Reasons my 15yr old hates me. Episode 437

Today's installment...

  1. We have a downstairs bathroom. "Only poor people have them" apparently. Don't worry she was VERY quickly put in her place about that one.
  1. Our crockery doesn't match which is "like, really embarrassing". It definitely seemed embarrassing to her when she randomly turned up with friends all wanting food twice over Easter.
  1. I won't let her do her own washing. We don't have a tumble dryer so it's a balance keeping on top of the washing and avoiding having wet clothing everywhere. She won't follow this system so it'll cause me extra hassle.
  1. I frowned in her general direction.
  1. The cat sneezed on her friend last week. Apparently I should know when the cat is about to sneeze or be able to stop her. She was so upset about it that she only remembered to tell me about it today.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode in 10hrs.

Well I for one think your behaviour is outrageous, OP. Especially the last one.

Comedycook · 22/04/2025 20:03

I have two teens...you have my sympathy

Isn't it crazy how when people decide they are going to have children, they spend so much time trying to decide if they'll be able to cope with a baby and how they'll manage but absolutely no time wondering if they will cope with the teenage years....or was that just me?!

CallMeDaphne · 22/04/2025 20:04

If you can’t stop your cat sneezing on your teenager then I don’t know how you can call yourself a mother or hold up your head in polite society.

CloudCustard · 22/04/2025 20:04

Sounds like she needs to get out with her friends.

drspouse · 22/04/2025 20:05

Absolutely! Do better!
I'm let off lightly with my 10 year old and not being allowed to sing along to shows or the radio.
I told her that it's the purpose of parents to annoy their children. All around me at the show agreed heartily.

fruitpastille · 22/04/2025 20:07

At least she speaks to you - I'm so needy trying get attention from mine 😁

Have you had a listen to Sara Cox's Teen commandments podcast? It's quite entertaining.

Bloodylovecheese · 22/04/2025 20:07

Mine complained that I bought too many toppings for a pancake day gathering at ours with her friends. It was embarrassing apparently 😳
You win some you lose some pffft 🙄🤣

Sminty2 · 22/04/2025 20:08

I remember my daughter (who grew up to be absolutely wonderful) yelling at me because her friends couldn’t possibly visit her.

Why?

Our fridge was embarrassingly small and she couldn’t let anyone see it, ergo, she would have no friends.

merryandbrightdelight · 22/04/2025 20:09

🤣🤣🤣 you are SO unfair! (In my best Harry Enfield voice)

Zanatdy · 22/04/2025 20:10

I feel incredibly lucky every day to have escaped the sulky teen phase with all 3. Youngest 17 now. My mother meanwhile is fuming I never got pay back!! Teens can be hideous creatures.

cooldayslikethis · 22/04/2025 20:10

Im crying OP.
my SD told me that she has told her friends my name is aurora and to go along with it because my name doesn’t give cool mum vibes. If I don’t she said she won’t have any friends over here ever again and her life will be over. She’s 8

looking forward to your next instalment

ohyesido · 22/04/2025 20:11

Well, if it’s your cat then it’s obviously your fault. You should apologise for existing, and buy her some food

The4teddybears · 22/04/2025 20:11

At that age , mine told me to turn the car radio off when i picked her up from school in case her friends heard it when she opened the car door.
Classic fm was embarrassing her 🤣

Puzzlemethis · 22/04/2025 20:11

Your poor daughter, does she need me to send the link for NSPCC? I can only imagine the hours in therapy she'll need to get over the trauma of mismatched crockery and cat sneezing on her friend

Squarestones · 22/04/2025 20:12

I only have a 13yo so hes not quite at the stage of hating me yet, but this made me smile/cringe as the plates thing is exactly the kind of stuff I would have moaned to my mum about way back when. Once had a hissy fit in IKEA as she wouldn't let me buy some wooden hangers to replace the perfectly decent plastic and metal ones we had. Thankfully I grew up, she forgave me, we look back and laugh. Here's hoping you (and I) get out the other side of the teen years in one piece and can look back and laugh too

TwelveBlueSocks · 22/04/2025 20:12

I just got given a bollocking because I agreed with DS that he should publish his novel, and then also agreed that he shouldn't. He slammed the door on the way out. I am wrong about intellectual property law.

Newname71 · 22/04/2025 20:13

Teenagers are arseholes!
I am to blame for everything that goes on in
the world!!
When things aren’t going right for him he bombards me with messages at work!
Not sure what I can do from
here mate, why not speak to your other parent, you know the one that gets home from work at 2:15 every day. Give him some grief for a change! 🙄😂

ohyesido · 22/04/2025 20:14

actually this made me think of the time I was dog sitting and the dog (a big drooling boxer) sneezed in my sister’s yoghurt. I nearly died laughing at the look on her face

I remember so clearly doing aqua aerobics at about 8 months pregnant. A primary school group turned up and were being really rowdy. I was getting irritated by them. I then suddenly thought ‘oh shit I’m having one of them!!’

ghostyslovesheets · 22/04/2025 20:15

Because her sister is home from Uni

because I dropped her at the nail place on my way somewhere but they were busy so she came car shopping with me and we went to M/S on the way home

she was at the zoo all day with her mate

im a shit mum who loves her sister more

Straightjacketsandroses · 22/04/2025 20:15

Mine spent all Friday hating me and his dad because we took him to the cinema to see the film he wanted to see with us but being out in public with parents is painfully embarrassing in case his friends see him, as none of them have parents you see

Hankunamatata · 22/04/2025 20:19

Mine just seem to have issues with each other. Then turn on me because 'i don't do anything about them (sibling)'

Bobbybobbins · 22/04/2025 20:20

My kids are not teens yet but I’m a secondary teacher so I totally sympathise and today I:
Didn’t sufficiently admire one of my form group’s revision
Hadn’t yet watched a TV episode that one of them wanted to discuss

UndermyShoeJoe · 22/04/2025 20:20

Mine didn’t want carrots today. Worst mother ever.

I hope you paid to makeup for still being alive.
