To wonder who is buying chocolate cereal

Who om each is buying Lion bar and Oreo cereal? See also lucky charms, nesquick and coco pops
These aren't breakfast foods (or any sort of food). I literally cannot imagine anyone thinking it is a reasonable way of feeding children?

I am a right judge pants when it comes to feeding kids.

I walked down the cereal aisle today and was aghast that such rubbish is being fed to kids. (Healthy adults I also judge a bit but if you have a normal bmi and an otherwise good diet then it's up to you.).

I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to give your kids a healthy diet, especially to start the day.

Better than no breakfast at all. Child poverty is at a high at the moment. Better to be full than not at all. Bit judgemental of you OP!

PaintDecisions · 21/04/2025 19:03

When I was 35, I lamented that I'm childless (not by choice) and so had no kids to buy Coco Pops or other fun things for.

So now I buy them for me.

Don't be a fun sponge.

Yellowhammer09 · 21/04/2025 19:03

I didn't realise you were on MN, Mum!

LittleBearPad · 21/04/2025 19:04

Bought coco pops last week when we were on holiday for the DC and DH.

paulyispoorly · 21/04/2025 19:04

Omg chocolate cerealll 😬😬😬😬call the breakfast police

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 21/04/2025 19:04

Me, sometimes, because they are delicious.

BitterTits · 21/04/2025 19:05

I bought chocolate Shreddies for my 12 year old son this week. You'd better call social services.

ouch321 · 21/04/2025 19:05

Coco Pops are tasty but not filling.
Weetos I really like.

Mmmmm unhealthy cereal - my favourite.

RoseAndGeranium · 21/04/2025 19:05

Completely agree, although it's not just the chocolate ones -- during COVID we had friends pick up groceries for us a couple of times when we were self-isolating and on one occasion they brought Crunchy Nut Cornflakes instead of regular Cornflakes. I tried some because I figured it was wrong to waste them and my god were they sweet. I had to chuck the lot. I wouldn't eat a dessert that sweet, let alone a breakfast cereal!

MysteriousUsername · 21/04/2025 19:05

I buy them for my kids at the beginning of the holidays. My kids are now adults, I still buy them for them at the beginning of the holidays. It’s nice to have a chocolatey treat sometimes.

Sesma · 21/04/2025 19:05

I buy them

Bournetilly · 21/04/2025 19:05

Stop being so judgemental, there’s far worse things than chocolate cereal.

You were aghast. You need to get out more. There are much worse things in world than chocolate cereal

Eachpeachpearprune · 21/04/2025 19:06

I agree that it’s a terrible breakfast if it’s consumed everyday/many times a week. I must admit I do cringe at the thought of kids eating the ‘birthday cake’ flavour, Reece’s, Biscoff etc. type cereal everyday for breakfast - I mean it must be almost pure sugar. Occasionally - whatever, it’s not the end of the world but everyday is not good.

ChompinCrocodiles · 21/04/2025 19:06

You know what I haven't had for donkeys years? Rusks. I'm not sure the dc would even recognise them.

Fuck me, I'm buying rusks tomorrow. This thread has inspired me 😍

I have children.

When I was a child, Nutella was for children and not for adults.

Now I am an adult, Nutella is for adults and not for children.

If you don't have children you can buy all the unhealthy shit you want because you don't have to hide it from them.

Sahara123 · 21/04/2025 19:06

Whilst you were polishing your halo I bought some crunchy nut cornflakes last week 🤤

Lascivious · 21/04/2025 19:06

Loads of parents feed their kids crap, otherwise they wouldn’t sell it. 🤷‍♀️

BlueSpikeyPearls · 21/04/2025 19:06

I love them and used to eat them all the time. But I have a problem with chocolate and sugar, so I don´t buy them anymore. They used to be sold as a healthy breakfast, though. All cereal was. The health claims were pretty atrocious.

WtafIsThat · 21/04/2025 19:07

Enlighten us, what should our children be eating?

I’m going to play ‘breakfast bingo!’ Someone do a shot when UPFs get mentioned.

Returnofthemark · 21/04/2025 19:07

I love a bowl of cocopops! I buy them for me and have it with full fat milk. I used to add sugar when I growing up too!

My son isn't bothered though. He likes porridge or toast and jam.

This generation, honestly.

MereNoelle · 21/04/2025 19:07

I don’t buy chocolate cereal, but mine did have an Easter egg for breakfast this morning so…

BooksAndHooks · 21/04/2025 19:08

We always had treat cereal for special occasions e.g nesquick bunny cereal for Easter, lucky charms at Christmas and always let ours have coco-pops on holiday.

Nobody has said they feed their children this every day, no different to any other sweet foods, all in moderation.
