AIBU to think next door neighbour is being a Petty Patty over parking?

Hi Hivemind! AIBU to think that next door neighbour ( passive aggressive social worker) is being a Petty Patty by knocking on our door last night to complain that recycling and food recycling bins are placed over about 20% of the paved area that she states she owns between the passage/ driveway between our 2 houses. This passageway is an access to our garage and our other neighbour's garage. Long story short..she also complained about not being able to park outside her house yesterday as my partner's car was " taking up 2 car parking spaces" and he ought to park more considerately. FYI my partner moves his car onto my parking space to deter other road users from parking there during the day..so when I get home I can recharge my electric car under the kitchen window..not specifically to annoy Petty Patty next door...although it obviously has, as today she has backed up to within one millimeter of his car despite there being ample spaces on the road to park on..she parks in my ' spot'. She has also removed said bins from in front of partner's car in order to park in front..as I say within 1 mm of his front bumper! These were moved by me as a result of her complaining about where they were left. They are a 3 car household..we own 2..and I am out of the house from 7.30 - 5pm.
Now I am dreading going home as she is still parked there and partner has said he will go and knock on her door and demand she moves it if it's still there when I get home and need to charge my car for tomorrow..
First world problems I know..but is it just me?? What to do next??

It sounds you and your husband are pretty passive aggressive. Feel sorry for your neighbour.

Cakeandusername · 17/04/2025 18:02

You do know the public highway outside your home isn’t your space to park anyone can park there.
If you are unsure re your property boundaries check on land registry.

Jungfraujoch · 17/04/2025 18:05

Public road - people can park where they like, however annoying that is for you!

Bellavida99 · 17/04/2025 18:08

How do you charge your car from kitchen window? You’re not allowed to have cables going across a public pavement as it’s a trip hazard

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/04/2025 18:09

Regardless of your wish to charge easily your partner is being a very bad neighbour taking up two spaces. I'd be annoyed too.

ARichtGoodDram · 17/04/2025 18:11

Tbh the fact that you describe a space on the public road as "my parking space" massively suggests you're the unreasonable one.

If your partner has started parking like a twat to save you a space then it's likely every little thing you do now annoys her, hence pulling you up about your bins.

Once an inconsiderate neighbour gets under your skin everything that you'd usually ignore bothers you in my experience

Great name @IglesiasPiggl !

Put your bins on your own land.
Your partner should not park like a twat.
HTH.

Yep

Great name @IglesiasPiggl !

Why thank you 😀. It comes from a thread where the OP was asking about In the Night Garden, and her phone somehow autocorrected to Iglesias Piggle 😂

Runningoutofpatiencefucksandmoney · 18/04/2025 03:41

The comments didn't disappoint 🤣🤣🤣

YABU OP. Firstly for the thread title alone...petty patty? How old are you? 🤣

Electric car, social worker and 2 parking spaces? Do you wear pearls? Do you clutch them?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 18/04/2025 04:17

Interesting that the OP isn't coming back now that no one is agreeing with her.

Glitchymn1 · 18/04/2025 04:42

“FYI my partner moves his car onto my parking space to deter other road users from parking there during the day..so when I get home I can recharge my electric car under the kitchen window..”

Oh the entitlement, the irony. 😆

Snoken · 18/04/2025 06:18

If you and your partner wants to be that entitled you need to buy your own land to do that on. You are acting like the king and queen of the street, no wonder your neighour has had enough.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/04/2025 06:28

You are the unreasonable one here

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/04/2025 06:29

Popchipsrfab · 17/04/2025 16:00

Ok..well I moved the bins as I understand it needs to be left as access. She has taken 6 months to point out she owns the small piece of land between tbe houses..so I'm not sure why now it's suddenly an issue? No driveway to park on..and no one has ownership of any parking area as it is a public road. It is soon to be permit parking only anyway so in future we will have to pay for the priviledge of parking..or arguing about it.

This is all the more reason not to park in two spaces.

YABU.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/04/2025 06:31

You are also BVU to use the phrase "Petty Patty" FFS.

ChompandaGrazia · 18/04/2025 06:37

You sound like a school bully. Keep your bins on your own property. Park with consideration and if it means you can’t charge your car then that isn’t her problem. I have an electric car but I wouldn’t do if I didn’t have a drive to park on with a proper charger. Draping a cable out of the window and across the pavement is a dick move.

SoMauveMonty · 18/04/2025 06:53

UndermyShoeJoe · 17/04/2025 16:07

While we are here though op. Are you sure in your boro your allowed to have a cable running over a public footpath..

Petty patty here would report you for that just to find out 😉

A household up the road from me did this. An elderly chap tripped over the damn thing.
I understand the push towards EVs, but buying one when you don't have either a driveway so you can charge it off the road, or easy access to a public charging point, is nuts & inconsiderate of your neighbours imo.

iloveeverykindofcat · 18/04/2025 06:54

"Petty Patty"

YABU for cursing me with the knowledge that this phrase exists.

GRex · 18/04/2025 07:03

You sound a bit tricky to have as a neighbour. Bins should not be on shared accessways, it's good that you moved them but don't leave them there again. As for the parking, ask the council to add some charging points on the lampposts to add options. Madness for you all to have so many cars without a single dedicated parking space, but that's the house you've chosen so you have to take on board that you do not own them (and stop calling the spot "mine").
