If you have a walk in larder / pantry would you recommend it & could you share a photo?

Please!
We're considering converting under our stairs into a larder & I'd love to hear if you like yours?

And if you have any tips for organising it?

Dh is a bit on the fence so I need to convince him it's a good plan!

We live in an old house & the stairs is in the kitchen. It currently houses the hoover but that could go out in utility room

Thanks

Watching with interest as I'm thinking of getting one built on to my kitchen.

Theoldwrinkley · 26/04/2025 21:49

I have a larder. Fantastic things. But it needs really to be on a north or east wall to keep things cool. And preferably either no window or a fine metal grill. A neighbour has designed their (brand new) house with a larder on south wall with a window, so will get mega hot. I'd go for it.

I have a larder and love it. It has no window and is cool inside so good for storing most things.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/04/2025 21:59

Here you go.
We live in a remote village so like to keep plenty of stuff in.

I've got another cupboard for loo rolls and kitchen rolls.

Ours wouldn't have a window as it would be under the stairs. So i think from that point of view it should be ok

Ours hasn't got a window although it's ventilated.
We have a freezer in it, and there's one in the kitchen, too.

Ooh I'm loving these photos, I get ridiculously excited seeing all the pots of Atrixo etc 😄 how I long for my own pantry!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/04/2025 22:28

My loo roll and kitchen roll cupboard was a lot tidier before my cat got into it

Used to have one, loved it. Cottage with a tiny galley kitchen so enormously helpful to have the pantry.

NewShoesForSpring · 26/04/2025 22:34

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne are you actually living in a shop??

V cute cat 🐈 😻

Also

Woah Broon, this looks like the well-stocked shelves of a small shop. If there is an overnight zombie apocalypse, you will be fine, and I will be jealous!

We have an old house too with v limited kitchen space so this seems like a good solution....

My larder isn't walk in but it is on the East wall with air bricks, has no light in. It's actually a tall IKEA cupboard with drawers to pull out. Put it this way, I didn't run out of flour in COVID and had enough to share.

Genuinely don't know how people manage without a pantry. My house is Sall (2 bed end terrace) but has a party off the kitchen where ALL the food is kept. It also houses the fridge freezer and washer, iron, ironing board, mop bucket, broom, dustpan and brush, car cleaning stuff,...on lunch boxes, cool box , laundry stuff....no photo though, the bulb has gone
