This is something I regularly wonder. Obviously none of us know for sure.

I think so...

I do believe in Mediums, I've been to a few different open evening things where they are talking to a crowd and you're kind of judging their "evidence" against how the person they're speaking with reacts. So you never quite know. However, a close friend lost her partner suddenly about 5 years ago and we went to a medium night as a few friends.

The medium was able to quote so many direct things word for word that we have spoken about in conversations after his death. Really random stuff too - unique names perfectly relayed, places very accurately described and so many things that just would not be relevant to anyone else at all. I'm not a sucker - we listened with the mind to be skeptical but it was so spot on.

The event was a pay on the door, no booking needed thing with no Facebook page - so there's no 'researching the room' taking place. We felt so strongly it was him, that the man's sister booked a reading privately for £50. However - he apologised and said that after 10 minutes he just wasn't getting anything coming through, so gave her all her money back and left. I feel like a con-man would have repeated the same stuff and drivelled on and insisted on keeping the cash. This guy was so adamant unless he can read you, then you get all your cash back.

I've been to about 10 different medium night things and I would say 4 were probably making up about 70% of the stuff they said. I think they have a gift still, but I think some are obviously better than others.

Try reading this and you'll find out how they do it.

Do you know what ‘dead’ is OP? 🤦‍♀️

edwinbear · 20/04/2025 18:41

My maternal grandad promised my mum faithfully, if there was any way he could possibly visit her after he died, or send some sort of reassurance he was OK, he’d do it. She’s not heard a peep since he died.

I quite like the idea it’s the same as before you were born. I’m not traumatised by knowing I simply didn’t exist before I was born, so if it’s the same as that, I can deal with it.

Cushionette · 20/04/2025 18:33

In fairness if my Jewish grandma found out about all the non-Jewish cock I’ve had she’d not be that bothered about the grammar.

Oh, I like you.

Good-natured, and funny with it. All too rare.

GildedRage · 20/04/2025 18:51

I certainly wouldn’t want my loved ones to “see” my toilet or sex habits.
I do hope they feel the love and respect I have for them.

Topseyt123 · 20/04/2025 18:53

I think that the only people who could tell you that definitively are those who are already dead. So we'll never know.

I lean towards "no" though.

ZoggyStirdust · 20/04/2025 18:57

It’s sad but all those, including on this thread, that have seen psychics and been convinced, have been conned.

sometimes it’s very sophisticated, but it’s a con.

IHeartHalloumi · 20/04/2025 18:59

Unless the dead can also have a Mumsnet account you're not going to get an answer.

Snugglemonkey · 20/04/2025 19:12

No. You have ceased to exist.

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 20/04/2025 19:13

I dunno. Ask a dead person.

Oh, well, if you had a dream about your late father then that changes everything we know...

What an unnecessarily mean response.

Wasn’t it? People can disagree without being dicks.

What was mean about it? Surely nobody thinks dreams mean anything?

kkloo · 20/04/2025 19:34

I love to read about near death experiences, in some where they get 'shown around' there's definitely a viewing place where they go to look at loved ones!

Thanks for posting. I feel like for the type of "events" I've done, this isnt applicable. It seems like the big American show circuits and I can see some of the points in the article could be really valid. Especially the reality show ones. For the record, I don't watch these or care for them at all.

I also think shows like "Most Haunted" or whatever it was called with that Derek bloke (lol what a twat) have really fucked the reputation of mediumship.

However, I'm talking about an "event" in a churchy type hall, with 15-20 visitors paying £5 on the door (which includes tea and biscuits) and everything raised (once biscuits are paid for) goes to a charity. There's certainly no hidden cameras to spy on the audience beforehand.

Aside from mediums though, back to what OP point... i believe that some spirit exists here and there around us, but they're not watching our every move. When they've seen enough they go on. As much as I'm desperate to hear from my lovely Nan, I never have! I've looked for signs and feelings and craved to hear from her at these types of little events and nothing! I believe that's because she knew it was her time and moved on immediately, or she's just always with my Grandad.

Or past life experiences!! Some seem so convincing and spooky!

Skeptic friends of mine went to a similar event and were deliberately talking about their imaginary dead relatives beforehand in the lobby. The medium had a plant in the lobby who told the medium what the skeptics had said. The medium used those examples on stage and the skeptics pretended to be astonished that the medium knew.

You never know who is listening.

chakrakkhan · 20/04/2025 19:50

No. I don’t believe anything comes after death. Please don’t hang on any words a Psychic has said to you.

PersonalBest · 20/04/2025 19:51

I don't believe so, because you are dead, hence gone for ever. That's my belief.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/04/2025 19:52

no. No you can’t. HTH.

What sort of person mocks someone's need for comfort after losing their dad?...take a good look at yourself.

LoveIndubitably · 20/04/2025 19:58

I believe that they can, and that Hitler is addicted to Neighbours and watches it twice a day. Jimmy Saville watches you taking your bra off and Queen Elizabeth (both I and II) severely disapprove of the state of your carpet.

I don't enjoy believing this, but the evidence is just too strong.

blackpear · 20/04/2025 19:59

LillyPJ · 20/04/2025 19:28

What was mean about it? Surely nobody thinks dreams mean anything?

It was a sneering response to somebody who was simply sharing their experiences. And yes, loads of people believe in dreams as messages, and have done since the beginning of recorded history.

MagickTrick · 20/04/2025 20:00

If your soul can ‘see’, then yes.
All of those worried about nans, mums, whoever seeing you doing things we perceive as ‘bad’ don’t need to worry. Souls don’t care, there is no good or bad where they exist, everything is neutral there. The roles we play on Earth are like actors in a film- we are here to learn. So doing good or bad things are all part of the experience. This is what I’ve learnt on my spiritual journey anyway. And it brings me peace.

Allseeingallknowing · 20/04/2025 20:05

Makes a mockery of religion then!
