Only interested in perspectives if you think something happens after death not the perspectives where people think it is just the end.

I like to believe in Heaven. Im religious to a certain extent - and I do like to think there is a heaven and hell, so that the really bad people get their comeuppance.
But im also scared that the end is just the end.

NoSourDough · 24/04/2025 21:42

You enter another consciousness, a mental one. You leave this physical existence where you are not bound by the laws of the physical universe.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 24/04/2025 21:44

I think is the same as before we are conceived. Which for me, is nothing. I have no knowledge or recollection of life before I entered the world, and have no expectation that I will experience anything after I die

JifNtGif · 24/04/2025 21:44

How did you feel before you were born OP?
Prob that innit.

That is fine but I was looking for perspectives that are not just it is the end as mentioned in my OP 😊

As I said, my perspective is that’s it’s the same as before I was conceived. Which for me was nothing, but might not be for you. So I don’t think my reply is the same as ‘it’s just the end’ for everyone.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 24/04/2025 22:10

As far as I know, for approximately 6/7 minutes after your heart stops your brain is still processing. I find that fascinating.

KylieKangaroo · 24/04/2025 22:14

It's something no one can ever know..I'd love to think I could see my Mum again but equally I don't want to live forever in another life either. I like the idea that it's something our brains can't comprehend in this life we are in and it might be something they surpasses our expectations. I try not to think about it too much as it freaks me out but it's hard not to wonder when you've lost someone.

Dappy777 · 24/04/2025 22:16

Why do people who believe in (or want) an afterlife always assume it will be nice?! This world has its good bits, but it’s full of horror and pain as well. I can’t remember who said “the animal kingdom is a place of perpetual screaming,” but they were right. If there is anything beyond this, I have no doubt it will include a lot of suffering. I’d much prefer nothing.

Okrr · 24/04/2025 22:16

Nobody knows, anything people believe isn’t the same as knowing. It’s either nothing or something and you’ll find out if it is something when you die.

Also, it might be different for different people or for some it’s nothing. Unlimited possibilities if you are theorising.

cornflourblue · 24/04/2025 22:16

I'm terrified it's reincarnation as someone awful...

KylieKangaroo · 24/04/2025 22:17

I'd like a big brother style here are your best bits, then some time with loved ones who've passed before then lights out forever that would be fine with me!

catstudies · 24/04/2025 22:19

What about you, Op?

maybeuptight · 24/04/2025 22:21

I wonder if there's a collective consciousness that we rejoin after death. And then maybe back into a body if there's something important to learn or experience.

VirgosNeedGoals · 24/04/2025 22:21

Nobody knows and there is only one way we will all eventually find out. My perception of the afterlife is very childlike and hasn't changed much at all over the last 40 years. Not lemonade rivers or marshmallows growing on trees, but being together with all our relatives and pets and being happy and free of pain. I'm grateful for truly believing this, it keeps me warm.

ZenNudist · 24/04/2025 22:21

There's a big wide universe out there and many extra dimensions and planes of being. It's pretty narrow thinking to believe thus is all their is.

I believe we go to be with God if that is what we want and if we don't seek unification with the ineffable divine then who knows what happens. I do think that we might be cast into a darkness of our own making.

Hopefully ousouls s go whizzing around the universe. I'm pretty positive that our souls continue on and we will be at peace.

Itchybritches · 24/04/2025 22:25

I’ve had a sense of heaven ingrained in me due to a strict catholic childhood, and I would love it to be true. I’ve had a couple of weird experiences of being aware when people close to me have died and there’s no way I could have known it, but all I can say is that I saw/felt them pass. Similarly an inexplicable experience when I was dangerously ill.
What I’m inclined to believe is that we return to some sort of energy source where we all connect - it’s hard to explain. So we are all with our loved ones, but not in the sense that we are able to be together as people, but our energy is all wrapped up together and being in this world was just an experience.
I realise that probably sounds very weird.

Rosieposy89 · 24/04/2025 22:26

I believe in something after death. It feels too inconsequential to think this is it. I'm not sure what that something is. My family have had signs from loved ones who have died which is comforting

SabrinaThwaite · 24/04/2025 22:35

We get to do it all again.

I’d like to be a tardigrade next time please.

Chiseltip · 24/04/2025 22:39

The same.thing that happened before you were born.

CarpeVitam · 24/04/2025 22:40

Nothing ‘happens’.

We just cease.

I liken it to a ‘nothingness’ - the same as before we were conceived / born.

motherhen27 · 24/04/2025 22:42

I like to picture a reunion with loved ones who’ve gone before. And I’d like to think I will see those who come after when they arrive at wherever or wherever the afterlife is. But equally the thought of existing forever is a bit scary. Maybe it’s something we can dip in and out of for special occasions and the rest of the time it’s just like being in a lovely dream?
I liked the idea of the Lovely Bones (although a horrific scenario) where she was able to watch her family until she was ready to go ‘on’ and that each person has a heaven that is personal and unique to them.
Gosh it really is quite mind blowing and overwhelming to think about.
Ultimately I think the most realistic outcome is that it does just go back to how it was before we were born. No consciousness, no awareness. But then again our energy didn’t exist before we were born and it would be nice to think it doesn’t die completely with us. Maybe it moves on somehow and somewhere else.

Fuck knows, to be honest.

BottomPinchingAunt · 24/04/2025 22:46

I think a loved one comes for you and takes your spirit away with them. I believe you see those you have loved and lost - animals too - and God is waiting to hold you in his arms. I feel you will be surrounded with peace and calm.
Many people who have had near death experiences or died and been brought back say that's what they saw/felt.

helpfulperson · 24/04/2025 22:47

Babylon 5, a sci fi show, talks about the concept of 'star stuff' which i've always liked.

In summary atoms continue to exist. So the atoms from your decaying body will continue to be part of the universe. And may end up anywhere in it.
