To think the correct way to cut a sandwich is diagonally?

That's all - silly question really. But am I being unreasonable to think sandwiches are nicer when they're cut diagonally?

YABU: Rectangles are superior
YANBU: Of course triangles are better

Cut them any way you fancy.

HelenWheels · 12/04/2025 06:22

my dm always does them square
dh introduced me to triangles

Peripop · 12/04/2025 06:23

No, sometimes they taste better rectangular

Orchidflower1 · 12/04/2025 06:31

Totally depends what you’re having in them.

steff13 · 12/04/2025 06:36

You get more sandwich if you cut diagonally. That's just science.

Deerrobin · 12/04/2025 06:36

Depends on the filling. Cheese, chicken etc triangles, tuna (or crisp) rectangles.

ThePoshUns · 12/04/2025 06:38

Yes better top / bottom crust ratio when cut diagonally. If horizontal you get one half with all of the dry bottom crust.

Cut 'em vertically then!

GaspingGekko · 12/04/2025 06:39

Only one crust corner per sandwich when in triangles, therefore triangles are better.

HelenWheels · 12/04/2025 06:42

exactly, triangles have less crust, or they seem to!

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 12/04/2025 06:46

Rectangles are more ‘earthy’ and have their place. if I was making a bacon sandwich I would never cut diagonally. Would kill the whole vibe.

MementoMountain · 12/04/2025 06:47

And the chips fall out of your chip butty if you cut it the wrong way.

Surely a chip butty calls for the fold method? 😁

Changeissmall · 12/04/2025 06:53

Most people don’t fill a sandwich evenly so a triangle has four corners of empty bread. Plus I like crusts the best. YABU.

Didntask · 12/04/2025 06:55

Depends on when you're eating them.
Before midday - rectangles
After midday - triangles.

LillyPJ · 12/04/2025 06:57

Neither are 'better'. A rectangle isn't better or worse than a triangle. They are just different. Mind you, a circular sandwich would just be silly, so I guess a circle could be called worse.

Retronight25 · 12/04/2025 06:58

Everyone knows triangle sandwiches are posh.

TranceNation · 12/04/2025 06:59

Sandwiches: triangles
Cheese on toast: rectangles

How many triangles have four corners?

It does? I can't imagine what fillings would make rectangles better, do you have any examples?

Cut 'em vertically then!

I am embarrassed to say that it has never occurred to me that I can do this! Honestly!

Cut them any way you fancy.

Not so simple. There's a reason I'm asking.

Diagonal is the best
Tastes better

Ifailed · 12/04/2025 07:17

No cutting if you use rolls

Tisfortired · 12/04/2025 07:29

My dad always said diagonal was pretentious so he didn’t allow it.

I cut them diagonal if eating at home and rectangle if wrapping for a packed lunch.
