Do you hate scented washing conditioner/pods?

If someone’s used highly scented washing products on their clothes, I can’t stand it.

For me.. a (non) scented laundry powder/liquid and washing dried outside is perfect!

Light hearted - DF does, I do not

I will take it on the chin if I’m proved to be wrong!

I get terrible headaches from artificial scents so I'd hate be sitting next to you at work! I know a few people (unrelated) with the same thing, and others who have allergic asthma and start sneezing, wheezing and coughing when theyre around people who use it

I'm lucky to work with others who are the same as me. You'd really hate our office 😬😬

Me and many others, as you can see from the replies!

SemperIdem · 24/04/2025 16:15

I find a little goes a long way and can be nice but a lot of people really over do it.

CalicoPusscat · 24/04/2025 16:19

Same as pp a little scent is ok but not too much.

Prefer powder but I do use the sachets occasionally.

TronaldDumpsalot · 24/04/2025 16:22

They're awful. It took 5 washes to get rid of some from a vintage purchase 🤮 but I am an autistic and also hate perfume pongs. No one should inflict their smell on someone else

It's v trendy on Mumsnet in the past couple of years to post stating how much you hate either/ or perfume and scented laundry products.

I love both and if I didn't use scented laundry products not only would I not pick up a garment and think oh that smells nice when I put it on but also I'd begin to doubt myself as to whether I'd put the detergent etc into the machine and accidentally run a wash without any actual cleaning going on.

I use Ariel bio gel and a few drops of Fairy conditioner just to take the crackle out of knitted jumpers and cottons, and they smell really fresh and clean. They just don’t have the ‘fake pine forest/car air freshener’ strong smell of fabric conditioners or scent boosters. If clothes are washed on 60 with a bio detergent they shouldn’t smell musty.

I don’t think being autistic has anything to do with it from 1 glance at this thread!

I can tell without looking when my neighbour has washing on the line due to the overpowering pong of scent boosters coming over the fence. She also uses loads of scented diffusers in the house as we know when her windows are open.
PP stating this upsets dogs noses might explain the constant barking from her dog but then she is probably trying to cover up the doggy smell so it's a bit of a vicious circle.... one which my asthma struggles with......

IWetMyPlants · 24/04/2025 16:27

Love a good smelling conditioner!! Why wouldn't you want your clothes smelling lovely? Persil touch of comfort is just enough!

Barneysmomma · 24/04/2025 16:29

And I use Fairy laundry liquid & line dry everything (car port in winter) and my laundry is fresh but not heavily scented.

SmegmaCausesBV · 24/04/2025 16:30

If you have a dog it takes away some of the doggy smell that my house used to have, so I am all for them. I go nose blind to it though but assume others prefer that smell to dog.

UpMyself · 24/04/2025 16:31

It stinks and makes the clothes feel slimy.

ForOliveMember · 24/04/2025 16:35

Unscented all the way, I think it's trendy to buy those scent booster things now but they are too much for me.

Clean and air dried clothes do smell lovely! I want any lovely smell I bring with me to come from my carefully chosen personal perfume, not cheap chemicals in my washing products.

Not cheap either at £9!!

LittleGreenDragons · 24/04/2025 16:49

I've always used Comfort original but I can't smell it on the clothes (only in the bottle). Maybe I've gone noseblind too. Is the blue Lenor a reasonable scent to try instead? I do need something otherwise the static is horrendous.

minnienono · 24/04/2025 16:50

I like the lavender scented ones myself

ginasevern · 24/04/2025 16:51

I fucking hate artificial scents. That goes for air freshners too. My mum used to call it "one bad smell to kill another". The cost to the environment is even more revolting. But I've got to hand it to the ad men, they've successfully convinced women they're inadequate if they don't use them.

CoastalCalm · 24/04/2025 16:51

Yes and I hate it when I visit somewhere and the bed linen is scented - makes me feel queasy

stripesandspotsanddots · 24/04/2025 16:52

Heavily scented fabric conditioners give me a migraine, so YANBU.

minnienono · 24/04/2025 16:55

Where can you even buy unscented? Every kind has a “flavour” in my local supermarket

JHound · 24/04/2025 16:57

I love the scent from laundry detergents and fabric conditioners. It’s one of my favourite scents!

Sorry? I didn’t ask anything, I replied to your question. I don’t think I was mean - I just said I don’t like the smell of chemical fabric wash/conditioner. Apologies if it came across differently though.

Caiti19 · 24/04/2025 16:58

I'm with you OP. Fairy non-bio and dried outside. I'm addicted to the resulting scent. When the weather is dry, I wash every towel and sheet in the house and stick my head in it on the way in from the line to inhale it. No chemical concoction can ever replace the scent of natural freshness. I just love it! These ads I see "12 weeks of freshness" play into the notion of chemical smell = clean. I don't buy it. And worry about what I'd be inhaling if I did.
