With the current media interest around the poor actress whose teeth have been mocked in a SNL skit, it got me thinking about my own situation.

I have had braces a couple of times now and have straight and healthy teeth. However when I was younger I had a very large gap in my front teeth, and very crowded bottom teeth.
I got a couple of negative comments, I remember when we were 17 a friend told me that 'I'd be so pretty if only I fixed my teeth!'.

Fortunately they didn't put most men off and one even said they liked my gap, for the record I think gaps are great, but mine was enormous and also my teeth tilted inwards.

I used to have a large bump in my nose, and an ex told me he liked my 'big nose'. I'd never said that, he just took it upon himself. I got another couple of comments about my nose.

Have since had the bump straightened and nobody ever comments on it.

Had another ex tell me I had flabby arms, even though I was a size 6-8 and exercised which was upsetting.

I never get any negative comments on my looks anymore. Now that I'm older with more self confidence, if anyone dared to, they'd regret it.
However I've just been thinking about how cruel people can be, and the fact is they're usually unhappy in themselves. Has anyone else had their appearance mocked?

Yes. Used to get told I've gone red a lot which I hated.

Also sexist comments about my boobs. Prob constant till I was 40*ish. Then occasionally. I've now finally had a reduction at 52 and best thing I ever did

coxesorangepippin · 16/04/2025 14:42

Someone once said I had 'those weird starey eyes'

🤔

WhereIsMyJumper · 16/04/2025 14:43

Mine were always weight related - I’m a healthy weight but I’d be told I was too skinny a lot.
I used to go out with a guy who got picked on for his teeth but I actually found the way he looked really appealing and sexy!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/04/2025 14:44

I’ve been called a fat bitch in the street on more than one occasion. My weight obviously isn’t news to me but people seem to be driven to comment.
Where I used to live there was a lady I didn’t know who used to approach me in the shopping centre and tell me I looked miserable. I was deeply unhappy at the time so yes, I was miserable but she seemed to need to police that loudly and publicly

I feel for Aimee Lou Wood, it’s like the odd nasty comment mushroomed to a grand scale.

wizzywig · 16/04/2025 14:45

Op, I'm Asian and being on the receiving end of bitchy comments made by people who aren't supermodels nor geniuses is par for the course.

temperedolive · 16/04/2025 14:45

I'm ginger.

So of course.

andtheworldrollson · 16/04/2025 14:46

boob yes - quite nasty really

Youwantlove40 · 16/04/2025 14:46

Pomegranatecarnage · 16/04/2025 14:46

Yes, loads. Often from boyfriends when I was younger-trying to make me feel I was lucky to have them I guess!

Ashipcalleddignity · 16/04/2025 14:48

Growing up with red hair and glasses, yep pretty much constantly. My DM never missed a chance to tell me I was fat, my ears stuck out ect. My ex DH told me he was glad our children didn't look like me and that they didn't have my huge nose.i think my personal favourite was the nurse who looked at my newborn son and exclaimed " Ahhhh isn't he gorgeous!! You must be so glad he hasn't got your red hair !"

JaffavsCookie · 16/04/2025 14:48

Yes, lots from random men in the street ( though not for many years now) and occasionally from the kids I teach ( some teenagers can be pretty savage).

restbite · 16/04/2025 14:49

my nose is too fat (my own brother called me n*** nose once) what a charmer
funny shaped nostrils
chubby tummy🙄

DiscoDragon · 16/04/2025 14:49

I'm really short and have had a lifetime of people pointing it out to me, which is very helpful as I always forget.

I've been called short-ass, midget, half-pint, Smurfette, and once a poisonous dwarf!

Spanador · 16/04/2025 14:50

I was relentlessly bullied in school because my forehead is slightly bigger than average. I've still got a fringe even now in my 30s to try and hide it. I would love to change my hairstyle but I feel like all people will notice when they look at me is my forehead. I'm sure they probably wouldn't but it's hard to forget the taunting

TheBunnyLover · 16/04/2025 14:50

I don't remember a time past being 7 years old when they didn't.
I was fat from that age, binge eating due to being unhappy at home and at school so bullied for being fat and scruffy.
Anorexic from 15-it then turned to bullied for being skinny.
Then it was for dressing alternative, this didn't bother me as it were my choice.
And now as a fully fledged 40 something, for being quite a quirky dresser, 'mutton dressed as lamb', my make-up, the fact that if I want to wear a short skirt I damn well will....

Cyclebabble · 16/04/2025 14:52

Asian so yes I am afraid quite frequently. I once had a drunken manager who asked me if it was true that Asian women's vaginas go from side to side rather than up and down.. I was speachless. He apologised the day after (big smile, hey I had a lot to drink... Idiot.

WhereIsMyJumper · 16/04/2025 14:52

temperedolive · 16/04/2025 14:45

I'm ginger.

So of course.

I love ginger hair 😍

On the whole I tend to not find conventionally good looking people attractive. More drawn to charisma and someone who looks a bit different. I think I would find you all sexy 😘

MeAndMyCatCharlotte · 16/04/2025 14:53

I had chronic childhood eczema that was commented a lot when I was very young. The strange thing is that I can remember being chased around the school playground at about age 5/6 by a boy who was teasing me about it but it didn't bother me at all. Weirdly, he was sort of being friendly about it and playing this game with me.

It still flares up sometimes. A friend of an ex-boyfriend once approached me in my 20's and said 'I would date you if it weren't for your skin.' I was so stunned, I just didn't reply. He wasn't someone I would have wanted to date and I should have told him that!

DailySnail · 16/04/2025 14:55

I was always made fun of for having freckles. It's very annoying to me that now those same people are tattooing freckles on their faces. But I'm very grateful for other young girls who will grow up with freckles!

PeachPumpkin · 16/04/2025 14:57

My hair. I grew up with people making fun of it most days. People have also made fun of my legs, my height and my skin.

Singleaftermarriage · 16/04/2025 14:58

I'm 46 with a mixed race dad (black caribbean/white) and ginger white mum. In the 80s and 90s this was a pretty unusual combination and I'm also very tall. So my entire childhood was comments about curly hair but also pale and I also towered over everyone. Then as an adult also constant comments. Sometimes nice. Sometimes not so nice. Don't think I go a month without a comment about my appearance.

SparklyBrickViper · 16/04/2025 14:59

Constantly!

Mole on my face, so grew a fringe.
Weight
Nose

Clothes - mainly the “cool kids” as most certainly was not.

There’s always something for someone to “jest” about.

MesmerisingMuon · 16/04/2025 15:00

I am very tall and used to have short hair. This guy in a club queue stared at me, nudged his mate and said "do you think it's male or female?".

I retaliated with "well given your moobs are at least a C cup and in need of a bra I can see why you'd be confused".

His mate absolutely pissed himself laughing at my comment and this guy looked very sheepish.

I don't really have time for people who judge me on things that I was born with or choose. Not my sort of people.

FastFood · 16/04/2025 15:00

As a teenager, I had (gentle) mockeries about my weight (I was very skinny, like many teenagers are), about my flat chest, and about my big eyes.
A friend of mine would always say "stop looking at me with your fried fish eyes", it became a sort of joke.
None of that ever bothered me.

As an adult, not much, but it's always focused on my small stature, still doesn't bother me at all though.

ThePoshUns · 16/04/2025 15:02

I was out one evening, dressed up. There was a group of men walking behind me making fun of my ‘massive calves’. This was about 30’years ago. I’ve never worn a knee length dress or skirt since.
