he charges £16 but I pay £20 because he is a lovely guy and he does a good job.

FartyAnimal · 28/04/2025 14:00

East Sussex, £25. I feel hard done by now! Bifold doors, 9 windows and 3 veluxes.

Maitri108 · 28/04/2025 14:03

£20 for 5 windows.

Lakeyloo · 28/04/2025 14:05

£15 every 6 weeks for 12 windows and one set of French doors. Sussex.

Jigglypuff33 · 28/04/2025 14:08

£4 for just the front every 4 weeks

weegiemum · 28/04/2025 14:12

11 windows, all quite large plus patio doors costs us £10 every 4 weeks or so. Glasgow.

Out of interest, are they climbing ladders and actually cleaning the window by hand, or standing on the ground with a karcher like device on a pole?

Pole.

It's also a bog standard three bed detached. No difficult features etc.

I feel from reading these that I'm getting fleeced.

£12 including gutters.

£12 for windowsand gutters cleaned?!

That would take a good hour depending on house size, and is a despicable price to be proud of paying someone who is self employed in a physical job with costs, insurance and taxes to pay themselves, as well as unpaid travelling time.

I would much rather pay a regular tradesperson a decent amount that will enable him and his family to have a fair means of living if he provides a good reliable service than quibble about saving a few pounds a month.

Choose the cleaning frequency that suits you, too. Why cancel a monthly clean because you think they only need doing every 6 months? Arrange that frequency with the wc at a higher price...

CinnamonBuns67 · 28/04/2025 14:31

£8 per time 4 bedroom terraced, 9 windows (2 of them actually being double pvc glass door things)

Um, I don't set the price, nor did I say I was "proud" of paying it Confused

They came out and did a free assessment and chose to charge £12.

My husband runs a window cleaning company.

Your window cleaner will have to price according to the following:

  • Public liability insurance
  • Equipment - maintenance and replacement (brushes, hoses, filters, water, softeners)
  • Travel - mileage
  • Van maintenance
  • National insurance / Tax
  • Database software, website hosting, phone, email
  • Banking - especially if having a business bank account
  • Salary - plus cover for sick pay/holiday pay

All of these costs are going up constantly and need to be brought into the pricing structure.

Your price will depend on a) how often you have your windows cleaned, b) travel - are you easily fit into the rounds? If his travel time prevents him from taking on other houses, that's factored into the pricing structure

My husband typically charges anywhere between £10-£45 depending on how many windows, the size of them, are they easy to get to? Do you have a conservatory that needs doing? Are there skylights/solar panels that need cleaning? Is there easy access to the back of the house or does he need to bring in his window cleaning back pack that allows him to come through terrace houses without using a hose), is the windows particularly dirty due to birds etc? Does the customer want the oldfashioned squegee or water fed pole method? Because one takes 1 hour, one takes 15 mins.

Thie overhead cost are irrelevant to the question. If the OP is asking for like for like comparisons then the prices wouldnt expect to wildy change

JoshLymanSwagger · 28/04/2025 14:43

That's a lot @EveryFlavourJellyBeans
I know my NDN (4 bed det) pays £15, and that's 11 windows, front door/panel and 2 box bay windows with french doors.

I asked her last summer as we were thinking of having ours done monthly.
We decided a bowl of fairy and a cloth or some windowlene spray and kitchen roll would be cheaper. Smile

peachie82 · 28/04/2025 14:44

Large three bed with a lot of windows including two large bays. We pay £10 per month.

toomuchfaff · 28/04/2025 14:53

£12.

4 bed detached with a garden room (8 floor to ceiling windows)

CoastalCalm · 28/04/2025 14:54

£10 4 bed detached but it’s using pole thingy which I think is cheaper and quicker

Midnightlove · 28/04/2025 14:55

9 quid. 3 bed detached

The OP has asked what people pay because her WC costs have gone up. This is explaining why those costs would have increased, and what the costs involved

For those of you who claim "it only takes ten mins" well actually no - the price includes the travel time to/from your house, it includes the administrative time chasing payments from customers, it's the time spent scheduling rounds and working out when you can be fit into the schedule, contacting customers the night before to say we'll over in the morning - that's all involved in the workload, same as every other tradesperson out there.

If you think it's too expensive because you can do it yoruself with a rag and some windolene, absolutely, go ahead.. But people pay window cleaners because they need a service. and window cleaners deserve to make a living just as much as anyone else.

F33t · 28/04/2025 15:08

£20 for 5 bed detached house with some skylights. East Mids.

CatsorDogsrule · 28/04/2025 15:16

20 windows, 5 doors, £33 with the pole method in SW. Here for possibly 30 mins with usually at least 2 in the crew. They do our gutters and solar panels too on request.

Els1e · 28/04/2025 15:18

10 windows plus conservatory and porch - £13
