Have you ever visited somewhere that was haunted?

Just that really. Have you ever visited somewhere and had a paranormal experience?

When I was a teen, camping with family in the Lake District I had an experience. The campsite had an odd atmosphere. It felt dead and flat. I woke in the night. It was quiet, I then heard a childlike voice saying it hurts over and over. When I looked outside the tent there was a white silhouette. My dad says it was a nightmare but I was definitely awake

@Slobberchops1 don't be a twat.

Gotback · 20/04/2025 22:55

@Calliopespa She looked ghostly, shimmery. Same silhouette as the girl in our group who said "I've seen a girl who looks like me."

I definitely didn’t come from scaredy-cat women who cried at the drop of a hat and hid behind every door at the sound of a cricket.
I come from pioneer women who walked across the plains of America with babies strapped to their tits and five little kids in the wagon beside them.
THEY scared the spiders and the snakes. If there were any ghosts, the ghosts were afraid of them.
I never believed in ghosts and I’m not sure I believe in them now.
I KNOW there were footsteps coming down that staircase and I KNOW that doorknob disappeared.
And damn you if you’re calling me a liar - or if you’re saying I was hysterical or anything else.
Damn you for calling any woman here a liar or hysterical.
We know what we know.
Maybe just a damn you for being impolite.

I saw a woman literally disappear in front of my eyes at Tatton Park. My friend stopped dead in her tracks and actually said it before I did.

Gettingbysomehow · 21/04/2025 05:04

I went through a phase some years ago of staying in known haunted places like Pluckley and the mermaid Inn in Sussex. I didn't see a thing. I was most disappointed. Ghost hunting did not work for me.

Stillearninglife · 21/04/2025 06:33

Yeah stayed at a big old Edwardian country house and was told by others that’s it’s extremely haunted, was asked if I believed in ghosts and was I scared.
Many in my party were terrified, didn’t sleep etc.

Me, in great anticipation waited… nothing, not a thing.
My room was like a cross between an old people’s home and a charity shop crammed with antiques I suppose. Heavy wooden furniture, obviously very old wooden panels so very authentic.
I couldn’t muster up the enthusiasm to be be scared or think it was anything other than an old hotel, disappointed.
No signs of the cross or any of that shite, I’m not religious at all, just an ordinary old place.
Would have been delighted to have been proven wrong.

Also did the Edinburgh vaults, again it felt warm and safe to me, smelled of damp with beautiful designed architecture, but absolutely nothing untoward happened.

Obviously ghostly apparitions canny be fucked with me!

How was she dressed?

violetcuriosity · 21/04/2025 07:40

After I had my second baby I had a few months of unexplained events/horrible experiences that I guess are likely linked to exhaustion and hormonal imbalances. I used to wake up and the fan in my room would be on, I’d turn it off and it would be on again when I woke up. My elder dd9 asked why I’d been checking on her holding the baby during the night a few times when I definitely hadn’t, she’s still adamant whoever was stood in her doorway looked exactly like me. The baby has allergies, and while we were getting to the bottom of it, this weird pattern started where I would check the time during the day and the numbers would be the same E.g. 11:11, 03:03 etc. whenever that would happen we ALWAYS ended up at A&E with the baby it was so odd. Sometimes it would happen and then one of us would be ill, if it happened, someone would be ill. I do know how unhinged that sounds btw 😂. Sometimes I would be watching tv or doing the baby’s nappy and out of nowhere I would be aware that someone else was in the room, sometimes I would be bent over the bed dressing the baby and be too frightened to turn around. I also didn’t like being in the house without my partner at night. It stopped when the baby was about 8 months so I do think it was hormones as I’m not really a sensitive, fearful person usually but it has stayed with me and I definitely have more sympathy for people who have experienced unexplained events now.

LillyPJ · 21/04/2025 07:42

No. People might well have experienced something odd which they can't explain. That doesn't mean that it was magic, paranormal, ghosts or aliens. It just means they haven't got an explanation for it.

Oooh that’s so creepy. Like your new baby’s mother from another life or something! ( don’t get freaked out: I’m not a believer in reincarnation but still … the story presented itself!)

We were on holiday with another family in the early 80s somewhere in Wales all staying in a cottage. I was 3/4 years old and there were five of us kids, all very young. We arrived at the cottage and whilst the adults unpacked us kids explored the house. Apparently we all came running downstairs crying and saying to our parents, “Willa’s upstairs”. There was one room we had gone into and had all become frightened of ‘Willa’ and had all been terrified. My mum said all five of us refused to go into ‘Willa’s room’ for the rest of the holiday. I don’t remember any of it as I was too young but it has become a family legend for our two families and the five of us kids (now all adults) have a what’s app group together called ‘Willa’s Room’

How was she dressed?

A light coloured crinoline type dress. She had dark hair with ringlets.

We actually went and asked a staff member if they had people dressed up in period costumes but he said no.

I would have thought I’d just lost my mind, if it hadn’t been for my friend. She just stopped walking and said “Where did she go??”. I wanted her to tell me what she saw, so I asked “Who?”, and she said “Don’t do that, the woman that was literally just stood there in those old clothes”.

She saw the exact same thing I did, and neither of us can explain it.

I have in Jamaica, I don’t believe in ghosts etc but when I got home and had my photos developed (back in the day) there were cloudy misty patches above the bed where a ghost was meant to be/died or whatever.
It was very eerie.

PurpleChrayn · 21/04/2025 08:41

Yes! Southport Botanic Gardens museum is proper spooky. I used to be obsessed with it, especially the doll exhibition. Sadly it closed a few years ago but there’s an episode of Most Haunted about it, and a short book on Amazon.

That is so spooky. A friend of mine saw a child disappear into a closed door at Erdigg

I was hoping someone would mention Chillingham. I have visited there a couple of times but didn't know you could stay there.

i have been to Chillingham a few times, just to visit, I never stayed there. I didn’t see anything but experienced a few minutes of absolute desolate sadness (only way I can describe) it, on one of the back staircases. It came and went very quickly, for no obvious reason

I might be outing myself here! Yesterday I took DD and her pony to a friends yard for the girls to mess around and do Easter egg hunt on the ponies. Our ponio is a solid cob who you can ride past a combine, he’s the nanny horse at our yard. Literally nothing phases him. He’ll ride in the school with chickens, alpacas, loves sheep and cows, dogs, shares a paddock with geese, ducks and pheasants. Bikes, motorbikes etc, golf carts nothing phases him.

Her yard has a history of spooky goings on and there is a part of the school which seems to upset the horses. Sure enough, our little saint did a huge spooky (for him). Yes it was a strange environment but he’s been around the school 8-10 times, and he goes out and about to different places at least twice a week. And the fence line was just open to flat fields. He kept looking intently at nothing. There was nothing there. He was definitely unsettled. The school backs onto a small private grave yard so I’m intrigued to know more about the place.

Yes, My aunty's flat when I was young.

She bought a second-hand card table from a charity shop. Shortly afterwards, she woke up in the middle of the night to find a woman standing at the side of her bed, pressing down on her stomach. She was pregnant at the time and was scared she would lose her baby.

She didn't connect it to the table but one day she came home and saw the table moving across the room by itself. They took it into the garden and burnt it and nothing happened after that.

I witnessed none of this myself but the look of absolute terror on her face when she told me said it all.

I absolutely love thrifting vintage items, but I definitely always have this fear at the back of my mind 😂

The Bent Pyramid. There was just the oddest sensation being in there; it felt almost oppressive, and the very distinct sensation that the pyramid was not unoccupied.

Oh my god I wouldn’t have dared burn it what if you angered the ghost even more 😱

My three and a half year old keeps talking about his past life 😬 he was a little girl called Jessie and he lived with his grandma but she got very sick and died and left him on his own with the cat 😅 but he tells me he went on to have a long happy life after that 🤣

He’s been saying it for ages now, it’s become part of normal conversation, always ‘when I was a little girl, I ate fish for my dinner. When I was a little girl, I had a yellow dress’ etc etc

The Crypt at Roslyn Chapel outside Edinburgh.
I went down there and came straight back up again.
Something really unpleasant in there. I mentioned it to a family friend who had visited and she knew exactly what I meant.
