After death can you see what's happening on earth?

This is something I regularly wonder. Obviously none of us know for sure.

Of course not. Just like you had no awareness of anything before you were born.

But a life has been lived, with experiences and memories, so it may not be like before you were born

StupidBitchy · 20/04/2025 20:08

Yes and you can watch your friends on the toilet 💩

What I mean, is are you aware what's happening on earth? I ask because of psychics saying that the dead person was aware of such a thing and was there with the family etc.

Please, please don't listen to "psychics". They are, as pp said, absolute charlatans. They prey on the bereaved and the heartbroken. They are making money from pain.

I hope so, for a short while anyway and then I would think we would move on to the next stage.

The next stage being worm food. 😁

suburberphobe · 20/04/2025 20:13

There's some mean posters on this thread. Glad I don't know you in real life.

That's such an interesting point. I've often wondered about that.

user1471453601 · 20/04/2025 20:18

Have you ever lit a match and watched it glow? If you have, you'll know it's quite beautiful in its way.

Have you ever blown that match? That's the way we go. We are born, we are all beautiful in our way. Then we are blown out. The end.

CarlyCoffee · 20/04/2025 20:19

I was under general anaesthetic for the first time recently.

I reckon that’s what it’s like to be dead. Just gone. No awareness or dreams or anything.

Anononony · 20/04/2025 20:21

I bloody hope not, I mean, are there rules for earth/people watching? How do they know when is a good time to come have a look? Or is it like when a parent catches a teen in an awkward moment and quickly backs back out of the room? Can they see through the roof or do they only see you when you're outside

I personally find the whole 'looking down on you' thing a bit creepy

wowwhataday · 20/04/2025 20:21

Can you imagine how boring watching life must be. Today, Betty put out the bins and tomorrow I’m going to watch her take them back in again. For eternity 😱

KarminaBurana · 20/04/2025 20:23

I wonder if people don't mean it literally, about the bins and going to Tesco, but that love never ends and that will always be with you? In my low moments that's what I hope. That loved ones' love for me remains, in some way.
I don't know.

justasmalltownmum · 20/04/2025 20:24

As someone who believes in life after death, the answer is still no. This world is now closed to them and they have entered the new world.

proximalhumerous · 20/04/2025 20:24

Welliguessso · 20/04/2025 16:57

Yes, if you wanted to but the vast majority feel no need as they are content. Consciousness and awareness don’t work in quite the same way after death.

Wow, who would've thought that God uses Mumsnet.

Cocteautriplet · 20/04/2025 20:27

I don’t think we live after death in a spirit sense but the universe is a closed system so the particles we are made of go on forever albeit in a less ordered way. I find that very comforting.

LillyPJ · 20/04/2025 20:27

blackpear · 20/04/2025 19:59

It was a sneering response to somebody who was simply sharing their experiences. And yes, loads of people believe in dreams as messages, and have done since the beginning of recorded history.

Believing in something doesn't make it true.

Yes .. if you ever need their help - they won’t let you down

You are absolutely correct and once those connections are made they can’t be broken. It feels as if they’ve been broken when a loved one dies but the connection has just shifted as physical connection is no longer possible. It’s hard to explain as on Earth with a physical body you are bound by the laws of science and biology and the limited understanding humans have. It’s very difficult to even find the words to explain it. Sometimes you’ll see news articles about something like the JW telescope picking something up that scientists say doesn’t do what they would have expected it to , it’s sort of like that it’s hard to explain how love and connections change and carry on once the sort of love we experience here is gone when someone passes. But it does carry on and isn’t subject to the limitations of time and space that we think we know.

In an interview with VH1, lead singer Pat Monahan revealed that he wrote this song about the death of his mother.

Train released their first album in 1998, and were touring that year when Monahan's mom was dying of lung cancer - she was a heavy smoker.

This was before the widespread use of cell phones, and Monahan made many stops to pay phones on the tour to speak with his mom during this difficult time.

In December of that year, his mother died, and in early 1999 Train was working on their next album when their record company started pressuring them for a hit.

Monahan returned to his childhood home in Pennsylvania, and woke one morning with the words "back in the atmosphere" in his head.

Beginning a time of healing, he started to compose the song. Said Monahan: "Loss of the most important person in my life was heavy on my mind, and the thought of 'what if no one ever really leaves? What if she's here but different. The idea was, she's back here in the atmosphere."

I hope that when you're dead, you're dead and that's it. Imagine having to live forever. 😳

A human life in a human body forever would be exhausting I think

No, I have not been dead. I just know certain things. As I said before I’m not saying that psychics are all fakes but I think it would be extremely rare to the point of near impossibility for any human to be able to act as a bridge between before death and after death so I hope that those who are desperate don’t get tricked or given false closure or reassurance.

Go on. Tell us how you "just know certain things" and what they are, or we will just think you're a charlatan too.

Psychics are, at best, delusional, and at worst (most of them imo), cruel manipulative parasitic charlatans.

You can think whatever you want to about me. It’s your choice. You can believe what I’ve written or you can consider it a load of rubbish it’s your free will to do and think whatever you wish. If anything I’ve said reassures just one person then i’ll be happy. To answer your question as to how I know certain things - I don’t know, I have no answer I just have what I can only describe as some kind of inbuilt knowledge that I’ve had for as far back as I can remember and it has always been immensely helpful to me and when the opportunity arises such as this thread I feel I can offer some suggestions or information to others.
