Something you'd like to see added to holiday websites?

When looking for a holiday abroad, I find the websites quite well set out.
There's something I'd like to see though which you cant?

I'd like to filter down how close they are to the airport. What's the travelling distance from airport to hotel/ apartment?
You have to go right into the holiday details to check.
I really only want to see ones with a quick transfer not 2 hours.
I'm sure I'm right saying you can't do this but correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there anything else that's missing on a website that you'd like to see?

A filter option for room type. I have DSC and wanted us to be together when they were younger, but in separate rooms of a family suite. I have trawled through hundreds of hotels each year, trying to look for family suites or interconnecting rooms. Such a waste of time which would be easily resolved with a filter.

Screamingabdabz · 23/04/2025 16:49

Those that specifically don’t allow dogs. You can filter by ‘pet friendly’ but not pet-free. I am allergic to pet fur and it takes ages to trawl through reading the small print.

HoskinsChoice · 23/04/2025 16:49

How much is your client paying you for Mumsnet to do the free research for your Web design services?

Most holiday cottage companies do this already.

I'd like to see the actual size and depth of the pool as pictures can be deceptive and I've been disappointed in the past

kissmyfatass · 23/04/2025 18:03

Bedroom set up. DD is 13 so I want to filter to see if the room has a bedroom with beds in the lounge or even 2 bedrooms. Having to read the whole description and look through room options is annoying

menopausalmare · 23/04/2025 18:06

I'd like them to tell me if I'm going to enjoy this holiday, or not😄

Sirzy · 23/04/2025 18:10

Proper information about accessibility of the room, resort and the wider area would be great.

Your very cynical
I thought I bet someone puts that and you have...
I just wish they would do these things. Nobody has asked me to ask though?

Also immediately whether it's heated or not.

Not in my experience!

MidnightPatrol · 23/04/2025 20:47

Floor plan of the room.

So I can understand how it would work for a cot or sharing with kids.

I have spent hours, days of my life searching for the optimum hotel room, usually based on one photo and snippets from reviews.

Incredibly annoying.

Helpmeplease2025 · 23/04/2025 20:50

Heated pools or not, for Easter and autumn half-term holidays

Strikeback · 23/04/2025 20:54

It's a bit niche but I won't book any cottage where I can't see the garden furniture. We like to sit out and read for ages so I don't want to be perched on some iron bistro chair.

Minieggsarecrack · 23/04/2025 21:34

I think it was jet2 that you used to be able to filter by bedrooms but I can’t see that option anymore. So annoying. Why does every holiday provider think families want to cram into one room with a sofa bed?

As pp have said I want to search for bedrooms, layout of beds, room types such as interconnecting or 2 beds, plus floor plan, plus know if pool is heated or not with actual dates (not just ‘seasonal’ - what date of what month does this mean?)

Also if it’s an AI or half board, it would be great to see sample menus. I know not everyone would need this, but my dc are autistic and beige eaters, so I’m not taking the chance of paying loads and being locked in to 7 dinners comprising of things they won’t eat.

Also if there’s a kids club - how do I book? What times do they run? Got stung one year when I’d booked a specific place as it had a club (lone parent desperate for a few hours snoozing by the pool) but it turned out the club only ran for 1.5 hours in the afternoon, right over when my kids would want lunch…but lunch wasn’t provided and you couldn’t send food. Argh!

dodgemall · 23/04/2025 21:38

Yes to kids club hours and yes to menus! On booking.com I'm sure you can filter distance to airport or city centre.

dodgemall · 23/04/2025 21:43

Actually on booking.com I got around it by searching "palma airport" or "Marrakech airport" and then it sorts them distance first with the distance to each airport in km.

NebulousWhistler · 23/04/2025 21:47

Option for hotel only and not both flight and hotel.
option for a hotel for “part of my stay”
additional filters such as “beach”
some websites do some of the above, very few do all.

British Airways Holidays does all of that..
but only if you can fly from London.

I won't book anywhere that doesn't show the precise location as I want it to be walking distance to the beach, restaurants, supermarket etc but I just use Google maps to work this out.

I also want a decent balcony or terrace as this is where we spend all our time when in the accommodation.

brunettemic · 23/04/2025 22:36

Lower prices…

Menus a good idea.

Floor plan for every Airbnb and similar. I don't want to get somewhere to find you have to walk through a bedroom to get to the only bathroom or some other weird thing they haven't mentioned.

Happyinarcon · 26/04/2025 17:06

I think they should specify up front whether or not taxis can drive up to the hotel. I got caught out dragging luggage along cobblestones for ages because the hotel was in a car free zone of the city

NotMyRealAccount · 26/04/2025 17:17

Ease of manoeuvring a bicycle from outside the hotel into the room without removing the wheels. We've had one apartment in a supposedly sport-focused hotel where the only way we could get a bike into the room was to lift it over the balcony. We'd have been in a pickle if we hadn't been on the ground floor. (Yes, I accept that this is very niche and IABU.)

Length of the swimming pool that's usable for swimming.

Option of clicking on a video of the dining room at peak time, with sound.
