Would you cancel the party?

Posting on here for traffic as I need quick answers please haha!
DD has her 4th birthday party today, she woke up at 5 which is super early for her especially after having attended another party yesterday and then been in the sun all afternoon and gone to bed late. She had a cup of milk about 620 and then immediately said her tummy hurt. Did a poo which was normal then threw up ten mins later, literally just milk. Said she felt better and went back to sleep.

So, my question is would you cancel her birthday party? Yes - yabu, no - yanbu

If she's sick again then yes I'll have to, but if she's not then what do I do.
I don't think it's a bug, we've not been anywhere where she could catch it other than soft play yesterday for a party and surely wouldn't be that quick.

I’d cancel and I wouldn’t want to attend a party if someone had been sick ! That being said I have emetophobia hope your little one wakes up better dx

Hmm765 · 13/04/2025 07:26

Please cancel.

A child came to my daughters birthday party “after only throwing up once” and passed a bug on to a load of other kids

2025willbemytime · 13/04/2025 07:31

Juice after vomiting is stupid. Likely to make her sick again.

Calling warm milk coffee is bonkers. You might as well call weetabix porridge.

I hope it's just the effects of too much sun and not enough water and that the party goes well.

Coffee?

What's wrong with coffee?

Littlemisscapable · 13/04/2025 07:33

It will be fine. Don't cancel

Surespray · 13/04/2025 07:33

Ooh that is tight timing! I forgot little kids have such early parties!

still think it’s probably tired sick

Don't call it coffee. That's weird to normalise it for her.

For heaven's sake!

It's like done in a velvetiser so is frothy with chocolate dust so does look like a cappuccino tbf 😂

So?

JoanIsNotAwful · 13/04/2025 07:35

Flopsy145 · 13/04/2025 07:23

This is how I feel, I have developed an odd phobia of sick bugs and avoid sick kids where possible. I was thinking of doing this but dh said that would be a bit overkill. I messaged my best friend who's coming with her son and is a teacher so sees sick kids on the daily and she's come back with the same advice as others, if sick or feeling sick after waking then cancel, if not then fine.

Parties at 10 and I've got to get there for 9 to set up so all quite close to the wire annoyingly 🙃

I think you need to let everyone know, you just don't know who might have an immunosuppressed relative/huge unmissable work event/wedding to go to in a couple of days etc, or just really hate sickness, so people can decide themselves whether they want to risk it.

2025willbemytime · 13/04/2025 07:35

So?

That's just why we sometimes call it coffee. When we're in a cafe I do say "do you want a babycino" though. Although that's not really the main issue here 😂

My kids love this too.😀

Just don't see the point of teaching her and using the wrong word. Smacks of wanting her to seem grown up.

Some people really can suck the fun out of absolutely anything.

mummysmagicmedicine · 13/04/2025 07:38

Why is everyone moaning about what you call a baby chino?? Call it what you like. See if she’s sick again I would. Coming from a mum terrified of puke. It doesn’t really sound like a bug x

ThejoyofNC · 13/04/2025 07:39

Oh and I wouldn't cancel just yet, she could just be a bit fried if she was in the sun yesterday. If she's gone back to bed, see how she is when she gets up again.

Don't be daft coffee isn't crack

JoyousEagle · 13/04/2025 07:40

At the very least you should tell the people who are coming. I’d tell them anyway, but particularly right now, people might be about to go away and might want to avoid a sickness bug on holiday.

Also it’s really not the case that if they just throw up once it’s not a bug. We’ve had a few occasions where one of my DC have thrown up once and then been totally fine, but the other child has come down with it the next day, followed by DH a day after that (I tend to dodge them thankfully!).

outofofficeagain · 13/04/2025 07:41

DS used to throw up in overtired/too much excitement.

I’d say if she wakes up fine she’s fine. However I might be tempted to let people know in case of any particular issues.

You will know when she wakes up if it’s a bug.

All the people clutching their pearls over calling babycino coffee and calling OP stupid for giving juice, have a word with yourself. These are total non issues and you just look like you’re looking for a scrap on a Sunday morning.

Fillybustering · 13/04/2025 07:42

Op ignore the other posters mumsnet these days seems like a place where lonely sad people go to post controversial things for attention. It's exhausting and starting to ruin the joy of MN!

Did you give her that when she woke up early? If so that might be why she was sick. Frothy (bubbly) milk with chocolate early in the morning when she’s tired isn’t going to go down well.

blueluce85 · 13/04/2025 07:42

You say you haven't been anywhere for a bug yet you mention softplay....that's a hotbed for sick bugs.

Cancel the party and rearrange

Gulliver88 · 13/04/2025 07:42

I would send a message to all parents and give them the choice
Most will attend.
Hope she has a lovely party

You must be super fun at doll’s tea parties.

Flopsy145 · 13/04/2025 07:44

So DD is now up, woke up super happy, ate her toast and drank water and said she feels fine. So will give it until 9 and if still fine will go ahead🤞🏻
