AIBU to think next door neighbour is being a Petty Patty over parking?

Hi Hivemind! AIBU to think that next door neighbour ( passive aggressive social worker) is being a Petty Patty by knocking on our door last night to complain that recycling and food recycling bins are placed over about 20% of the paved area that she states she owns between the passage/ driveway between our 2 houses. This passageway is an access to our garage and our other neighbour's garage. Long story short..she also complained about not being able to park outside her house yesterday as my partner's car was " taking up 2 car parking spaces" and he ought to park more considerately. FYI my partner moves his car onto my parking space to deter other road users from parking there during the day..so when I get home I can recharge my electric car under the kitchen window..not specifically to annoy Petty Patty next door...although it obviously has, as today she has backed up to within one millimeter of his car despite there being ample spaces on the road to park on..she parks in my ' spot'. She has also removed said bins from in front of partner's car in order to park in front..as I say within 1 mm of his front bumper! These were moved by me as a result of her complaining about where they were left. They are a 3 car household..we own 2..and I am out of the house from 7.30 - 5pm.
Now I am dreading going home as she is still parked there and partner has said he will go and knock on her door and demand she moves it if it's still there when I get home and need to charge my car for tomorrow..
First world problems I know..but is it just me?? What to do next??

What is in front of your garage, if not a driveway?

You’re being downright selfish by getting your partner for reserve a spot for you just so you can charge your car. Tell him to move his. I bet you’re dragging the cable over the pavement and if someone moans about falling over it, they’ll be a “Petty Patty” 🙄 too.

I’ve got an electric car, it’s parked and charged on my driveway. I wouldn’t have even considered one if I had on street parking.

Gymmum82 · 17/04/2025 16:57

I’d be surprised if your LA allows you to charge your vehicle over a public footpath. If I was petty patty I’d report you for that

Mudkipper · 17/04/2025 17:00

I'm on your neighbour's side, your use of the term 'Petty Patty' is so twee, my toes are going to stay curled all day.

1dontunderstand · 17/04/2025 17:00

By the sounds of it, she has brought up the ownership because she is sick of the way you park.

My neighbours out there bins in the road outside their house (multiple neighbours now so it too), and it is a massive bugbear of mine.

Is it possible to get the space allocated as a car charge point? I don't know if that is a thing

MummaMummaMumma · 17/04/2025 17:03

You can't "demand" she moves so you can charge your car 🤭 you do not own the road.
As you have been so rude she should not move her car out of principle.

Whaleandsnail6 · 17/04/2025 17:06

"First world problems I know..but is it just me?? What to do next??"

Work out a way of using your vehicle that does not rely on having to park in a space on a public road that does not belong to you. You have no right to demand that parking space.

And if you really are keeping your bins on your neighbours land (land registry should help determine who owns the land) find somewhere else to keep your bins as well

flyoverstate · 17/04/2025 17:07

Thinking about this I’m surprised that you haven’t been reported to the council if you’re running a charging cable out to car over the pavement.
I would be extra nice to your neighbors if you are doing this not doing things to aggravate them.

Breadcat24 · 17/04/2025 17:08

no it sounds like you are being inconsiderate with your bins and parking

PhilippaGeorgiou · 17/04/2025 17:08

I really, really want to see the diagram anyway (even though the answer is obvious). And I mean this sincerely - it has just occured to me, but I think you may be the couple across the road!!!! In which case, her name isn't Patty and she's not a social worker...

KittyMcKitty · 17/04/2025 17:09

A) what’s the relevance of her being a social worker?
B) is the charging cable draped over the pavement? If so is this allowed as it surely must be very dangerous especially to blind / partially sighted people and wheelchair users.
C) why don’t you just park / charge in your garage?

CamillaMacauley · 17/04/2025 17:11

Why don’t you get a charger put in your garage and park in there?

LlynTegid · 17/04/2025 17:13

If either you or the neighbours have an SUV then you are the unreasonable one. Otherwise charging should be in the garage.

Mentioning the neighbour being a social worker is only relevant to me as someone who actually has a genuine need for a car.

Popchipsrfab · 17/04/2025 16:00

Ok..well I moved the bins as I understand it needs to be left as access. She has taken 6 months to point out she owns the small piece of land between tbe houses..so I'm not sure why now it's suddenly an issue? No driveway to park on..and no one has ownership of any parking area as it is a public road. It is soon to be permit parking only anyway so in future we will have to pay for the priviledge of parking..or arguing about it.

Is his and her car in your driveway or is it considered the road?

That will give the OP the opportunity to get the thread removed as "being too outing" ( not going her way) 🙄

IglesiasPiggl · 17/04/2025 17:23

I can't help but picture this as like the scene in Amandaland, where she blocks the neighbour in daily so that she can run the car charger out of her window and across the street. Are you actually Amanda, OP? 😂

SporadicMincePieMuncher · 17/04/2025 17:24

If you need to "reserve" space outside of your house so that you can charge your car through the kitchen window (Surely this isn't your permanent/long term solution - those chargers aren't suitable for regular use!), surely your partner parks in the space that you will need, not over two. If he has to move his car further away when you arrive home, that's just one of the consequences of living somewhere where you don't have your own drive. None of you own the space you fancy in front of your house on the road.

AmIthatSpringy · 17/04/2025 17:25

Petty Patty???

WTF

YABU for that alone

Goldengirl123 · 17/04/2025 17:33

You are absolutely in the wrong. Jeep your bins on your own land. You also aren’t entitled to park on the public highway outside your house.

Isouf · 17/04/2025 17:38

Is this a reverse? 🤣

HollyBerryz · 17/04/2025 17:41

Are you trailing a cable across the public footpath to charge your car? Patty will be the least of your worries if someone gets injured.

JacquesHarlow · 17/04/2025 17:46

I think this has to be a wind-up @Popchipsrfab Surely?

Cakeandusername · 17/04/2025 17:46

How are you charging car without a drive? If you are dangling a cable over pavement or road then I’d be wanting to avoid annoying neighbours or they’ll report you to council. Cables illegally across are dangerous.

Pinepeak2434 · 17/04/2025 17:47

She shouldn’t have to address these issues with you because you should be more considerate, I would not want my neighbours bins on my land, and I would think that your husband was selfish for taking up two car spaces.

mrsm43s · 17/04/2025 17:54

You don't have a "spot", your DH is unreasonable taking up two spaces, and you are an inconsiderate neighbour. If you want a parking spot of your own, you need to may the extra rent or mortgage for a property with a designated parking spot.

You are the one entirely in the wrong here. Please change your behaviour and stop selfishly inconveniencing others.
