Would you cancel the party?

Posting on here for traffic as I need quick answers please haha!
DD has her 4th birthday party today, she woke up at 5 which is super early for her especially after having attended another party yesterday and then been in the sun all afternoon and gone to bed late. She had a cup of milk about 620 and then immediately said her tummy hurt. Did a poo which was normal then threw up ten mins later, literally just milk. Said she felt better and went back to sleep.

So, my question is would you cancel her birthday party? Yes - yabu, no - yanbu

If she's sick again then yes I'll have to, but if she's not then what do I do.
I don't think it's a bug, we've not been anywhere where she could catch it other than soft play yesterday for a party and surely wouldn't be that quick.

I’d say no unless she throws up again. If it’s a bug you should find out pretty quickly!

Queeneel · 13/04/2025 07:03

What happened between 5-6.20?

Queeneel · 13/04/2025 07:04

I think you need to wait instil she wakes to see how she is feeling.

when I have a sickness bug, I throw up, have a short period of respite and feeling ok and then the nausea starts to build again

Nothing she was just watching bluey and chilling, and playing, no feeling sick or anything until she drank the coffee

Coffee?

Scooby2024 · 13/04/2025 07:05

Personally I would see if she is sick again. My little boy is sick occasionally when he's woken early and is still really tired. I would hold off until after breakfast and see if she's sick again. Fingers crossed she fine OP and has the best party x

I wouldn’t cancel

Coffee?

Oh sorry, it's a babycino but we call it coffee haha. Just milk!!

If she just threw up milk and nothing else happens before the party then I’d go ahead. Small kids can randomly throw up. If though she feels unwell or is sick again then cancel.

Shades of motherland here 😅

cancel if she throws up again.

My children never threw up unless they had a stomach bug. In your situation, I'd assume a touch of heatstroke, not a bug but I'd still cancel, sorry.

Thank you, I feel better now others are thinking the same as me. I was a sicky kid, always travel sick or tired sick or anything

I'd not cancel for this, but if she's sick again then I would.

TariffPenguin · 13/04/2025 07:12

Coffee?

TariffPenguin · 13/04/2025 07:13

Don't call it coffee. That's weird to normalise it for her.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/04/2025 07:13

I think she's probably a bit dehydrated from being outside yesterday. Give her plenty of juice and water. Don't cancel unless she throws up again.

I also wondered hear stroke but they'd also usually be hot and sweaty wouldn't they? Any headache op?

Queeneel · 13/04/2025 07:16

I think you need to wait at least an hour before doing anything
of it’s a bug, nausea will start to kick in soon and there’ll be another vomit

MargaretThursday · 13/04/2025 07:16

Ds used to throw up when routine was disrupted.
Dd2 used to throw up with excitement.

I always waited to see with those two, and most of the time it wasn't a bug.

If dd1 threw up ever, she was ill.

My daughter's like this (inherited from her dad), while I have a cast iron stomach so it was a completely foreign concept fo me at first!

Completely agree with the PPs and wait and see whether she's sick again. I hope the party goes ahead!

It's because we say we're going for coffee and she gets a babycino so she sometimes calls it coffee.

That's a tough one, I really wouldn't want to go to a party where the host had been throwing up that morning though!

Perhaps go ahead but message each person to let them know the situation so they can make an informed decision.

No hasn't complained of anything, she was outside from 2-630 playing but with hat on and suncream. Probably didn't drink enough water but had two bottles of juice in that time. After running round at soft play for two hours where she also drank less than usual.

This is how I feel, I have developed an odd phobia of sick bugs and avoid sick kids where possible. I was thinking of doing this but dh said that would be a bit overkill. I messaged my best friend who's coming with her son and is a teacher so sees sick kids on the daily and she's come back with the same advice as others, if sick or feeling sick after waking then cancel, if not then fine.

Parties at 10 and I've got to get there for 9 to set up so all quite close to the wire annoyingly 🙃
