Easter Baskets.. what’s realistic

Seen many reels of people making up lovely Easter baskets. Some pretty expensive ones too to be honest. Do you do Easter baskets in you’re house what goes inside them? I think it’s a lovely idea just not sure if it’s a thing me or the Easter bunny want to start in this house 😅to think a couple of Easter eggs is still what the bunny brings most houses?

We lived in the US for several years and the Easter basket is definitely a big thing there. But then they don’t have chocolate Easter eggs.

Back in the Uk now and my kids get one fairly small egg from us. Plus usually ones from grandparents, family and friends etc so it works out as quite a lot of chocolate in total.

It’s never the classy sort of people you see doing this, is it?

Classy people wouldn't post that...

SpaceBunHun · 18/04/2025 15:13

IVFmumoftwo · 18/04/2025 15:05

I don't think so. I think my perception is right.

Well, as the person who made the comment, I can tell you you’re wrong and you’re perceiving something that wasn’t vocalised or intended.

There is no nuance to this. Creating Easter baskets to post online is a tacky thing to do.

Linking that to benefits is a prejudice you have, for some reason, but I don’t see the two as connected at all. You’re also the one who linked “classy” to “middle class”- I think that says more about you than you’d care to admit.

In your head, the exchange played out this way-
“X is tacky”
“I can’t believe you think that only working class people on benefits do these things!”

That’s a you-problem.

People on benefits are usually mocked for their enormous piles of Christmas presents. It doesn't take a genius to suspect you are talking about the same people for this topic.

Nah, the shitty remark was from the poster judging people for being classless and tacky.

Hands up- I do judge people for being classless and tacky. Most people do- that’s why you Brits made celebrities out of people like Jeremy Kyle.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/04/2025 15:17

Unless you watch Fast and Furious and think that’s how you should drive to Tescos, don’t look at reels and think that’s how you should parent.

Couple of little eggs or one big one, eat (probably lamb), be happy.

Kardamyli2 · 18/04/2025 15:18

Easter baskets are yet another import of overconsumption from the US. An Easter egg, or a small toy in lieu is all that's given in families I know.

It certainly doesn’t take a genius.

It just takes someone to read what I’m actually posting.

There are plenty of classy working class people. There are plenty of classy people who are on benefits. There are plenty of middle class people who are tacky. There are plenty of millionaires who are tacky and classless (I dare say that the rise of social media and wealthy “influencers” means that there are more wealthy tacky people than poor).

I can’t explain this to you in any more ways because you’re digging your heels in and not reading what is being written, but you read “classy” and immediately went to working class and benefits bias. That says a lot about you.

Easter Baskets pre date the modern existence of the USA 😂
By several 100 years.

Sesma · 18/04/2025 15:20

Is it an Easter version of a Christmas stocking

No it’s not.

You are so snobby.

You are so snobby.

When it comes to plastic tat and audacious displays of gluttony for social media likes?

I absolutely am.

(What I’m not snobby about is social classes and benefit recipients- you should try that).

I claim benefits. Why would I be snobby?

I think they are getting two each. My three year old I would need to ration the chocolate as he would be sick. I will probably eat his! I hadn't even thought of a new outfit to be honest. I am a bit skint at the moment to be fair.

I buy a lot... mainly because I love Easter eggs 😂 and my kids joy is in the finding of them, he's never that bothered about actually eating them. So it's a win win for me 😂 (not my waistline though!)

We've always just done new outfits for church on Easter Sunday since I was tiny so it's sort of become family law here.

Sausagenbacon · 18/04/2025 15:28

Easter Baskets!
Sometimes I'm glad I'm old and don't have to bother with this rubbish.
And why would you want to?

Ah, so you were projecting. That’s ok- it makes sense.

Anyway, enjoy your Easter basket reels and have a happy Easter.

So people who give Easter Baskets are akin to those on Jeremy Kyle. Wow (I know you live that word).

Oh yes. Very much so.

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 15:35

Why does every occasion need to be made into a huge OTT gift giving event filled with unnecessary packaging, boxes, baskets and plastic crap that won’t be used again

I don't get it, it's all so performative

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 15:39

We always had easter baskets - often handed down but they are used for the easter egg hunt.

milleniumstar · 18/04/2025 15:41

We go to church on Easter sunday but not in new outfits - don't see the point as it's not the olden days where you put on your Sunday best & hat.

Make the most of that. My seven year old wouldn't leave any of her chocolate for me.

Zanatdy · 18/04/2025 13:09

I have always just bought one egg, two at a push. No basket, no clothes, no toys.

No clothes - no Easter "Rig Out" ? ( there was a thread on here about ""rig outs" it seems a regional thing but I definitely heard my Dad's side of the family use the phrase )

My DC adults now have some Easter eggs in a reusable bag. When they were little we did an Egg Hunt in the garden with bunny ears on and a felt bag to collect them . They had to earn their chocolates 😁

SociableAtWork · 18/04/2025 15:45

I wouldn’t bother trying to emulate what you’re seeing on social media, it’s just more tat for landfill.

People can have a perfectly nice Easter without Easter decorations, door wreaths, baskets, buckets and everything else the shops encourage us to buy.

Your DC will be just as happy with a couple of eggs and maybe an egg hunt in the garden. We always had new PJs as well, just because it was a nice time of year to have more summery ones!
