Only interested in perspectives if you think something happens after death not the perspectives where people think it is just the end.

Babylon 5, a sci fi show, talks about the concept of 'star stuff' which i've always liked.

In summary atoms continue to exist. So the atoms from your decaying body will continue to be part of the universe. And may end up anywhere in it.

On earth this is a fact, it's called the biogeochemical cycle. Not sure if you're aware of that or if it's that you like the thought of human matter going beyond earth specifically.

And this is exactly why organised religion is so awful. Telling people they have sinned is just ridiculous. Enjoy your life. Have fun. Be kind. You're not doing anything wrong or sinful and don't let them think you are. People shouldn't be encouraged to feel shame.

Obviously the exception is that some people are entirely awful human beings. In the animal world, they'd be expelled from the group and possibly killed.

Jimmy Saville?
Hitler?
Rachael Reeves?

I know the third one may seem random but I really fucking hate her.

As a carer I've been beside many, many people when they die, which is a privilege and an honour.

Some people wait to be alone. Some people like to be surrounded by friends and family. Some people have waited for the arrival of a new baby in their family. Some people just like to have a close carer with them.

You can tell immediately when someone has gone, it's like their soul has left (that's why we always open a window).

I can't count the number of people who reach out to someone above them and I believe a loved one comes to take them to the next place, whatever or wherever that may be. People who haven't said a word for days wil have a conversation with loved ones who have already passed away.

So, for me I believe there is something else and I think it is (partly) an overwhelming sense of peace.

This is a beautiful post, thanks for sharing

I believe it's just the end, but I really like the idea of the afterlife as depicted in the Disney film Coco (as an aside - this is the best Disney movie for a long time and everyone should watch it! (with tissues at the ready))

The idea that as long as people remember you, you hang around in the afterlife to watch over them, but eventually everyone that remembers you passes on and once you're forgotten your spirit moves on from the afterlife.

A close relative of mine said her mother promised to visit her after she died, if she could, to let her know she was there. She was adamant this would happen! Not on her deathbed saying this but a lifelong pact they had.

After death her mother never made her presence known. Maybe she couldn't, or maybe there is nothing.

I'm reading what you say and when there's an obvious hole in it, pointing it out. Don't you think that if someone says "I believe X" and X cannot possibly logically be true, it's worth telling them?

You believe there's a god who knows everything that has happened or will happen and yet can be disappointed when things don't go as he hoped. How do you square this? I'm not expecting you to give me an answer; I know you won't be able to, as it's a logical inconsistency. But if you think about it, instead of saying "why are you asking?", it might be to your benefit.

You wrote that narrative yourself, by reading between the lines. All I said was that I believe God was sad as implied in genesis 6 v6. God told us to rule over the things he gave us in genesis 1 v 28. Nothing I've said contradicts this. You are twisting it and making me look as though I've been inconsistent, when I haven't been.

Why does the idea of God offend you so much? The idea of God really seems to have upset you?

You said "God created the world and saw that it was good. He gave humans choice, so we weren't restricted. Eve and Adam chose to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They suddenly became aware of evil. God was sad and humans felt shame. "

How can an ominiscient and omnipotent god, who created Adam and Eve the way he created them, and knew exactly how they would behave, be "sad" that they did what he created them to do and knew they would do?

And don't say "he gave them free will". He gave them all the attributes that led them to make a choice the way they did, and he knew they would make that choice.

An omnisicent, omnipotent god who can be sad at the result of his own actions is not logically possible. You can't just say "You're twisting it" and hope it goes away. Try and think about it.

The idea of gods doesn't offend me at all. Not your god, nor any of the others. Show me any evidence for any of them and I'll happily accept they exist. The Hindu ones just as soon as yours.

Nobody can make promises like this!

I think you can be omniscient and omnipotent, but also grieve when situations occur (as God did in genesis 6v6). The two narratives are compatible. There is devine concurrence. I know that my parents, husband etc are one day going to die, as will we all, but it won't stop me grieving when they do.

The bottom line for me is that I cannot truly understand what happened at the fall, but the God of the world that the Bible talks about is one of relationship. God could've just killed Adam and Eve and started again - a bit like on The Sims! But I choose to have faith (Hebrews 11:1 – faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen) because of the things I have seen in my life. I can honestly say that God has done miracles in my life and through the holy spirit transformed my life. Countless words of prophecy, physical healing... The spiritual world is vast and alive. Just in our Western cultures we are so blind to it. That's my faith.

Nothing. I think you live on in the hearts of people you loved and who loved you but only in an emotional sense and the impact you had on them. They carry your love with them and that’s how your soul continues to exist.
