To report this as benefit fraud

A relative is claiming benefits, can’t work due to health but is one of those who is always complaining about something wrong with her but is always able to do the things she wants to do. Can holiday abroad, always down the gym, etc. When she was working she was always making complaints against employers- one of life’s victims.

She sold a property a couple of years ago and has squirrelled about £40k away through investments. I think has got her mother to do this for her.

I’m so fed up of seeing people like her take the piss. I 100% support a welfare system and it really pisses me off to see it abused like this. And meanwhile we are working our arses off and not able to afford the foreign travel and gym memberships.

I’m so tempted to report her secret savings to DWP.

The fraud issue is claiming UC whilst having hidden savings.
Whether she claims or is eligible to claim PIP is irrelevant. I don’t know if she does. Having savings wouldn’t affect the at claim so it doesn’t matter. You’ve totally misinterpreted this thread. Quite possibly on purpose.

This seems too have gone over people's head. Or they are choosing to ignore it. It's two separate issues

Montea · 16/04/2025 14:13

ClareClareClareClare · 16/04/2025 13:42

I know she’s on UC and I know 100% about the hidden savings.
I don’t know if she’s on any sort of disability payment, and it’s irrelevant as it’s not the issue at hand. You are making it the issue, but whether she does or doesn’t get pip makes no difference to the initial concern that she is claiming UC fraudulently.

Whether I would report it, and I’m sure others would agree, depends on who the 40k savings legally belongs to. Do you know if she legally owns it? Has it been invested by her or by someone else. Is it just ear marked for her, where did it come from.
you’ve left a lot of questions unanswered that would sway wether or not we personally would report it

I’m not sure if all these people who are getting cross assuming I’m accusing her of claiming disability fraudulently are being purposefully misleading or just haven’t read or understood the thread.

We've understood only too well. If this was about fraud why did you mention a holiday and gym membership as they have no baring on fraud. Why did you mention that you couldn't afford these things? You made it extremely clear that this is about jealousy and that is why the majority of posters are telling you to mind your own business. Disabled people are allowed to go to the gym and to go on holiday. H

Mentioned it because she’s doing those activities on the tax payers money which she is claiming illegally when half the taxpayers can’t afford that lifestyle. Which pisses people off.

You are going to be accused of jealousy by the masses now

OtterInABlueTie · 16/04/2025 16:18

Legally if the savings were in her name and she had full access to them then yes it may be she is acting unlawfully? If this is hypothetical money her parents might have given her after they've died or for something else in the future (to buy a house or car) but she doesn't have access to them and they aren't in her name, then no fraud. So maybe YANBU there.

YABVVVU though to assume she isn't genuinely disabled or sick because she goes to the gym or on holiday occasionally . Perhaps because she can't be given an inheritance from her parents they are gifting her the holiday themselves? She won't be able to fund a.decent holiday abroad out of UC and PIP. Not unless she really is gaming the system and working cash in hand or something . But you seem @ClareClareClareClare quite vague about what she is actually claiming so I'm not sure you know as much as you think you do . I could be wrong but n careful of making assumptions. If you 100% know someone is defrauding the system then by all means report. I don't think you can just assume she isn't sick or disabled though . She will also have had to provide copious evidence of her health needs to be given PIP or the LWCR of UC. You don't get that given to you without A considerable medical paper trail.

Just curious how much money are you assuming this person is getting from benefits?

If she was claiming legally (as in she was not hiding savings) then this would also be the case too.
So why mention it?

MummytoE · 16/04/2025 16:40

Do they not teach reading comprehension at schools anymore??

But even if she was claiming legally she would still be able to afford to do those things so what was the point in mentioning it?? You just sound very bitter and jealous getting her done for benefit fraud won’t change the fact that you can’t go on holiday or go to the gym.

valentinka31 · 15/04/2025 17:26

Well I guess the money from property that was given to another person isn't relevant, even though in reality it's a kind of insurance for her.

Going to the gym and going on holiday is not not allowed on benefits. Going to the gym is a health activity that will, if you think about it, possibly reduce her cost to the NHS for treatment for being unhealthy.

I guess she's had some kind of assessment re: health, she will have had to have a continuous fit note from her GP and also fit for work assessments at regular intervals. What's wrong with her in terms of the listed ailment(s)?

You do sound very angry. I can understand why, but at the same time I don't think I'd advocate getting in the middle of it. I think I'd leave it be. Many people take the mick around us, not just with benefits, but in how they deal with other people, scam people, rob people, are mean, etc. Life is full of bad behaviour.

I'd concentrate on making your own life as good as possible and try not to get wound up by others.

Going to a gym and/or a holiday is allowed whilst on any benefits. 🙄

Well, presumably she's using the money for more than just those things and if she isn't entitled to it that is all wrong so makes no sense for you to mention those things.

As you say people (like you) get angry at people using benefits for those things, especially when you can't afford them. Fraud has nothing to do with it.

She said not not allowed. As in it is allowed!

Serpentstooth · 16/04/2025 17:42

No, OP, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that it's a principle in this country to provide evidence in support of claims of malfeasance and other frauds and, as you have none, it might be more sensible to restrain your natural vehemence until you are more certain of your 'facts'. Otherwise it simply sounds like petty vengeance on your part which I'm sure you wouldn't want.

Just report her @ClareClareClareClare . Give the information you believe to be true and let the fraud department of DWP know.

Taxpayers shouldn't fund her life when she can use her in money, as she should legally do. I wouldn't bother engaging with people who suggest fraud should be ignored. Makes me wonder what they are hiding themselves. 🤔

Yeah, it's been a real eye opener how many people are seemingly ok with this situation. Mind boggling actually. It's stealing, what ever way you slice it...
