To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

Id rather my kids have jam than chocolate crappy cereals

At least jam is pretty much just fruit and sugar, not the weird highly processed cereal shapes that are coloured and flavoured etc.

But isn't cereal fortified? If the argument is against sugar jam has just as much

My family in the 1980s and 90s 👌

BownnTown · 21/04/2025 19:47

I buy them for myself sometimes. I try to eat healthy as much as I can but sometimes you just think “fuck it, I’m having coco pops” you know?

MayaPinion · 21/04/2025 19:47

And TBF, if that’s where people are satisfying their chocolate cravings it’s a hell of a lot better than a bar of dairy milk. I’d much rather my kid had a bowl of coco pops with its vitamins and minerals than a Toblerone as an after school snack. Drown them in milk and you get calcium into them too.

Don't forget the Nutella for the toast 👌

Oh no, Nutella is just grim. Mostly palm oil and sugar 🤮

Do you honestly think that parents are buying chocolate cereal for kids because they can't afford to give them porridge, wheetabix or toast and peanut butter?

Do you feed you own kids food like this every day?

Exactly. The stores own-brand weetabix is cheaper than shitty chocolate cereal, like Cocopops and Oreo cereal, and much better for you/for children. Absolute nonsense that people feed their children chocolate crap because they 'can't afford' real/normal cereal. You can get own brand cornflakes too.

As I said, no wonder so many children/adults are obese if they're eating chocolate for breakfast! Chocolate cereal should not exist.

MumWifeOther · 21/04/2025 19:48

Only the seriously ignorant or lazy

Bubblebubblepoppop · 21/04/2025 19:48

I wouldn't give it to my kids for breakfast but when I was pregnant I had such a craving for coco pops that I'm surprised my child didn't come out smelling of them.

Warning them up for 20-30 seconds makes the milk extra chocolatey if anyone is interested 🙃

Edited

Yep, Nutella is foul too. Chocolate on toast FFS! Hmm

NotDarkGothicMama · 21/04/2025 19:49

I buy the Coco Pops mini-boats cereal for me. The DC know better than to touch it!

WtafIsThat · 21/04/2025 19:49

The bran flakes in my cupboard have more sugar per serving than the choco snaps.

Difference is we didn’t have the information we do now so easily accessible. We really cannot hide behind “not knowing” anymore.

So why are you eating them!?

SaladSandwichesForTea · 21/04/2025 19:50

I don't buy those hut I buy chocolate granola and others on occasion because it hits the spot at 9pm when I'm peckish and need more crunch than a chocolate bar.

My child doesn't get a look in.

Moll2020 · 21/04/2025 19:50

My 28yr old daughter. She visited last week and bought chocolate cereal with her, I had a bowl of it - bloody gorgeous!

SparklingBettie · 21/04/2025 19:50

Chocolate cereal for weekend breakfast and as a topping on Greek yogurt with berries. Chocolate cereal is arguably tastier than a chocolate biscuit.

CoconutSky · 21/04/2025 19:50

I buy it 🤷🏿‍♀️ there’s not much in the sugar content when it comes to coco pops/weetos and plain cereal. Plus they are fortified.

Uricon2 · 21/04/2025 19:50

I remember the virtual "I am Maximus" gladiatorial combat with my little brother over the cocopops in the multipack of little cereal boxes you could get (can get?) This was the 60s, it was a massive treat.

Even Frosties couldn't compare.

BatchCookBabe · 21/04/2025 19:49

I don't mind chocolate on toast. It not a million miles away from Chocolate brioche really.

Just Nutella is disgusting. I don't like it, I'd just rather give the kids some toast and some squares if actual chocolate for breakfast, than Nutella on toast ...

Narwhalsh · 21/04/2025 19:51

Are kids not allowed treats? Must they only eat healthy things all the time?

Unpaidviewer · 21/04/2025 19:51

Why are so many people here orthorexic, get yourselves some help before you screw up your kids. There's nothing wrong with the occasional bowl of coco pops.

Coconutter24 · 21/04/2025 19:51

Blueyseviltwin · 21/04/2025 19:11

Porridge and fruit? Scrambled eggs? Wholemeal toast and pure nut butters?

I've never once fed my kids a breakfast cereal. I understand now why childhood obesity is so rife.

My kids have the odd ice cream, chocolate etc. I'm not a fun sponge but I just can't get over serving that as a meal before expecting concentration at school for example.

As for cost of living, porridge is much cheaper.

Your kids have the odd ice cream, chocolate etc my kids have the odd bowl of chocolate cereal. I’m 100% certain the cereal my children have contain far less sugar and fat and plenty more vitamins and fibre than your kids odd ice cream and chocolate etc. Do not worry though I won’t judge you for your unhealthy choices they are your children and you feed them how you see fit. I’m sure you do like plenty of us and allow things in moderation

Because I like them. Bore off.

Because she likes them, presumably?
