Would you cancel the party?

Posting on here for traffic as I need quick answers please haha!
DD has her 4th birthday party today, she woke up at 5 which is super early for her especially after having attended another party yesterday and then been in the sun all afternoon and gone to bed late. She had a cup of milk about 620 and then immediately said her tummy hurt. Did a poo which was normal then threw up ten mins later, literally just milk. Said she felt better and went back to sleep.

So, my question is would you cancel her birthday party? Yes - yabu, no - yanbu

If she's sick again then yes I'll have to, but if she's not then what do I do.
I don't think it's a bug, we've not been anywhere where she could catch it other than soft play yesterday for a party and surely wouldn't be that quick.

I’d at least tell the parents then they can make their own minds up! Your dd will prob tell everyone she was sick anyway ! X

Don't call it coffee. That's weird to normalise it for her.

😂

Just don't see the point of teaching her and using the wrong word. Smacks of wanting her to seem grown up.

This smaks of being a busybody.
I rememebr wanting to be very grown up when I was 5. You need to chill.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/04/2025 08:01

I wouldn’t tell the parents- at that point you may as well have cancelled.
kids get sick, every time kids mix there’s a risk of sickness, nits and god knows what else. Your child was most likely overhyped and excited and regurgitated the milk.

fiorentina · 13/04/2025 08:01

I used to find sometimes kids were sick with excitement for events or birthdays etc and then totally fine. Hopefully it’s this, however if sick again I’d cancel I’m afraid as it’s more likely a bug.

EveryFlavourJellyBeans · 13/04/2025 08:03

A lot of fun sponges on this thread. About the coffee I mean.

I think if she hasn't been sick again by 9am then you're good to go.

Have a day off 🙄

TariffPenguin · 13/04/2025 08:09

She'll be going off to school telling her teacher that her mum lets her drink coffee and it'll all sound very strange. Just tell her it's milk for God sake stop trying to make her grow up.

ACR7 · 13/04/2025 08:10

Why are so many focussed on the babychino? It’s a none issue. Have a day off!

Bananafofana · 13/04/2025 08:12

Soft play is an absolute Petri dish of viruses and (eg) Norovirus can incubate and come on in just 12 hours, though 24 hours is more common.

I’d want to know as another parent if the birthday girl had been sick as your child’s one-off vomit might be an a&e visit and hooked up to a drip for my dc (speaking from experience!). Hope it all goes well and she has a great time but I would consider letting people know.

Overthebow · 13/04/2025 08:13

Why does everyone care what the OP calls a babycino? Does it even matter?

oviraptor21 · 13/04/2025 07:09

My children never threw up unless they had a stomach bug. In your situation, I'd assume a touch of heatstroke, not a bug but I'd still cancel, sorry.

My kid is the opposite: any sign of a runny nose and he is usually sick.

So what if she does. Teachers aren’t idiots I’m sure they could work it out. Far from growing up, pretending stuff to be something else is the very essence of childhood play and imagination.

Ghosttofu99 · 13/04/2025 08:17

Sounds like heatstroke/dehydration to me too. Try and give some regular sips of water regardless of what it is.

neverbeenskiing · 13/04/2025 08:20

I would be really annoyed if I took my child to a party and found out the birthday child had thrown up that morning. A child can absolutely have a bug and vomit once, then nothing for hours then it starts up again. We've had that in this house plenty of times. If you're not going to cancel you should at least inform parents before the party so they can decide for themselves.

groovylady · 13/04/2025 08:24

Soft play?
It's a bug!

Thistimearound · 13/04/2025 08:24

If it were my first child I’d cancel the party. He’s not sick unless he’s ill.

If it were my second, it wouldn’t cross my mind to cancel. She is sick pretty often and it’s rarely a bug, I was the same as a child - just prone to it.

MolluscMonday · 13/04/2025 08:35

I’d want to know as a guest tbh and I probably wouldn’t come. I don’t think it’s right to potentially and knowingly expose people like that without giving them the info.

withgraceinmyheart · 13/04/2025 08:36

If she’s keeping food down this soon it’s absolutely not a bug. Enjoy the party and stress no more! If she tells people, you can just say ‘oh yes bit too much running around in the heat yesterday but luckily it wasn’t a bug. Phew!’

Coconutter24 · 13/04/2025 08:37

A bug can show symptoms 12-48 hours after exposure and a soft play is full of kids and germs.

2025willbemytime · 13/04/2025 07:31

Juice after vomiting is stupid. Likely to make her sick again.

Calling warm milk coffee is bonkers. You might as well call weetabix porridge.

I hope it's just the effects of too much sun and not enough water and that the party goes well.

Who pissed on your cornflakes this morning?

Newgirls · 13/04/2025 08:38

Could be excitement

if the kids are mostly outside I wouldn’t cancel

Glad she’s ok. Sounds like a random thing to me- the babycino just hitting her tummy weird and that’s it. Hope she has a good party
