I sent my old one off on 27th March & got my new one delivered 7th April. Actually took a note of the dates incase anyone here asked this exact question 🤣🤣

RedSoloCup · 23/04/2025 22:54

I helped my boss and hers took a week this week but obviously no guarantees- that was standard online service.

TallAndSkinnyWithAnUnusuallyLargePelvis · 23/04/2025 23:23

My husband did his online renewal application on Monday 14th April, sent off his old passport the following day, and the new one arrived today, so 9 days in all.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 23/04/2025 23:34

I sent my mother's off one Thursday recently and the new one arrived on Tuesday the following week! We were flabbergasted! Basically done in one working day.

Mumof1andacat · 23/04/2025 23:39

My husbands last month only took 7 Days. Send it now

restbite · 24/04/2025 10:52

Did mine online on Monday, postman collected it Tuesday, just had email this morning to say its been approved and is being printed

Perhaps the OP didn't think she could renew it til it ended? (You can. You can renew it anytime.) Mine was due to end in July 2022, and I was planning on going away in September 2022. So I just sent for a new passport in March 2022. I preferred losing 4 months of the 10 year passport, to sending for it later, and not getting it in time.

.

Or perhaps, like me, she checked the date but forgot it was now 2025 not 2024 🤦🏻‍♀️

They used to add unused time on to your passport up to 3 months. Not sure when they stopped that.

Quercus3 · 24/04/2025 10:58

Applied on the 17th, all approved and they said it's being printed now. That's with bank holidays too! Impressed.

herbalteabag · 24/04/2025 11:01

In my experience renewals are fast, around a week or just over.

Bubblemonkey · 24/04/2025 11:05

My husbands been told it can take 3wks just to scan it onto the application, then it can take 3wks to process it from there 🙃

twoshedsjackson · 24/04/2025 11:18

Coincidentally, my renewed passport arrived today, 24th, after I posted the old one back on 15th. Before I renewed online, I got passport-style digital photos at the local post office, which had a unique identification number which the system holds for 30days. I think this is to ensure that the photograph is a recent one. I didn't have to physically send a photo, just add the number to the online form. So the whole process has taken process has taken 9 days, two of which were Bank Holidays.
Did you include your phone number? I got text notifications that 1) they had received the application 2) they had processed it and 3) when to expect delivery.

Thelittleweasel · 24/04/2025 11:25

We used the Post Office pathway. They do so much and the passports came back in 3 days. There is a charge but well worth it

It stopped years ago but some travellers are still getting caught out with the Brexit implications

Why did you leave it so late?

Late? She has months!!

Roselilly36 · 24/04/2025 17:03

You will probably get it before April is out OP, but almost certainly during May, try not to worry about it.

TrixieFatell · 24/04/2025 17:04

It should be quite quick, ours have never been too long. Though I remember the passport crisis just after COVID when there were huge delays. We still got ours in about 6 weeks during that so I think you'll be fine.

Zanatdy · 24/04/2025 17:05

Its around 3wks at moment as long as no issues and straightforward

BashfulClam · 24/04/2025 17:07

nottoplan · 23/04/2025 10:22

Go to the post office and get them to help renew it , it comes back quicker as they have prechecked it

It actually doesn’t. It states that in the wee guidance book that those are not prioritised over normal applications. My friends too longer than mine and got rejected when she used that service that she paid extra for. I went online and had mine in 6 days with a name change.

Henry8thHoover · 24/04/2025 17:19

Mine took exactly 2 weeks from submitting the application to having the new passport in my hand, and I live abroad!

When all those people were conned into voting to leave the eu

Discombobble · 24/04/2025 17:22

I renewed mine online, it was back in 4 days

restbite · 25/04/2025 09:39

yep mine is coming today, so less than a week and it was a Bank Hol on Monday so yeah 4 days

My dd's first passport only took 10 days a couple of weeks ago. You'll be fine.

olympicsrock · 26/04/2025 10:28

Don’t worry. It’s not peak time. You will be fine
