Easter Baskets.. what’s realistic

Seen many reels of people making up lovely Easter baskets. Some pretty expensive ones too to be honest. Do you do Easter baskets in you’re house what goes inside them? I think it’s a lovely idea just not sure if it’s a thing me or the Easter bunny want to start in this house 😅to think a couple of Easter eggs is still what the bunny brings most houses?

No. We are Christian and they just get some Easter eggs. Anything more is just unnecessary.

Createausername1970 · 18/04/2025 14:15

When my DS was little I bought him one egg from the supermarket. He would get others from grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. But we only bought him 1.

No bunny, egg hunts or other toys.

He is 22 now and still gets 1 egg from us.

Hdjdb42 · 18/04/2025 14:17

I've bought little eggs e.g. creme eggs and other types to hide around the house. I've bought one medium egg each as the main prize! The children have been gifted 3 large eggs and a large bag of mini eggs each from family members! They have more than enough. I'm not going to make baskets etc!

RaininSummer · 18/04/2025 14:24

I thought Sunday was egg day anyway. Some of this does sound way over the top.

Out of interest, why are you doing an Easter Egg hunt today?

Maybe this is the only day available they can do one.

Tryingtohelp12 · 18/04/2025 14:27

Small Easter egg and a book in our house x

Raggeo · 18/04/2025 14:27

My kids are 5 and 3. I got them a packet of small chocolate eggs each so we can do an egg hunt. Then they will each get a yoto card and a sticker activity book. I know wider family members will give them other chocolate eggs.

Travellingtime123 · 18/04/2025 14:27

My son (nearly 3) went to an Easter party at his friend’s house this morning where he found a little handful of small chocolate eggs in the egg hunt. He also got given some stickers and an egg painting kit (which they then used as a party activity).

Nursery made some Easter biscuits and an Easter basket/hat. So he’s brought his crafts home.

At home he’ll get some bunny ears (he likes dressing up), a Peter Rabbit book (not specifically Easter themed), and a white chocolate Easter egg.

He definitely doesn’t get a full basket of stuff. I don’t want him to have loads of chocolate and sweets, and a couple of little treats and fun activities is enough.

I think people do just give things in different ways though. I have friends who give summer outfits and garden/beach toys as part of their child’s Easter gifts to mark the beginning of nicer weather. Whereas my son has the same things but at other times (a bit like the posts that appear at Xmas about stocking fillers and Christmas Eve boxes)

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 18/04/2025 14:30

Mine are adults now but we only ever bought them one egg each. They both loved the ones with mugs in the box.
Something to eat and something useful to keep.

ballroompink · 18/04/2025 14:31

They're each getting a larger egg from us and then we always do a hunt for smaller eggs in the garden. Then they get an egg each from grandparents. That's it! Tbf they are 7 and 12 so I can't imagine them caring about baskets, but even when younger we only ever did eggs, no other presents.

An egg, singular. Why does every occasion need to be made into a huge OTT gift giving event filled with unnecessary packaging, boxes, baskets and plastic crap that won’t be used again.

I know I'm in old git territory once again, but I really do roll my eyes at the relentless quest by some parents to spend as much money as possible on every possible occasion. And then complain their kids are burdened with university debt, can't buy property, etc. later.

If you've got spare money - put in in an account for when they're older. They'll be much more grateful for that than far too much chocolate, plastic, etc.

It’s never the classy sort of people you see doing this, is it?

I do an egg hunt with my DD, I got a kit from home bargains that included pre made clues but in the past I've made the clues myself. We did it this morning as her dad has her this weekend.

She got:

4 mini packs of mini eggs
4 cadburys cream eggs
1 milky bar small egg
1 medium blue m&m egg
1 packet on mini m&ms
1 large Gulyan egg
1 large lindt egg with bunny

This amount of choc will last her weeks amd she'll share some with me

Edited

And did she really need all that fat and sugar? Especially if she’s going to get more from her dad. We are not a Puritan household by any means but that just seems so much for one child unless she’s like Charlie Bucket and makes a Wonka Bar last all year!

Wow, how unpleasant

A perfect example of how social media is designed to hypnotise people into spending money on crap that nobody needs. So relieved to read so many people on here not buying into this latest consumerist bollicks.

DS used to make a small Easter basket in nursery with mini eggs in, many years ago.

SpaceBunHun · 18/04/2025 14:41

I mean it.

You obviously care a lot about Easter baskets and really like them.

Sal17690 · 18/04/2025 14:43

I'm in Australia. A typical Easter gift is winter pyjamas / slippers / dressing gown, as we are coming into the cooler weather. I usually do new pyjamas - I'd buy them anyway, but the shops get full of them at this time so it seems a nice Easter tradition. Otherwise, we usually do one medium Cadbury egg and some small hunting chocolate eggs. Sometimes a small gift such as a book.

sakura06 · 18/04/2025 14:44

Mine get a medium sized Easter egg of their choice (usually Cadbury) and a Lindt chocolate bunny. I have done an egg hunt in the past, but just with one bag of small chocolate eggs.

DuckSloth · 18/04/2025 14:44

I'm not doing a basket, the commercialisation has to stop somewhere. We've got the kids 1 egg each from us and they've got others from family and friends (too much really) so there's no way they need more chocolate.

We'll do an egg hunt after church on Sunday and we've a few fun days out planned while we're off work too.

😂

I’ve never made an Easter basket in my life and couldn’t give a toss about them. However, I also don’t make judgements on people who do, I find people who do this are those who are just not very classy.

I’m just glad you found a word other than “wow” to use to start a sentence.
