To report this as benefit fraud

A relative is claiming benefits, can’t work due to health but is one of those who is always complaining about something wrong with her but is always able to do the things she wants to do. Can holiday abroad, always down the gym, etc. When she was working she was always making complaints against employers- one of life’s victims.

She sold a property a couple of years ago and has squirrelled about £40k away through investments. I think has got her mother to do this for her.

I’m so fed up of seeing people like her take the piss. I 100% support a welfare system and it really pisses me off to see it abused like this. And meanwhile we are working our arses off and not able to afford the foreign travel and gym memberships.

I’m so tempted to report her secret savings to DWP.

I never said she was too unwell to work.

Yes you did in your OP.

BlessedBeTheGroot · 15/04/2025 19:03

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 19:00

I’ve not said it’s about not being unwell enough.
I don’t think she’s unwell enough to not work- in response to the person who said something like “feel bad for her because she’s too unwell to work”. I don’t feel bad for her as she has a good lifestyle and is able. I’d probably feel less inclined to take notice of the issues if she was actually living a challenging life.
I know most are genuine, but that doesn’t take away from those that are not.

But if the DWP have assessed her as too unwell to work, then your opinion does not come into to it. Not at all.

This is the second thread today about someone having a massive amount of savings while on benefits. How? I am disabled and get UC+lwcra and it's still just about enough to get by and not starve, I can only dream of savings. What am I missing?😂

It's not savings it's the proceeds of a house sale. So presumably she has either downsized or gone from being a homeowner to renting etc

Hastentoadd · 15/04/2025 19:03

pointythings · 15/04/2025 19:00

No, you just have to be limited of conscience and prepared to live with yourself if you are wrong.

All suspicion of fraud ( not just benefits ) should be reported and no one should be made to feel guilty about that

You are just trying to guilt trip

I’m 5ft 11, also not bitter. I’m quite anti fraud though.

The sarcasm is a nice touch, but truly, your pettiness is deeply unattractive and reads as incredibly toxic. Do you have nothing better to worry about?

OutsiderOfTheClique · 15/04/2025 19:04

Perhaps if focus on how you van improve your own lofe, you would keep your nose out of her business. Just because she is claiming benefits the benefits are not solely for wheelchair users and those who have visible disabilities. There are a myriad of disabilities that affect a person's life which can interfere in holding down a job for example.

Your going by what you THINK you know. Trouble makers like you can make legit benefit claimants even more stressed.

Why are you seeking validation on MN if you are so sure that dobbing in this person is the right thing to do? It seeks like you need a little army behind you to day "yanbu" so you can feel justified on doing something so underhand and without all the facts.

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 19:05

CleverButScatty · 15/04/2025 19:02

Honestly, if you and your DP are both well enough to work hard and improve your situations you will be betterment off than her in many ways.

You don't suggest anywhere that her health problem isn't genuine. If it is serious enough to qualify for disability benefits it must impact her life significantly. Contrary to popular belief, it's actually quite hard to qualify for.

I don’t know if she qualifies for pip. She’s always been one of those people who has a lot of moans but no diagnosis. But she always presents as very able to do everything that I do, she’s never struggled to keep up.

So are you saying it’s not worth doing then?
Are you saying suspicion of fraud should be ignored?

If OP knows she has £40k stashed away then yes, report.
But OP is making this about her relative going to the gym and having a life. That is what is getting people's backs up.

Almost18 · 15/04/2025 19:06

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 18:47

I don’t think she’s too unwell to work.

But that’s another can of worms.

Of course now you change the story! Luckily, it's not up to you do decide if she is too unwell to work.

Why don't you give up your job if it's so great?

Rachelthieves · 15/04/2025 19:06

Op you are absolutely pathetic in your outlook !
The capital limit of £16k for benefits is outrageously low if you are disabled and unlikely to ever get a job again.

How long does £16k last if you have no income other than say PIP. For the record I am Centre right Politically, but believe the disabled and old should not be punished due to the economic stupidity of Government. Disabled benefits including ESA, Support Group , Carers Allowance should in no cases be subject to the pathetic low level of £16K capital limits. Disabled persons should be allowed to sell a inherited house and still receive ESA and other benefits regarded in effect as ' Capital Gains' or income taxable.

There is enough money to support the disabled and old, if Governments were not inept in their spending and in economic incompetence regarding policies such as chasing away Foreign Rich People !

ClareClareClareClare · 15/04/2025 19:07

pointythings · 15/04/2025 18:58

Have a link to the government's own website to tell you that you are wrong: https://www.gov.uk/benefit-fraud#:~:text=Your%20benefit%20may%20be%20stopped,an%20'interview%20under%20caution'.

‘May’ is the key word there.

If an investigation discovers that there is no fraud occurring then there is no harm done

Everyone should be reporting suspect fraudulent behaviour don’t you agree?

No it’s the attitude of posters like you who clearly clearly believe that there’s no harm stirring up a load of trouble without knowing the facts AND it being nothing to do with them. And that people claiming benefits including some disability ones shouldn’t be at the gym or in coffee shops AND then denies being ableist.

The harm done is colossal. Why can’t you see that?

The reason is because as per usual this is someone who is jealous because someone has something she doesn't. It's funny how this people are never up for giving up work and living on benefits themselves. She's just jealous because this person has been on holiday and goes to the gym which is just pathetic.

Anothercoat · 15/04/2025 19:11

It’s not about fraud. It’s about being a cunt.

The person the OP is referring to has 40k in savings so she has plenty to live on if benefits are temporarily stopped during an investigation,

None of your business, keep your opinions on others financial situation to yourself as can almost guarantee you don’t have all the accurate facts.

yes, those of us who have raised issues are angry because we are also fraudsters. Nothing to do with the backtracking of comments regarding pip or the op determining whether the ‘relative’ is able to work or not.

Are you not anti fraud?

I am anti fraud. Very much so. I am on UC and have to abide by the rules.

The hidden savings things IS fraud. Going to the gym and on holiday is not
