To switch to Raw milk?

eggybreadyy · 17/04/2025 14:24

What are your thoughts on Raw milk?

With the current hot topic of ultra-processed food, and trying to reduce this. Mainly for healthy reasons. I am considering switching to raw milk.
Upon googling lots of advice why not to do this, especially for children.
I have seen that it can have lots of health benefits if sourced from a reputable raw milk farmer.

Are you serious? Just no. Pasteurized milk has plenty of health benefits. Do not risk killing yourself.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/04/2025 14:26

I would be worried about bacteria tbh. E. Coli, brucellosis etc.
Pasteurisation was a huge leap forward for public health. I'm not sure it counts as ultra processing by any definition I've seen.

ayonoosh · 17/04/2025 14:27

I think anyone doing it to get on the hippy tiktok earth raw organic mother trend, at the risk of killing themselves, is quite frankly a blithering idiot.

JohnAmendAll · 17/04/2025 14:28

If you want to die of TB, switch.
If you don't, don't.

Sahara123 · 17/04/2025 14:29

I’ve had it in France where a man in a van refilled your bottles , it was SO delicious! My husband was horrified, I suppose I wouldn’t drink it regularly unfortunately.

Pomegranatemum · 17/04/2025 14:29

I heard a colorectal surgeon talk about this on a podcast- his view was absolutely don’t do this!

Yeah, crack on and see why milk is pasteurised!

MrsApplepants · 17/04/2025 14:29

Not a great idea. All good to reduce UPFs but non pasteurized milk is going a bit too far and bordering on bonkers.

Snorlaxo · 17/04/2025 14:30

Pasteurisation isn’t processing food - it’s literally
boiling milk to a certain temp to kill off the bacteria that’s killed countless people in history.

tryingtobesogood · 17/04/2025 14:31

Oh good lord

tonyhawks23 · 17/04/2025 14:31

Just give up cow milk instead there's no need for it then you don't have this worry.

Quite.

CanadianInLondon23 · 17/04/2025 14:32

I think there is some misinformation out there about what pasteurisation is. Pasteuisation is just heating milk to a certain temperature (I believe 100C) to kill any organisms so it is not ultraprocessed food. In theory you could do this yourself at home.

Fluffyhoglets · 17/04/2025 14:33

Have you/your children had the TB vaccine?
As raw milk may contain TB.*
If you want to consume more beneficial bacteria then take a good probiotic.
Not unpasteurised milk.
*other disease causing pathogens may be included

SlagPit · 17/04/2025 14:33

This whole processed = bad mindset leads to some really stupid conclusions.

Octavia64 · 17/04/2025 14:34

Absolutely fucking not.

are you out of your mind?

(pretty sure it was made illegal in the U.K. at some point in the 80s because we used to get it and then the farmer stopped being allowed to sell it to us)

Jc2001 · 17/04/2025 14:35

I've tried raw milk once or twice but it didn't taste that much different to me. Not sure it's worth the risk, inconvenience or cost of switching from pasteurised

Loveduppenguin · 17/04/2025 14:36

I’m from Ireland and my cousins had a farm and they drank (and still do) straight from their tank, I did too when I stayed there. BUT they know their cattle, knew what tests, vaccinations they had etc they knew the tank, machinery was cleaned etc so they trusted that.

faerietales · 17/04/2025 14:36

They really do walk among us.

Octavia64 · 17/04/2025 14:37

Ok, completely banned in Scotland and only on sale in specific situations elsewhere in the U.K.

comes with a health warning advisory.

Cow's milk is for baby cows. Leave it for them if you're bothered about drinking stuff from an animal's mammaries.

Definitely not illegal! Fen Farm Dairy which is well known does it. And unpasteurised cheese!

toomuchfaff · 17/04/2025 14:38

"ultra processed foods" - boiled

"for health reasons" - just don't drink milk?

eggybreadyy · 17/04/2025 14:39

Why are half the people on here so condescending and pretentious? 😂

Just to point out the TB vaccine does not protect you from pulmonary TB.
