Easter Baskets.. what’s realistic

Seen many reels of people making up lovely Easter baskets. Some pretty expensive ones too to be honest. Do you do Easter baskets in you’re house what goes inside them? I think it’s a lovely idea just not sure if it’s a thing me or the Easter bunny want to start in this house 😅to think a couple of Easter eggs is still what the bunny brings most houses?

It’s never the classy sort of people you see doing this, is it?

Actually I see plenty of middle class types do this.

I’m just glad you found a word other than “wow” to use to start a sentence.

Thanks, I know lots of words. Some of them are even big ones.

Sofiewoo · 18/04/2025 14:48

Kids are 4 & 2 and I’ve always done Easter baskets. I always grew up with Easter baskets in the 90s too.
Because they’re young they only get one small £1 eggs and then a few nice little Easter bits, soft toys, books etc

Middle class doesn’t necessarily equal classy. Plenty of classy working class people.

No matter your social class or income, posting an obscene amount of chocolate and plastic tat to show off on social media is tacky.

ChicaWowWow · 18/04/2025 14:51

Pretty low key here too. We're gonna do a egg hunt with some chocolate eggs and chocolate figurines (not a huge amount as my 2nd kid is a baby and doesn't eat chocolate yet) then I got a little sth for craft my 1st wanted for ages (less than a tenner) and I found 2 fun garden toys that neighbours left on the pavement (for free) but that's just luck, I wouldn't have gotten anything else if I didn't bump into that, really.
I just love the egg hunt, personally. It's so much fun. I have the best memories from Easter as a kid. Less pressure and less expensive than Christmas, I much prefer it tbh.

CluelessAboutBiology · 18/04/2025 13:52

I suspect you didn’t mean to post that on this thread

Oh i don't know, that would fit a lot of eggs in.

TrixieFatell · 18/04/2025 14:51

No eater baskets here. They get some eggs, and Easter marshmallows but that's it.

HeraldofAndraste · 18/04/2025 14:52

My little one (3) has an Easter Basket and she’s doing an Egg Hunt with her nursery friends on Sunday morning. DH and I have got her 1 small egg (because I know she’ll get more on Sunday and we don’t want her to have a tonne of chocolate), and I know my parents have got her 1 egg as well. MIL has gone OTT and has bought toys, clothes and 3 eggs etc. when DH and I specifically said just 1 egg to her and nothing else - I don’t want the expectation of presents and chocolate at Easter. When I was a kid, it was a small egg hunt in the garden with a few eggs between my sister and I. That’s it.

iamnotalemon · 18/04/2025 14:56

@VickyEadieofThigh totally agree with you! Some people go mad and then in the next breath moan about the cost of living crisis and they can’t afford x,y,z.

Bournetilly · 18/04/2025 14:57

My 2 have an Easter box (reuse the wooden crate each year). In it they each have an activity book, paint by numbers, stickers, bunny ears (reused each year), note book and a bath bomb.

They then have a basket each which is used for an egg hunt. I’ve got 30 items to hide, 10 of them are mini bags of haribo and the others creme eggs/ malteasers bunny’s etc (nothing expensive).

They then get 2 Easter eggs each (biggest was £3 I think and smallest £1.50 so just the small ones) and a small toy (less than £10).

I’ve not spent a fortune but it’s still nice memories for them and some of the things can be used each year. We have done a few activities and been to see the Easter bunny at the farm.

IVFmumoftwo · 18/04/2025 14:09

No. We are Christian and they just get some Easter eggs. Anything more is just unnecessary.

We are Christian and DC gets loads of eggs 😂 always a new outfit for Easter Sunday. Usually I'd get some little toys and bits but I haven't this year because I'm unorganized and knackered.

PoorUncleBarry · 18/04/2025 14:57

CorbyTrouserPress · 18/04/2025 14:44

😂

I’ve never made an Easter basket in my life and couldn’t give a toss about them. However, I also don’t make judgements on people who do, I find people who do this are those who are just not very classy.

That's quite a shitty remark for a Good Friday afternoon isn't it.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 18/04/2025 15:00

Easter is a bigger celebration for us as it was for my mum growing up but even at that we still dont go crazy! We're catholic so Easter is big religious event for us too. We will be at mass today for Good Friday and Sunday for Easter Sunday.

On Sunday morning the Easter Bunny will have been and brought a medium size egg and small soft toy as well as the egg hunt around the garden.

The kids will be the Easter Bunny for some of our neighbours leaving small eggs and some treats they have made on doorsteps early in the morning.

Their Easter basket from us will have an inexpensive summer outfit (skirt/top) and a medium size egg. They will get an egg and small gift from Granny and Auntie too.

That is true but I think the comment was aimed at those who claim benefits etc.

No, the shitty remark was quiet obviously the poster saying classy people never make Easter baskets.

I think they are getting two each. My three year old I would need to ration the chocolate as he would be sick. I will probably eat his! I hadn't even thought of a new outfit to be honest. I am a bit skint at the moment to be fair.

Aitchemarsey · 18/04/2025 15:03

I have literally never heard of this before today and I've seen it on social media multiple times today....

PandaG · 18/04/2025 15:04

I made Easter baskets with my kids when they were little, but I was a childminder so it was a craft activity with my mindees and my own kids. Make a small basket from woven card, stick or draw on flowers, chicks etc. Put Easter biscuits we had baked and iced inside, and then I'd add a handful of mini eggs, a creme egg or other age appropriate treats and a couple of those fluffy plastic chicks. Small Easter present for my mindees, and a little added extra to the one medium sized egg I bought my own children. We usually did an egg hunt as well, but this would be no more than a small bag of foil covered chocolate eggs each.

Then that’s a massive projection on your part and you’re simply making things up in your head.

It isn't always the low income households that do it but I suppose if your children don't have much you might make big occasions like Easter and Christmas big to make up for it. I wouldn't do it myself but I can see why they do.

Are you English?

Basically every kid I’ve ever known had an Easter basket in the early 90s in Ireland! It was a big deal.

It varies from country to country and the denomination of a church - but Easter Baskets in various forms have been a thing for 100s of years.

Maybe it is a Catholic thing? Although we went to a Catholic church in Northern England and I don't remember it.
